The CRYOLATOR

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:02 am

The Cryolator is the best gun in the game. It's a freeze-ray that one-shot kills just about anything, even deathclaws. Yes, with it you can run around and be Mr Freeze.

Where is it? It's in a locked container in the Overseer's Office in the vault.

Only one teensy problem-- you have to be level 18 to have Master Lockpicking, and you need Master Lockpicking to open that container. Bummer.

But wait!! Even though you can't open it, DOGMEAT can! Just tell him to "fetch" on the container, and voila!

You get Dogmeat only a couple of hours into the game, so now you know how to quickly get the best gun in the game and kick some major booty!

Hurry, before somebody nerfs it!

Tis indeed true. I just tested it and it worked. You have to tell dog meat to fetch an item while in the room.

You Sir, are a pure GENIUS. :) It's great to know this because Dogmeat was beginning to drive my PC bat [censored]e crazy with his neurotic running around. This hyperactivity is the worst when we're in an interior. And he also has an irritating habit of cutting off my PC when he's trying to move in a straight line--just like my real life GSD.

So now I'm genuinely beginning to love Dogmeat B)

Now I'm off to see if this works on advanced and master locked containers. There are several such ones in Concord and that dank Sanctuary house basemant as well.

Someone on reddit posted this too. Ahhh dogmeat perhaps he'll be a useful companion after all. Get him to fetch all the weapons inside a tough lock.

Tried this last night with both Dogmeat and Codsworth and neither would open it. It seems people who play on consoles can get this to work but people on PC can't.

I tried it on the PC twice last night and it worked both times.

Make sure you order the dog to move as close to the weapon as possible. Tell him to "Fetch", the selects "Items". It should take a few seconds, and he will grab it in his mouth and drop it to the ground.

If it's not working, there might be something wrong with the game-state. Try reloading when you are right next to the weapon.

I can't get it to work on the PS4. I've tried asking him to fetch items in the overseer's office and selecting the safe and asking him to unlock. Nothing works.

Talk to Dogmeat and choose trade. He should have the ammo for it.

This isn't the best gun in the game damagewise, but the freezing effect is nice.

The Cryolator is not really for killing. It's supposed to put the target in cryogenic stasis, eh?

Anyway, what do you want ot bet that even with all the bugs out there, the dogmeat/Cryolator thing will be one of the first things patched...

Fair enough but I can't figure out why people are calling it the best gun in the game if it doesn't even kill.

Must be playing on easy difficulty, you do way more damage in easy.

Even on normal the mirelurk queen has only 1k HP on survival she absorbs way more damage.

I tested this on my sisters character, and when she went up against the Deathclaw in Comcord, it did not, in fact, die instantly. The Cryolater is basically a cold version of the Flamer, in that it deals low damage over time instead of heavy damage up front. Unfortunately, this is hampered by a measly 20 round magazine, so just when you start getting some damage in, you have to reload, then require the target shoot it for a second, then reload again. To me, it's an extremely poor weapon, and anyone who says it's a one hit kill on anything either is lying, or needs to actually explain how they're achieving these one-hit kills. As it is, it seems to be a cold Flamer with much worse performance.

even without dogmeat you can still get it pretty early on.. just get cait as your companion give her a few bobby pins and ask her to open it for you *she has master lockpicking* and you can get cait as your companion shortly after you get to diamond city. (or before if you know where the combat zone is)

i dont know what was wrong with you.. one burstfire from vats was enough to kill any enemy in the game (outside of legendary enemies which took a few shots)

to be fair though.. shooting snowballs at people really doesnt seem like it would really do a whole lot.. the gun itself is a huge joke in that regard.. killing enemies with snowballs... youd think they would be some halloween themed weapon (since it is around halloween when the world ends based on stuff that is said and the halloween pails around sanctuary)

I think a properly modded Gatling Laser is superior dps/damage potential.

I modded it to the long barrel upgrade, and it fires pellets instead of spraying gas. And it WILL kill, even mutants, etc. It's very effective.
