The "oh crap" moments

Post » Sun Aug 03, 2014 6:45 pm

....You know, when it's clear beyond a shadow of a doubt that you're gonna have to reload /biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

One of mine was when I was dragging unconscious Sokolov away from the greenhouse, and for some reason I decided to jump towards
a chain and climb down, not realizing that it would effectively throw Sokolov off.

So I'm hanging on the chain, watching the good doctor's body sail through the air, land on the nearby roof, and then (thank you, ragdoll
physics!) kind of begin a slow descent to the ground.

So I jump after him, juuuuust miss him, as he goes like a Slinky down several roofs in slo-mo, and I kind of cringe each time he lands on a new roof,
but he's still alive somehow, so I'm hoping *maybe* he'll be OK....until finally falls off the final roof and OH GREAT there's this big ol' blood stain spreading out,
so.... Yeah.

Reload!!

Well not really in the criteria you specified, but I said out loud "Oh [censored]" when Daud murdered the empress, due to how brutal and badass it was.

I had a psychic guard moment where despite flawless use of stealth and Bend Time 2 a guard caught in the cellar before I could knock out lady Boyle, and mass slaughter ensues. I figured since I was reloading I should vent the bloodlust first. /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I've had many "Oh crap" moments - usually the result of a failed Blink where I land amongst all guards in a not-very-stealthy way.

Lol, I know the original post is old, but I've never seen it before, and it's written so that I had to laugh.

I don't know if it qualifies, but I had one derp moment I can remember well. After finishing all my tasks in the Golden Cat mission, I let Emily out of her room and follow her, but I want to take a shortcut and instead of running down the stairs jump a level. That's when I somehow accidentally land BETWEEN the two flights of stairs and fall all the way down to the ground floor (and die, naturally). I just laughed loud at that. Corvo, Lord Protector, supernatural assassin, gets past dozens of guards unscathed, fights his way through the plague-infested streets... just to break his neck falling down the stairs.

Falls are certainly the number one cause of my death in the game.

I heard Dishonored 2's plot involves Corvo getting revenge on gravity...

During the abbey mission. Having carried Curnow's unconscious body up from the kennels, I carefully lay him down so I could peek through the door; when I turned to pick him up, he was slowly sliding down the steps. The "oh crap!" Moment came when he gently touched the bottom step and "failed: protect Curnow!" flashed up.

Oh, that would have to be when I decided to throw Campbells body out of a window, I picked him up, climbed out onto a ledge and then let his body fly to the ground, my grin quickly turned to a look of pure horror when I realized I had just thrown Curnow out the window, not Campbell. Whoops, sorry.

Mine usually involved Blink fails, where it looked like I'd land where I wanted but resulted in plummeting to my death. I also had Curnow die after sliding down the steps, though I didn't realise it until I got back to the Hound Pits and Callista said, "My uncle's dead, isn't he?"
Derp... Fortunately I had a save just before that.

Summoning a horde of rats to in front of some guards, and then realising I somehow had Blink selected instead.

The first time I did the Sokolov mission I just missed the elevator bit totally, carried him all the way to the basemant, and tried to jump in the water and swim him across. Ooops.

Then when I'd figured out how you're supposed to get him out of the house, I missed the little ramp that takes you down to the waiting Samuel, and went all the way around again, past the hostages and everything.

I felt I deserved high chaos on that level for all the killing I'd been forced to do /facepalm.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I don't have many "oh crap" moments. My main problem is I have "[censored] this!" moments where I just give up non-lethal nice guy and vent some bloodlust, stealthy and open combat.

Hah, I had one recently, though it really turned into more of a 'Thank the gaming god!' moment. I was playing a 'never die or reload' playthrough and (foolishly) I decided that a duel with Daud was too badass to pass up. So, we do our thing. He freezes time and throws out way too many punchlines, I dispatch his minions, mostly through sleep darts, partially through bullets and stab wounds. Eventually, I have him beat, but I've used up every health elixir I carried into the fight and have slivers of health left. Before my relief in the fight being over could fade, three more assassins appear, one of whom promptly freezes me with his badass powers. The other two approach me menacingly, ready to take the one or two blows that would finish the job.

But then he sends them away! Luckily, I was on low chaos, which I assume is what caused this. Curiously however, every other time I fought Daud in low chaos, this never happened. The backup just never came in those games. I think the game just wanted to intimidate me. Has my Xbox become sentient? I'll look into this...

LOL!!!

They're learning from your play. Next time you play, there will be 40 of them waiting for you!
