So the Creation Engine has integrated nVidia technology ?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:34 pm

I read that here: https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/the-graphics-technology-of-fallout-4/2015/11/04/45

Now that explains a lot about the System Requirements of the game, and solves the riddle of why the game requires a considerably more powerful AMD gpu to run than a nVidia card.

Oh why dear Bethesda Games Studios do you get yourself in to a fight between hardware vendors and don't you stay neutral ? :sadvaultboy:

Its not nice getting punished with worse frame rates in the game you made because I chose a graphics card from a different manufacturer.

And bringing in mind the tactics of unwanted competition that have taken place in this hardware war, it makes it even worse.

So what is it going to be now ? 24x tesselation in some invisible mesh that cripples performance on AMD graphics cards and can be turned off with zero impact on image quality but a huge one on frame rate ?

I have AMD cpu and gpu and I wouldn't like it if you decided to add AMD's similar kind of stuff like TressFX either. Neutrality is the best and more just option in this case IMO.

I'm disappointed.

If I had to guess its because nvidia was willing to work with Beth, and amd wasn't? Wasn't that the exact situation with witcher?

I don't relly know what's going on between software developers and hardware manufacturers. Only thing I know is that at least IMO it would be best if no hardware vendor was mixed in the development of a software piece, and that it would be best if the software was as hardware agnostic as possible.

If AMD had done that, then it wouldn't end up good for nVidia owners. I just want the best for both the people who have nVidia stuff, and the people who have AMD stuff.

Quoting from the site which seems to hate gameworks the most http://wccftech.com/fallout-4-nvidia-gameworks

"According to what we’re being told Fallout 4 will be a much closer affair to GTA V, a fairly well optimized title across the board with collaborative efforts from both Nvidia and AMD. It’s also said that the game will void of any vendor specific badging, so we’re not likely to see the game being paraded by Bethesda as having any GameWorks features."

Also PS4 & XBO are using the AMD chipset (sure not 100% comparable to PC, but still a important factor).

I have both graphic cards in similar machines with similar specs. It will be interesting.

isnt much as Bethesda as Nvidia, Look most of the game cumming out this year and alot of them have Nvidia only tech on their graphics, aka Witcher 3 hair work.

Is the new Marketing strategy Nvidia is using to position as number one for gaming.

+1

It also explains the stupid minimum requirements of a GTX550TI/HD 7870. I don't know....and i'm not going to buy an Nvidia just for Fallout 4.

Strange since both consoles use AMD GPU's

It explains why console screenshots looked average while official PC screenshots are amazing. Older AMD systems will need to disable those stuff probably. Well, at least I hope they can be disabled to keep the game playable until I get a new PC.

Tessilation is not an Nvidia only tech

This.

The article says nothing eluding to the assumptions made by OP.

Not specifically, but the phrase "we got together with our friends at Nvidia" was a bit worrying.

I didn't read wccftech.

I read the article on Bethesda.net, that I included a link to it at my first post.

Well, according to that same article, Nvidia worked with Bethesda to develop the water in Morrowind, and Nvidia does have the best tessellation technology on the market.

Exactly. But it is well established that Nvidia GPUs handle tessellation better than AMD cards.

However, every single article on this, from Bethesda's own to outside sources, say they optimized the experience for all hardware, so I doubt AMD users will have any issues.

Depends which leaked console screenshots you look at. Some of them had the pipboy light on (and looked terrible because of that) another famous one was taken as the LOD hadn't loaded yet miliseconds after it would have looked perfectly fine.

Most of the console screenshots looked ok but yes the PC video leaks looked best (screenshots varied).

Eyeroll. Reminds me of the Hairworks conspiracy nonsense.

Why would they ask them for help? HMMMMM.

I'm not taking sides either way (though I have a GTX570), but I think it's good that Beth works with a hardware developer, specifically video cards, in order to optimize their game. Certainly waaaay better than them just stabbing in the dark without any input.

If they've had a good working relationship with Nvidia since Morrowind, then it would be silly to not take advantage of that.

Look, getting help from Nvidia doesn't amount to them being handed Nvidia exclusive software for them to use in thier engine that has an unfortunate downside of not running at all on AMD.

No. What happened is a couple of programmers from Nvidia assited Beth's programmers in properly intigrating DX11 features into the Creation Engine. None of these features are exclusive to Nvidia cards and if any of them are done better by Nvidia than AMD, well then it's just the way it goes. It's no different than any other dev cycle since DX11 was released.

Well, OP, I'm disappointed with another Bethesda business decision. Luckily yours is not a problem for me just like mine may not be for you. ^^ The bottom line: Beth goes where their best interests lies.

Sigh, Nvidia's PhysX physics engine works on AMD hardware but by using the CPU.

Nvidia's GameWorks libraries like HairWorks and WaveWorks works on AMD video cards on PC you can turn them off if they are causing you optimization problems.

Tessellation works on AMD hardware, Intel hardware and Nvidia hardware.

HBAO+ works on both AMD hardware and Nvidia hardware.

APEX Clothing and APEX Destruction works on both AMD hardware and Nvidia hardware.

TXAA is one of the features that is exclusive to Nvidia hardware.

The 7870 graphic card is basically the same graphics card that is in the Xbox one. No game has yet ever used the full potential of the Xbox One. So that being said, the minimum requirements are more in line with the max settings (normal high settings) and the recommended settings are more like ultra settings that PC's can dish out that consoles cannot.

This is the misinformation most take when nividia does this. The truth is its a partnership nividia enters into with said developer on monetary gain. They do not do it out of the kindness of their hearts. Ubisoft is their biggest customer, hence all the free ubisoft games with nividia GPU purchase. They made the same deal with CDPR. Apparently developers, well in CDPR's case, don't like it when its brought up. Hence why the moderators over there were suspending people left and right anytime their deal was brought up on the forums.

Lets also not forget just how bad GWL screwed up Batman( NOTE: It was not entirely GWL fault but it did play a part ) where nividia actually stepped in to try and help WB fix the game. Again, not done out of the kindness of their heart. GTA V is the only game I know of that has not been hindered in some fashion by GWL.

GTA V handled it right, but understand that any developer who sign's in with nividia on this plague has to have an extra work ethic in regards to AMD. Because as its been well documented AMD simply gets locked out once a dev signs on to use GWL. So while all or most of the features that reside in GWL can be used on AMD gpu's they cannot be used well and anything AMD can do they have to do so blindly.

There is also false information some people keep giving out.

Nvidia's PhysX physics engine works on AMD CPU's. If you want more effects you need a Nvidia GPU.

It's no surprise Nvidia's software is more advanced than AMD's software.

Nvidia also has their video cards for rendering the entire universe in astronomy labs and most scientists use Nvidia GPu's.

Nvidia back in 2013 when I read it spends $1 billion dollars (USD) a year on Research and Development (R&D) of graphics rendering capabilities, some of that money Nvidia earns through donations.

Do you think AMD can keep up with Nvidia's $1 billion dollar (USD) yearly Research and Development (R&D)?

Lets hope beth tooks notes on how to optimise a game from konmai/Nvidia as MGS5 was amazingly well optimised.
