The Conglomerate of Carolina

THE BEGINNING:

After the quiet darkness that took hold of the continent for many (unspecified) years, a number of Vaults coincidentally simultaneously opened their doors and attempted to inhabit the shards of the Old World. These Vaults were Vault 71 and Vault 94, located close to the beaches of North Carolina, as well as Vault 25 and Vault 44, located in the heartland of South Carolina. While Vault 94 developed within their years of isolation from the world a vast number of machines that would help them restore the barren wastes into farming conditions using the radiation and the sea, the Vaults of South Carolina were stuck smack in the middle of the wasteland, where they had to live a life of true survival. Though not at the same speed, both communities grew larger and more knowledgeable about their own expertise. About a decade after their initial settlement, the community of North Carolina finally made contact with other survivors of the great war, coming in the form of a massive queue of prospectors, merchants and otherwise travelers wandering the wastes, gathering knowledge, resources and, of course, weapons. They were absolutely amazed by the sight of fields of wheat and barley, stretching out as far as the eye can see, as well as the peaceful community, feeding off of the ocean and their own products. They immediately joined their community, where they contributed as much as they obtained, and were certainly a great addition to them. The community of South Carolina had much less luck, as their first encounter with the outside world came in the form of bandits and outlaws, seeking destruction and loot. They, as hardened as they were by the wastes, waged war against each other for many years, until' finally a woman named Clarice Jefferson lead the last assault against the unknown union of criminals, forcing them to submission and eventually assimilating them to their community. Pleased by the outcome, the community of South Carolina sought to gain independence, and started a conquest in which they built an empire sizing on the borders of pre-war South Carolina, which was as much as they were able to hold. They assimilated a number of small bands of warriors and other minor tribes, gaining an almost insignificant number of people, yet they trained them to be the perfect warriors, surviving and conquering the wastes, aptly naming their newly formed empire: "South Carolinian Empire", or "SCE". North Carolina did the same, only that they did not use force, but persuasion and diplomacy, as they added many small communities to their cause, regaining their borders as it was before the war, as well as militarizing slowly, in order to use force when they are threatened, mainly used to fend off the beasts of the wastes. They named themselves " The Carolinian Confederation", or "CC". For 50 years, both communities grew stronger, yet were still unaware of each other's existence as an independent faction, until' one fateful day.

THE WAR:

In the year of 2241, scouts from the SCE spotted the thriving community of the CC, and saw a perfect opportunity to gain more land for their empire as well as obtaining knowledge and resources that were otherwise poorly maintained or nonexistent in their own territory. Under the leadership of the old and experienced Clarice Jefferson, who declared herself empress of the South Carolinian Empire with absolutely no dispute, the war-hungry army of South Carolina marched north, seeking blood and resources. The CC, however, were very much aware of the invasion, and under the wisdom and leadership of Master Overseer Christopher "Badlands" Ross, they quickly prepared for war, storing their supplies safely as well as constructing defensive forts and holdouts. The war waged for 10 years, and the losses were tremendous: While the CC had significantly more people than the SCE, considering they were more thriving in terms of economy and agriculture, the warriors of the SCE were terrifyingly strong and skilled. Approximately for every Imperial Warrior that fell, 10 Union Soldiers fell. The balance of powers constantly shifted, as one faction conquered the other's territory, lost it, reclaimed and lost it again. It went on for an excruciating and exhausting decade, until' one day, in the year of 2251, a crippling blow was dealt to both factions, as both of their leaders were killed by each other, exactly at the same time. Both factions agreed to call a truce until' the problem was resolved.

THE UNITING:

In that same year, an ex-soldier wandered into the no-man's land between the two factions of the SCE and the CC. His name was Adrian Valerius, a former Legionnaire in Caesar's Legion, traveling to the east coast, where he hoped he would find peace. Instead of peace, he could only find death, war and everything in between. He the climbed on the highest rock he could find, and started preaching on what he went through, what's happening with the rest of the world, and how disappointed he is in this life. As he caught the attention of thousands of troops, he managed to gain their trust, respect, and ultimately, their crown. Both the CC, and the SCE offered Adrian a place as their ruler, but he refused both offers, and claimed that he would only rule a unified country, where its people are fair, strong and willing to change. After a brief hesitation between the representatives of the two warring factions, they finally agreed to form a peace treaty with each other. Adrian immediately cut their discussion, and repeated that he would only rule a unified country. Afterwards, they realized what must be done. In that fateful year of 2251, two factions united: the SCE and the CC were no more, and together they formed the "Conglomerate of Carolina", led by a council consisting of 10 representatives from across the state, and the 11th member being the Prime Councillor - Adrian Valerius, who probably was equivalent to a president in modern day terms. The Conglomerate lead the ideals of freedom, trading and agricultural education. While it focused on it's economy, developing trading and agriculture even further, they also had a strong, dependent army they could rely on in case of war. They did not seek to spread geographically, as they wanted to completely rebuild and settle the land, forming a massive empire both in means of territory and economy. Their advance was astounding.

THE CONGLOMERATE IN 2281:

In the time of Fallout: New Vegas, the Conglomerate was receiving reports from scouts it sent all across the states, in order to get a better picture of the situation: Whether or not they should prepare their military for action, or continue with their routine economic flourish. When they heard about the war between the New Californian Republic and Caesar's Legion, they could help but suspect that such massive wars described by their scouts could be happening all around them, without their knowing. After a brief discussion in the council, it was decided that the Conglomerate will arm itself and prepare to set out for the liberation of Virginia, Georgia, Kentucky and Tennessee.
