The Dead Is Dead Thread #9

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:14 pm

Guys, I haven't lost faith and hope you haven't either but I was ashamed to add more deaths to my all ready overcrowded graveyard. I'm beginnning to think that I take too many risks to get through the entire game safely however Susanandana did get to lvl 26 before the deathclaws killed her, a new all time high for me. Recently, another restart, got chewed to bits when she fell off the ledge in the rat infested cave going for Ratslayer. Rats chewing on you is about as horrible a way to die as I can think of and I knew the risks when I went into the cave but the allure of Ratslayer at level 5 was too much to pass up. But I fell off the @#$%ing ledge...... :banghead: anyway! SH@T SH#T SH$T

Susanadana lvl 26 DID 29.30.42
Suzzi lvl 7 DID 10.26.81

My comrades, I'm afraid Truck may not live much longer.

While out in the Divide to settle a score, I forgot about my "Deathclaw apocolypse" mod.
You see, If I do not clear out the DCs Nests within in a certain time, They will spawn in towns and settlements.
When they do they get 'Upgraded' to a stronger version.
Well I was gone so long, they have taken over just about every town, Even vegas.
This was unbeknowst to me however and I fast traveled to Goodsprings and landed right in front of a Doomclaw hunter.
One swipe sent me flying(Luckily) into a door which I quickly mashed E to get in.
Outside there is a doomclaw hunter who has stats like:
1700 HP
45DT
40DR
7HP regen per seconed
A Fire breath attack which does 16DAM per seconed
A swipe which knocks off a good 310HP.

I have a 10mm pistol, 2 C4 bricks, 17 Satchels and a Shovel.
Advice would be nice!

Med-x? Turbo? Slasher? Battle Brew? Stealth Boys?

Paralyzing Palm? Super Slam? And Stay Back?

Compliance Regulator?

If you have at least two of Med-x/Slasher/Battle Brew, you can reduce their damage by 50%. All three is 85%, which is practically god mode.

Either aim to escape or aim to kill it. If you don't think you can kill it, plan an escape. I dunno what house you're in or how many deathclaws there are, but there's one bigger house smack-dab in the middle of Goodsprings that has two entrances. If you do go outside, plan on escaping but dunno how, it might be a good idea to aim for that house first. That way, you could try entering via one door and exiting out the other in sneak mode. If that works, you can either stay stealthed long enough to see if he moves away from your immediate area or you could just try and make a break for it then and there. OR you could immediately start tossing satchels all around the house, knowing it'll be forced to circle around and walk right over them.

Lost my favorite Legionary ever, Marc Antony, 21/08/2282, at the Long 15 :cold:

I got past the deathclaws by climbing rocks and mountains near quarry junction on my character Titus :celebration:

Now my first visit here is to say, well i'm in trouble! I got ambushed by legion assassins on my way from Novac after a quick visit. As I was walking down the road I suddenly heard shots! And then well, I got attacked! So I ran towards Helios One, and the NCR there were aleready under attack from other legion soldiers! :sadvaultboy: So I killed of the last legion soldier there with one shot from the mysterious magnum. So here I am with 2 NCR soldiers held up at the Sandbags and the 6 Legion assassins are closing up! We don't stand a chance! Gawd. Sometimes I hate high difficultys, DID, and restricting myself from fast travel. I was stupid enough to send my good weapons from Goodsprings to freeside 'cause I have me some l00t. So i'm here waiting to die. I could always enter Helios One, but... What do I do when I get out? :shakehead:

I'm not dead.........yet.
A Goodspring settler at the well made a good distraction for the Doomclaw.
I don't know where to go though!
My character is bleeding and needs a docter.
Does anyone know where I can go.

I'll try and post a list of "Overrun" towns later.

If you aren't hated by the Great khans run for one of their camps. If not, try to go the big cross you can find a little north (I think :P ) of goodsprings, around there there should be an abandoned shack you can check out, maybe you should head for Primm?

12 of them! thats right, 12!

I needed to level the playing field in the open Mojave.
Lets just say I have "Armored superiorety".
Plus I have added me a true Ion cannon instead of that Archimedes light show.
Needed some new PA, got me a suit of "Screaming Eagle" PA.
Railguns nice too.

Lets get this party started!

Score one to me!
Made my up Highway 95 from searchlight with the "Armored superiority".
Got to Novac to be greeted by 7 tall basterds running towards us.
Its good I had distance, planted mines and sniped them. The tank helped too.
Lured out "Dinky the Deathclaw" and ran for my life while the tank took care of it.
Novac is mine again. Only the Bramhin farmers left alive.

RIP, Tania. Level 30 NCR soldier. She died to Lanius in the final battle, but as her slow-mo death occurred, a single brush gun shot was heard, and Lanius' head exploded.

Tania fell, but Cass avenged her friend, and won the dam for the NCR.

Samantha has entered Dead Money. Two of three collars, Ghost People are extremely vulnerable to sneak and spear throw. Other than that, the Bear Trap Fist makes her essentially invincible.

One very good shout-out here: Thank you FOOKNV for adding a random chance for a Fire Axe to spawn in Fire Hose boxes. Guess what Samantha found? It's a lot better than I anticipated.

It means when you die you don't reload a saved game. Your character is simply dead for good. Game Over.

I don't do it. Hate it in RL.

Yeah. I always play DID in real life, and it's a [censored].

As for why DID? It basically boils down to this:
If you want the most immersive experience you can get in this game, nothing beats the added tension created by knowing that one little mistake, one bad decision, one poorly planned act, one instance of bad luck, can end your character. It makes each decision in the game much more important. It forces you to think strategically and tactically. Instead of just floudering into masses of foes, knowing that if such a frontal assault doesn't work out so well, you can just reload and try it a different way, you learn to plan out attacks, use terrain, use your weapons and allies better, sometimes even just walk away. When your character's very life is on the line with each choice you make, it doesn't get more real than that. Like I said, DID in anything is a real [censored].

Wow, the Tri-Beam gets a Crit. On every shot, I swear. Don't even have Laser Commander yet.

Really need to get PA training, hard to advance with so many game freezes and file corruptions. -_-

Currently doing a DiD and "realistic scavenging" runthrough of Fallout 3. I don't use mods to force myself to the realism part because I'm more dedicated than that. Only one two handed weapon (Laser Rifle), one sidearm (Laser Pistol) and one-handed melee weapon (Uh.. Lead Pipe at current).

Only scavenge crafting parts, chems, ammunition and lightweight weaponry that I could feasibly have tucked away into a backpack. I used to think I'd be missing out with armor but in Fallout 3 it doesn't sell for quite as much as I remember so I'm okay with that.

I didn't even intend to start off as a Dead is Dead, I just got up to level 10 and sort of looked around and said "Oh wait, huh. I haven't died yet." after yet another narrow scraqe with a buttload of old military robots, and decided it was D.i.D time. Sergeant RL-3 failed his Dead-is-Dead experience this go-round however, my own fault for forgetting companions in FO3 aren't Essential. No reloading mistakes, though!

I'm HOPING this character will make it into New Vegas as I intend my Lone Wanderer to be my Courier as well (four year difference is a long time to wander) so hopefully I'll be doing DiD New Vegas soon. We'll see how Sam fares when the Enclave shows up, though. Energy Weapons in Fallout 3 are definitely not DiD friendly as it takes a ridiculous amount of connecting shots to kill just about anything even on normal, until you get some of the add-on lasers.
