The console PC war

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:28 am

I marked I don't care or whatever because I don't, I never play TES games on computer not because my computer wouldn't be able to handle Skyrim but just because I don't find computer gaming fun, sure modding seems AMAZING but I don't think it is wrong either but I do get annoyed at how it was the first posts up there asking about what they want to mod or stuff on the subject like that, if I ever got a computer that could run Skyrim *thinking it will be 10x harder to run than Oblivion) or would somehow start loven PC gaming that I would totally mod it, but as of now I just have no interest to. I like to play the games they way they were made from the beginning not what some none Beth dev wants to be put in it no matter how good their stuff is,i might afterwords but not before I at least beat the game once or twice

I don't mod the few TES games I have on computer. I don't mind them, but some mods are... odd...

Man this poll makes console folk look bad. Then I voted and saw the results. Its just the OP. Moding is great with todays devs that over-anolyze the market and give us stuff like level scaling thats relatively easy to fix. Though I'll probably get the PC version I hope the console version gets some form of basic tool kits and some servers for approved alterations.

I think there is such a hostility between the two becuase the PCers just mod everything
in fact some of the first articles that open up are asking what mods you want..WTF
the game comes out in the year and you already wanna mod it...i do have respect for you but i also dont like the fact that its all you seam to care about

I honestly disagree with everything you just said. The tension doesn't come from PC players wanting to mod everything, it comes from everybody throwing their weight around about it for no reason.

I can shamelessly say that PC games (in general) are better than console games, for many reasons. It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it, just as you are entitled to yours. But it's a bit silly to condemn an action that is completely allowed, and even SUPPORTED by the game developers, just because we take pride in it.

What do you care what "we" care? Surely you must have more important things going on in your life.

One of the things that keep game rating and playability after some time are mods.
I think there should be more modders overall, nothing wrong with that.

Modding isn't wrong at all I mean thats part of the TES PC experience.

But yea thats why console doesn't like or whatever at PC people cause while console is stuck with vanilla/glitches/etc PC can just mod in more armor or content as they please. But console players just have to deal with it.

If modding is wrong, then I suppose not playing as a lawful good knight in oblivion is also wrong. Most of the quests were clearly targeted at that, as well as the promotional material. Sure, they provide methods to be different, but they also provide modding structures, and that's wrong too.

How the optional ability to change how you play in a game all about playing how you want is *wrong* I will never understand.

Modding is what makes beth games still sell in the long run. I still see people purchasing morrowind and oblivion for the pc (most stores still stock them both) just to play with mods installed. Even Bethesda themselves have said that modding is a great thing and has kept the games going longer than they would otherwise!

(and the ability to mod has nothing to do with the [minor] hostility between pc and console tes gamers.)

I see nothing wrong witha constant stream of what is basically DLC/ Expansion packs and Bug fixes from the modding community. If anything I think it should be encouraged.

In the place of a console you would have a PC! Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the Morn! Treacherous as the Seas! Stronger than the foundations of the Earth! All shall mod me and despair!

Galadriel ftw

Anyway yeah, pointless thread; no arguments and provocative statements = pretty flammatory threads. At this point every post is an 'inb4block'.

I don't as I feel like it is impure, but I don't have an ethical problem with it.

You know. This war between console and PC is the dumbest thing I ever heard of.

What the hell is wrong with people these days? They come up with the dumbest things to make war about.
Why not just let everyone decide which computer they prefer.

I myself am a console gamer. But I also played on the PC and I don't hate consoles or PC's.

This war probably started with serious dumbasses who wanted their computer to be the best. So they came on the internet telling how their computer is the best and BAM! There was this stupid childish war going on about nothing.

Seriously I don't get what's wrong with people complaining about what's better. PC or CONSOLES? Why just not pick the one you prefer and live on?

IMO This is the dumbest war I have ever seen. It makes no sense.

If anything consoles only greatly benefit from PC gaming and mods. PC gaming on the other hand also benefits from consoles, money in the industry keeps pushing the industry forward and makes competition. Just as long as that pushing doesn't monotonise all the games coming out.

a highly prasied game developer had this to say about the future of gaming in relation to PCs, MMo, and console:
http://kotaku.com/5675559/the-future-of-pc-gaming-according-to-the-lead-creator-of-bioshock

I think that's a good place for a head to be at.

I am a console player but after a while I did by Oblivion for my PC to play some mods. they change things around a bit and make the game different. although I would not put them on at the start, they are a great option and are part of the appeal of ES games now.

I don't have a problem with it. It's none of my business how other people chose to play their games. Who knows, assuming that i buy the pc version, i might even give it a try.

I do think it's sad if someone isn't even willing to give vanilla Skyrim a chance though.

First of all,

Or, to put it short and simple, console/PC wars have nothing to do with PC users modding the game. Like all arguments, it is because people are stupid and/or jerks.

this man speak the truth.

As for mods, mods = customization. Betheda's games are perfect games for me, because i can use mods to change things i don't like. If i couldn't mod Oblivion, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, i wouldn't be playing them anymore. Oblivion's level scaling was stupid to put it bluntly, so very Broken Steel broke Fallout 3 utterly, if i didn't have mods to undo those ...uh, "decisions" i would not have played them nearly as much as i have.

I've no doubt Skyrim will have some gameplay mechanic i'll not agree with, and thus it would be nice to know it can be changed. Not to mention truckload bugs, most of which will not be resolved with official patches. But moddability of Bethesda's games makes both of those less of an issue than with unmoddable games.

I think whoever asked this thread to be locked is right. the OP tonyabdo started it, made the 'intro comment' and never again cared to comment anything anymore. Someone genuinely concerned about such 'issues' as raised by the OP would care to comment some of the different valid points shown here, but apparently he just abandoned it or is 'out sick', so the thread appears to have no point at all (if it ever had).

Not to mention (as someone said) the title leads to an idea of confrontation, which clearly is NOT shared by most posts here.

I agree with this, enough has been said in this thread and to save the moderators having to "baby sit" it I am just going to close it and take it off our "watch list".
