PC: The Constant Need to Restart

Post » Fri Oct 23, 2015 1:13 am

No, I'm not referring to restart-itis, although I do suffer from that as well. The problem I'm having lies in the fact that I experience what so many other players do: choppy NPC dialogue which randomly cuts out.

The only solution I've ever found which seems to do any good is temporary, and it involves restarting the PC. Obviously this is an undesirable requirement for every session, so I'm wondering... what exactly *happens* when the computer is restarted that causes Skyrim to start functioning correctly, and is there a way to accomplish this without actually restarting the operating system?

I'm taking a wild guess and assuming that Skyrim takes advantage of anything it's already loaded into RAM from previous sessions, and that flushing this out during a restart is what makes it need to do it all over again?

The only dialog problem I've had is the king fu dialog caused by the 1.9 patch lip sync bug. I've never experienced what you are describing. Restarting would clear RAM, but it would also reload the game in the event something was not loaded properly.

A couple of years ago Arthmoor mentioned that he hadn't yet figured out why this happened. The last I heard, neither he nor anybody else had discovered a fix for this.
