Morag Tong likes to kill people, I don't see people calling them sadists or crazy.

Yeah. Hopefully they've lost the vampire teenager vibe.
I completely agree with this statement. I'd rather see it more as a cold, business-like organization than "WE SPIIIL BLUUD FOR SITHISSSSS!!!!" I'm also not against having some of the members have some pretty dark humor too, like the quest giver in Daggerfall. Like the following

  • When against competition, "The Dark Brotherhood has been the sole assassin's guild in Tamriel since the Second Era. We intend to keep that monopoly. There is a freelance assassin who has been flaunting us for some time, but (assassin's name)'s luck has ended. I want you to teach (him/her) a permanent lesson, and then repeat the lesson for (his/her) foolish employer."
  • When hired to kill bards, "Here's a rather amusing accounting that may appeal to your morbid sense of humor. Seems there's this untalented bard with a penchant for rude limericks about former patrons. As it turns out, (his/her) knowledge of geneology was lacking, and (he/she) sang a song about an incistuous duke to (his/her) new patroness, the duke's daughter. Interested in accounting this uncouth artiste for (random gold) gold pieces?"
  • When hired by the Mages Guild, "The Mages Guild has come to us for a bit of messy business that's too gross and nasty for them to deal with. A renegade mage needs an accounting fast. Interested?" or "We have the Mages Guild for a client again. Seems that one of their boys has been sniffing too much bat gut, and has gone off on a rampage. Sound interesting, (Brother/Sister)?"
  • When hired by the Knight Orders, "Ah, here's something to appeal to the romantic in you, (player's first name): a caddish knight has besmeared the honor of a fair damsel and refuses to fight any who would defend her. The poor girl did the only thing she could do, and now we have some accounting to do. You're interested, I take it?" and when complete "So the rogue knight has entered the hereafter, yes? Perhaps in his next incarnation he will have the wisdom to keep his sword sheathed. Well done, as usual, (player's first name)."

They are more government oriented, as in that you have to get a writ approved, and obviously they wont approve a writ to kill a dude you dont like. Thats why guards go crazy about the Dark brotherhood because they carry out people wishes on revenge without the hassle of the morag tong

Morag Tong is only legal in Morrowind, and even then it's pretty much restricted to dunmer, with some notable exception when it comes to grey writs. However, the MT are nothing more than hacks, with a "get-out-of-jail" card, and could kill someone, wearing the loudest and brightest of armor, shouting to the top of their voice, and do it at a place of high population density.

My problem with the Dark Brotherhood wasn't just that they were teenage devil worshipers, but that they were simply unbelievable. The Cheydinhall branch were just too cheerful to be taken seriously, with the voice actors totally failing at convincing me that these people were stone cold killers. Lucien Lachance was even worse. When I first heard him, I didn't think "Woah, this guy is evil", I thought "Woah, this voice actor really needs to take it down a notch"

But yeah, please bring back the more business-like DB of Daggerfall. Not only is it more believable, but it might make identifying with the DB characters easier if their membership with the DB is just their "work life". That way there might be something more to them, unlike Oblivion's cheerful paragons of murderous intent.

how did you walk away from that game without noticing that with a couple of exceptions........there were all nuts. the orc guy brags about how he doesnt do his kills stealthily to get the extra rewards simply cause he likes killing. or the creepy archer lady. or the leaders who were revelling in killing a colleague. were we even playing the same game. this wasnt the collection of hardened, professional mercenary killers who took pride in the secrecy and stealth of the DB..........they were just a bunch of psychotic unstable whackjobs. vicente was the only real exception and maybe the khajit sinced i dont recall him spouting sithis all the time.

So? What do you expect from people who've broken numerous taboos that they kill for a living. They'd have to be a little nuts.

My DB character was quite the looney herself. Later on showing her true mania in the shivering isles.

And as I said earlier, there's no way that Sithis could possibly be demanding murders since Sithis is not a conscious entity, but a concept of non-existence. It's my current belief that the Night Mother is Mephala, spinning another web to keep her former followers of the Morag Tong ensnared in her service.

This is what I was thinking also.
Mephala has us all tangled up.

The faith argument isn't really valid here. Most modern organized religions just reinforce what you know in your conscience to be right.

I hope this guy's not serious.

Your conscience is nothing magical, Larry.

Not only is this not the place for an attack like that, but your view is irrational.
All religions and myths base off of the same human archetypes and, morality. Magic is irrelevant.

Hit a nerve? It wasn't an attack, more an expression of surprise.

A person's "conscience" and the genetically ingrained moral archetypes we all have are not the same thing. Not even close.

Again, I hope they touch on the whole situation with Sithis. He can't be speaking to people or wanting murders if he's the concept of everything that doesn't exist and is just the void. Is he Lorkhan? Is he Mephala? What's the deal? Come on!

Hopefully people stop feeling like anything "dark" is an emo teenage vampire. I never got that vibe from the Dark Brotherhood but apparently I'm alone in that.

I got that vibe haha. I couldn't take them seriously because of it.

I agree there, I got a number of vibes from the Dark Brotherhood, but the "emo teenage vampire" stereotype was never one of them.

So you're problem is with the voice actors not really pulling off the "stone cold killer" thing? That happens. Especially when they're voiced by the same voice actors who do the voices for other characters of their race in the game and don't try to disguise this... At least Lucien Lechance tried to sound different from a generic Imperial.

On the other hand, if they tried to do the "stone cold killer" thing it could easily come off as over the top, I think, and end up just seeming ridiculous.

But we've known the Dark Brotherhood was in Skyrim for some time, and that's nice, I wonder how they'll differ from past games in Skyrim, though, and I'm assuming they will, as it seems like the way the Dark Brotherhood is portrayed is always changing between games, although in Morrowind it's actually hard to be sure since they only appeared as enemies in Tribunal and there wasn't enough detail on their inner workings to really compare tham adequately to other games.

Benedict Cumberbatch or Alan Rickman to act the leader of the DB.

Too passe for my tastes. The leader of the DB should be charismatic with a heavy dose of dark humor. More of a Robert Downey Jr. role.

I dunno, the guys at the fighters guild didn't look and sound like the kind of people who have to have football on all the time, every day.

I'll accept that the DB isn't emo, but they most certainly have some devil worshiping cult vibe as they say 'Sithis' in nearly every sentence after every 5 words.
