The 16 Confirmed Skills

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 2:40 pm

Combat:
Smithing - Heavy Armor - Block - TwoHanded - OneHanded - Archery

Magic
Illusion - Conjuration - Destruction - Restoration - Alteration - Enchanting

Stealth:
Light Armor - Sneak - ? - ? - Speechcraft - Alchemy

So, we are left with two unconfirmed skills in the stealth tree. Quite a surprise to me.

Stealth skills in previous games were Acrobatics, Hand to Hand, Mercantile, Security and Short Blade. We know that Acrobatics and Hand to Hand are out, and I don't think they will create another skill just for daggers, which leaves us with Mercantile and Security.
However, when compared to the other skills, both options seem quite lacking. Mercantile is basically just a branch of Speechcraft, and Security's only function is to open locked chests and doors, which can be easily accomplished with Alteration spells (and that skill is infinitely more useful). So, either they come up with better uses for Mercantile and Security, or introduce some new skills.

Any thoughts?

If you slow down the trailer you see light armor at the end for a second. and obviously it is in cuz there is heavy armor. light armor is under stealth and lockpicking has been confirmed. There you go add them

Edit :Totally didn't see you already had light armor my bad

I think if mercantile was removed we would have heard it by now..

So mercantile and security.

Obviously light armor, and the next i would assume is lockpicking.

Acrobatics and Athletics were pointless skills anyway

I've seen a few threads about climbing things, I'm not sure this is a rumor or just complete speculation on nothing in particular, but if you can climb, mightn't that be one?

Archery in Warrior makes sense, but Light Armor in stealth doesn't (Though I don't doubt that it is), just basing this off the gameplay styles. Since to level up Light Armor, one can assume you need to be hit in it, yes? That's the main reason I always thought there'd only be one Armor Skill.

I think Security will be in.

Stealth must have a combat related skill. Magic has Destruction. Why wouldn't Stealth? I call shortblade. You heard here first folks!

I think Mercantile has been merged with Speechcraft.

I agree. If the base speed is that if the demo character and it wasn't just the heavy armor weighing him down, there ought to be some way to make a more agile character and incorporate dodging.

I wanted to facepalm when I saw that heavy and light armor are still separate skills. They streamline the weapon skills into 1H and 2H with perks for specialization, but they don't combine the armor skills? And can someone explain to me why a pure stealth character would need armor of any type? The only reason I can think of is for backup when they engage in combat.

Anyway, I'm guessing mercantile will have a bigger impact on the game, considering the revamped economy system and various crafting systems, activities, and services you can do. And I don't really see mercantile as a branch of speechcraft - being charismatic doesn't automatically make you an expert on trade prices.

Security could also be expanded - maybe they brought back probes for disarming traps, and maybe now you can lock/trap doors to get away from enemies. Maybe there will be a chance of your house getting robbed if you don't lock your doors.

Uhm no they werent, being able to incrase your run speed and jump height is one of the core mechanics of being thief-like character.

I LOVE how they finally realised that using archery doesn't require stealth!!!!
Thanks Beth for moving to combat genre! Now I can level up my archery just as fast and my other COMBAT skills! :tes:

@Hoon Bitter much? Let it go.

Security and Mercantile seem to be the two. Why doesn't Beth just confirm the damn list already?

Unlikely since all skill increases count towards your leveling and those have been quite passive. I know jumping is tecnicly not passive, but still.
Security might be one of the skills though.

OK EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION I FOUND IT
i am not savvy with computers but i found a skill in the trailer that is out of focus here is the video on youtube it is the footage from today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic6dKnv3WdU
Now a little before 4:15 They are looking at the inventory and zooming in on the nirnroot. Then the camera goes out and on the screen behind the male announcer's left shoulder a skill appears because they just entered the skills menu. It is there for about a two seconds. It says its level is 34 but i don't know how to magnify an image in a video. After the two seconds the male announcer covers it up with his shoulder and the skills menu immediatly moves right.. get to work people lets find out what it is.

There is like 3 skills not shown in the video this could confirm one of the missing two

I merely wish to enlighten you, we lost short blade in oblivion and we're not getting it back (at least not until TES: VI at the soonest), so let our tears dry and look forward to the glorious dawn of a new adventure.

They said that daggers will be considered one handed weapons, but the perks for stealth assassinations would be under the stealth skill (I think they meant the sneak skill).

Security is one of them for sure. Though it may be called lock picking now...

Todd already mentioned that the lock picking mini game is back. And he also emphasized that he doesn't like to call it mini games.

The second is probably light armor as there is already heavy armor.
