That what Crysis over a LOT game stories has had an edge in... the Presentation. Crysis one had MANY moments that you just went WOW... and I mean WOW. The story alone is pretty basic but what was built up around it made you think 'just maybe this is real.' The graphics of these games have always been at high standards but the some set pieces communicate that **** is going down and you better move it.(think the mountain falling apart mid way through Crysis).
Now many a person will think... "Yeah, that is nice EmpReb but Crysis 2 just **** on all of what made Crysis good". Gameplay wise... yes I can agree the suit feels dumber in someways (the streamline suit modes is not the main reason but that is not the tangent I am not going on for this post) However presentation wise ,the whole package here.... not just Graphics and gameplay,Crysis actuality step on to a HIGHER ground than Crysis total story package wise. The main complaint (were talking story here folks) I find with Crysis 2 is that Confusing and forgets the past game.
"Meh" 'Armor Engaged' Ok, it didn't it just chose to NOT do the typical episodic series "and last time on Intsert what ever show/series that does this." No, its WRITER who is QUITE versed in the arts of Sci-fi story telling decides to pretty much keep the mystery of certain KEY events locked up but then here and there give you backstory and details that add a WHOLE LOT PLOT to the whole first game. Really he does great job of making you desire to know more about this WHOLE ceph problem and who really was behind the Lingshan Islands disaster (you as player have first hand account of that bs).
What Crysis 2 really did was throw the traditional series transition between episodes out the window and decided to throw curve ball at us. IT MAKES YOU THINK. The whole game really gives good idea of what the heck has happened but you got to look for it and piece it together. Its not that hard but most games these days really don't even try to make an interesting plot that requires some thinking anymore.
That's why I find Crysis 2 whole presentation so good and why its got I think five play thorough from me and still could get few more. I had to go back and replay to understand the whole story.
What I am getting at is Crysis 2 gave a STORY focus game with freedoms YET focus rarely seen today and that your pretty much THE character. The game sets you on the path to find out to save the day but treats you as Alcatraz not the player is real treat. Crysis 2 really does what it set out to do. Give you nanosuit 2 but also mission that is more mysterious/errie than you think. It high presentation bar comes from everything meshing together to give some more than sum of the parts.
I pray that the Crysis 3 writer can tie stuff up the Prophet Trilogy(if you don't know it by now your late my friend) but also leave room for question to yet be answered. There is a saying in fiction writing to only give 10% of what you,the writer, REALLY know about your world and Crysis so far I feel has been holding to this rule.
