The Creation Kit

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 4:23 pm

I, for one, am a little sick of waiting for the Creation Kit. The amount of bugs left unfixed by this patch (on PC obviously) is just insane, and I can't wait to get my hands on some of the work of the MANY talented modders who will take Skyrim from being a good game (which it is, flaws and all) to being one of the best games ever made.

I am, however, quite fearful that we still won't be seeing the CK anytime soon. The total lack of any news, and Bethesda's favoritism of fixing console problems over PC problems make me very nervous we won't see it for a long time to come. I also have been thinking that they may be purposefully holding the CK back until after they get at least a little bit of DLC out the door, simply so that people will buy their DLC as opposed to downloading freely distributed content.

Anyway, I just wanted to get people's opinions.

Hopefully soon. The PC community do fantastic work not only in bringing extra features to the game but also cleaning up the game and finding issues and solving them and its that latter as to why IMO it should be released ASAP. Could make developers jobs hell of a lot easier fixing bugs if they had the whole PC community on board.

I'm speaking as a 360 player also but I believe would be worth releasing now for the above reason so things can get sorted out quicker.

The world ends in 2012, so I voted for 2013 in the offshot that I somehow evolve into a new type of human and survive the foretold apocalypse next year.

I really don't think that it is a matter of DLC conspiracy. They have already stated that they are planning DLC to be larger than most of what they have released before. Oblivion's DLC was small enough to seem like free mods but Fallout 3 and New Vegas had several mods that were too large for any part time modding group to put out on any worth while time table. As long has Bethesda continues to hold themselves to high standards, they really don't have too much to worry about with people not buying their DLC.

The reason it is being delayed so much is probably because of some deep rooted glitches on multiple platforms. I've had tons thus far and the number that appears shoots up drastically with mods that are already out. Even just the google earth change for the map that only altered the zoomable range on the map came with an interesting glitch where at night the map was missing completely. It was instead just stars with floating icons.

That is my thought anyway, they have a glitch in the system that is just too large for them to simply release it without causing problems for the users. Would also explain why they aren't talking about it. Any publicity is good publicity when you are getting your name out there, but bad publicity is very harmful when you are trying to sell a product.

Well, while they haven't said they are for sure gana release it, there is a sticky post here on these forums about how they are working on it and they hope to have it out Soontm.

So while they haven't specifically said they are for sure releasing it, it's like 99% for sure...it's just a matter of when...

Yes, we have multiple confirmations it will have a creation kit, and the last time we heard before release, they were aiming to release it "Very soon" after release day. Clearly something went wrong there, but they still promised it.

Plus you know, the fact its what alot of people buy these games for. Moddability. They know their market.

I'm more anxious for the creation kit than I was for Skyrim. Is that strange? Or maybe its because there was an official release date for Skyrim so I didnt always have it on my mind.

Well even without CK we can do some interesting experiments right now.
We already mess with new UI and animation system, there is testing version of SKSE and even plugins for it, there is NifScope thats able opens new NIF files and even allow small edits, there is testing version of 3D Max nif import plugin, we can edit and replace textures, we can edit esm entries with TESsnip and save them as esp plugins, there is experimental support of Skyrim for Wrye Bash.

But there is so much interesting mysteries and unresolved questions like how much free body slots Skyrim has, how work magic effect system, how work radiant story and dialogue systems, how work scripting system, etc.
Only with CK we can solve such mysteries.

Well, Fallout 3's GECK was released something like a month and a half after release, so as long as we get it before, say Christmas, I'd consider that a win.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I raged like you wouldn't believe when Gstaff said we wouldn't get it this week (especially since the patch fixes nothing, and I just generally want to mod the damn game already), but at least it's not as late as the GECK was. Yet.
