The Dead Horde: Part 2

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:10 pm

Dynter faced 3 beasts blocking his route to the castle. He broubt down his axe on one, smashing its head. He hit the other corprus in the chest sending it flying backward. The third one jumped on him and punched him in the face. With his great srength Dynter shoved the beast off of him and slamed it in the ground. The proceded to smash its skull into bits. Dynter's face was an unrecognisable Mess. He wouldn't be able to take more then a few more before thry overwhelmed him. He looked to see and group attack a man near a wagon, Dynter charged hitting one of the 4 corprus beasts attacking the man on the wagon's arm with a resound Crack. The beast lept away and Dynter swung the hammer on another one hitting it in the chest. The one whos arm he had broked hit in the face with its other hand. He was dazed for a second and probably would not have lived had the man in the wagon not decapitated the beast. Together they killed the last one. "Flee for the castle" Dynter told the man, the blood making his voice gurgle. He turned and ran for the castle.

OOC: Ok, another 4 beasts attacked Waylas around the same time then. Ok then, i ran over to the castle then ran back to help you guys.

IC: Dynter returned to his companions to find that 4 corprus beast were attacking them. He charged into the fray, smashing a skull, another corprus beast hit him in the right arm, breaking it, he fell to the ground with his hammer dropped, the monster started stomping on him, hopefully his companions would help him out.

As Waylas was firing arrows at the four beasts attacking Amiel's group, another four attacked Waylas. Fortunately, a rather feminine looking Nord
( OOC:While Amiel thinks Dynter looks toned down, Waylas thinks he looks feminine) saved him. Waylas was forced to pull the wagon and its horse inside the castle walls. Waylas, now secure behind the castle walls, made his way into a guard tower. Eventually, he was able to reach the castle walls and returned to his duties of firing arrows at the attacking creatures. On his way up, he secured another bundle of arrows, numbering 24 in total.

As a creature began stomping on Dynter, Amiel charged for it and stabbed the creature in the base of its spine, killing it. Its corpse fell akwardly over-top of Dynter, but Amiel shoved it off and quickly helped dynter up.

"It badly inuured one of my legs" groaned Dynter "I can't stand. I'll need help getting to the castle. Do you have a stick or some other sort of support?" He picked up his hammer and leaned aginast it, it woud be too heavy to lean on if he was to walk around though. But he would not leave it behind.

"No, I don't. Just hold on to me, and we should reach the castle as long as we have covering fire from my subordinate" Amiel pointed to Waylas, who was now on the walls. Amiel helped Dynter limp to the castle, and they were able to make it past the gates, thanks to Waylas killing several flanking corpus beasts. Setting Dynter down agianst one of the walls, Amiel then scanned the road for Fanier.

This is horrible, dynter thought, no warrior should be forced to lie down like a coward when a battle is raging. "Walyas!" Dynter called "Fetch me a healer. It pains me to sit here wallowing like a coward while others fight. Do a warrior a favour!" He picked himself up and leaned agianst the wall as Walyas ran to get a healer.

Walyas returned with the healer, after the healer walked over to Dynter walyas returned to his post. "I'm the castle healer" he said "Where are you wounded?" "As you can see, my face is a mess, one of my ribs is broken along with my arm being brioked, and one of my legs is ruined. A lesser man would faint at such pain" He winced and writhed as the healer moved his hands over Dynter's body, the magic poped broked bones back into place, and sealed cuts. "There you go, " said the healer. "Be careful thiough, even with magic this will take a whiel to heal fully." "That matters not to me, for i am Dynter the Barbarian!" He charged out the gates and back into the fray to help Fanier and Amiel get bnack to the castle.

( OOC: THIS is why moving fast is bad. I haven't even posted yet and now i'm expected to fight towards the castle? I was under the impression it was Midday, now it's suddenly night time? )

The large group of gaurds began to run towards the castle, beasts charging at them.
They swung wildly at the creatures, they wouldn't get such a large group.

Arrows, arms, legs and blades flying everywhere.
Clanging of metal and groans from the beasts, blood drenching the streets.
They finally made it to the castle, bloody and exhausted.
Seems the majority of the beasts had headed straight for them.

Primo, Fey, and a number of Gaurds stood at the gate waiting for the others to get in, Hirrus and the rest of the gaurds on the walls raining arrows down on the beasts below.
Hirrus watched the Imperial from the fighters guild, keeping as many beasts from him as possible.

The rest of the survivors would need to get in soon, lest they have to close the gates before they were in.

Fimmion

Lake Arrius, North of Cheydinhal.

Fimmion sprinted through the forest gleefully, carrying deer meat in a bag in his left hand.
He began to whistle a tune he learnt back in Valenwood, a tune his father used to whistle after a successful hunt.

The sun was setting, he should be back by now, eating dinner before going to bed.
Oh well, a bit of a late supper would be fine.
He would eat while gazing up at the gleaming stars.

Was that a groan?

Probably a bear he told himself.

There it was again..

Fimmion saw his camp coming into sight, hearing the groan again.
Suddenly a strange beast lept from behind a tree.
He stopped dead in his tracks, staring at the beast.
After both of them pausing for a moment, it ran at him.

Fimmion ran as fast as he could, darting towards his camp.
Leaping into the tree, he scrambled to get into where he had slept last night.
He pulled out his bow, notching an arrow.

He wouldn't kill this thing yet, it would be better to observe, maybe find out what it was.

It had a humanoid form, walking on two legs, but made beastly noises, and seemed to have little intelligence, only a glaring ferocity.
More began to come through the forest, heading towards him, as if they could smell him.

This is going to be a long night..

The Attic, if that's what it was supposed to be, was smaller then a regular room, but bigger then a Prison Cell. To Radeks right was a large bookshelf, one side filled with loads of books on it, the other side filled with little labeled jars about the size of a small coffee can. Off further up in the farthest right corner from the trapdoor was a desk with alchemy gear, beakers, flasks and empty bottles on it, and between it was a small chest with a large latch on it. Finally, On the left side of the room was a bed, with the foot of the bed facing towards the middle of the room, and against the wall on the other side of the bed was a dresser.

Radek approached the Bookshelf and began rummaging through the books. All them labeled with titles talking about subjects of Ayleid magick and Dwemer technology. Along with them were some scrolls and a small book with some sort of stain on it. He looked at the labeled jars and picked on up. But immediately set it down when his hands began feeling incredibly cold. He then turned his attention on the desk with alchemical gear, there seemed to ingredients on the desk as well. He recognized a few of them and picked one up. It was a long pale stalk, with a fleshy orb attached to the end.

Stinkhorn.

Radek groaned in disgust and put it back down. He had once tried to eat Stinkhorn, by cooking it up over a fire. It didn't end very well. Radek got sick for several days, and always needed to vomit every few minutes. A few bottles lay on the desk too, he picked one up, and pulled off the cork. A strange vapor erupted from the bottle. Radek took a small whiff of it, and nearly dropped the bottle. The vapor sent a stinging pain through his nose, he backed up, hand grasping his snout. He then proceeded to sneeze, a loud yell erupted from Radek's throat as he propelled the chemical in the vapor out of his body. He sniffed loudly, and flexed his nose.

Note to self: Dont sniff vapors from strange potions..., he decided not to trifle with anymore potions on the desk. Noticing the chest that sat a few feet beside him, Radek walked up and knelt beside it. In his eyes, it was glowing with interest. He undid the large latch on it, and opened the small wooden chest. All that seemed to in there was nothing of any interest in Radek. He was hoping for something like a large stash of gold. Still, he dug through it. He pulled out a small Leatherbound book of sorts. He opened it up and flipped through a few pages, seeing, what appeared to be Entry's.

Loredas, 5th of Sun's Height, 4E 35

I'd hoped to have someone to invite over for my birthday, but.. oh well. I guess it's not so bad; I've got mom and dad and they both got me some nice presents. Mom bought me a new notebook and dad had a set of light leather armor fitted to me so I don't have to worry so much when I go out to hunt for alchemical ingredients. The armor's comfy and the notebook's the perfect size to put in my pack. I've enchanted it to take ink but repel all other liquids, so hopefully I won't be able to ruin this one by spilling tea on it like the last one. At least I managed to salvage the schematics I was working on.. sorta.
Still, I wish I had friends to hang out with now and then. I'm happy to live with my snout in a book most days, but sometimes I just want some company. But I guess that's what one gets for being born a girl who looks like a boy; nobody wants to be around you because you're a freak.

Upon reading the Entry, Radek realized, that this was someone Diary. He had half the mind of putting it down, it was private property. But curiosity got the best of him. He, regretfully flipped through a few pages.

Fredas, 11th of Rain's Hand, 4E 37

There's a reason it's called 'Rain's Hand,' and that's because that's all it ever does during the whole month : rain. I've been wanting to go gather ingredients, but the mosses I need only grow after it rains, not while it's raining. Stupid weather.
On the bright side, I managed to get hold of some confiscated Dwemer schematics that I were in the evidence chest of the castle dungeon. Some adventurer had them on him. They always have something interesting in that chest and the best part is nobody would ever expect little ol' me to be a thief! It's great. Of course, I put the schematics back once I copied them, but still. Tee hee..

Radek Chuckled to himself a little, then skipped a few more pages. The author of this Dairy was probably dead, so maybe they wouldn't care.

Morndas, 2nd of Sun's Dawn, 4E 38

I've found myself pondering a rather odd subject today: my birth parents. I was born into slavery, but I know the egg that I hatched from had to come from someone. I wonder what they were like, my birth mom and dad.. and I wonder how they lost me. I wonder if they were forced to have me or if they loved each other? I wonder if they'd be proud of me if they knew me now, no life to speak of besides my work, no friends, no boyfriend, just me in my attic forgetting to eat.
It hurts to think of it, but there's a good chance they're still there, in Morrowind, breaking their backs for nothing. I wish I could go there and save them somehow, go meet them. But.. I know I can't. I should stop thinking about it before I get depressed again. Heh. Again. Who am I kidding, I'm always depressed. If it weren't for mom and dad here to hug me and tell me they love me when I got home, I'd hate my life..

Poor lass, at least she had parents, at least she had a home, not like- His thoughts were cut off by a low growl. Radek bolted up, dropping the Dairy on the ground, his hand Immediately shot to his newly claimed machete. In the blink of an eye, he withdrew it, and stood in a Fighters Stance, holding the machete out in front of him.

He saw nothing, only a small potted plant, sitting on the window sill by the bed. He sighed annoyingly and re-sheathed the Machete, then grabbed the Dairy off the ground and walked to the window. He sat on the sill, facing the room, and was about to open the Dairy again, when the plant on the sill did something Radek did not expect.

It Barked.

Radek looked down at the plant, Did it just...? He mentally asked himself. He bent down to touch it, but as his finger neared the plant, it began to growl fiercely, like a dog. He pulled his finger back quickly, then sat back up, eyes still on the plant. Its a plant.....that....barks and growls?, he stood from the window and stared out it. This place is bull [censored] crazy

He heard another noise, but this time it wasn't from the plant. It came from outside. He looked around the Cheydinhal ruins and noticed several large lumbering figures, emerging from various holes in the walls. Radeks eyes shot wide in terror, as a single word came to his lips.

''Corprus!''

OOC: Thanks to Aluakuass for both the Dairy Entries and Permission. Have a good read, mates!

Fanier breathed a sigh of relief. They were almost to the castle. The slight smirk on his face faded away as he turned around to see that one corprus beast had caught up to him.

The beast lept into the air, tackling Fanier and bringing him to the ground. Fanier's sword was knocked away from him. The beast was on top of Fanier, and the only thing keeping it from tearing his head off were Fanier's hands, wrapped around its neck. The two were locked in a struggle of raw strength and power, laying on the ground in a stalemate.

The corprus beast snarled and writhed, almost reaching Fanier's throat; at one point it got close enough to clasp Fanier's amulet in its teeth, ripping it off and flinging it away.

Fanier looked to his left, and time seemed to freeze. He saw his amulet, lying on the ground next to him. But he could not retrieve it; he dare not remove his hands from the beast's throat.

He looked up into the beast's eyes; its lifeless, soulless eyes. And he saw not a corprus beast, not a living entity to be faced or feared. He simply saw an obstacle standing between him and his amulet. In that moment, Fanier thought not of survival, of corprus, or of the people around him.

He thought of his amulet.

He thought of his wife.

And in that moment he lost all thought. A flood of pure emotion ran through him, filling his veins, emitting through every pore in his body. Fanier put all possible force into the corprus beast above him, and, in seemingly superhuman strength, stood up, taking the beast with him.

Unthinking, Fanier yelled the fiercest cry of rage he had ever made, and thrust his right hand into the rotten flesh of the beast's throat. When his hand came out, the creature fell limp, first onto its knees, then back. In Fanier's hand was a small portion of its spine.

Still not quite sure of what was going on, Fanier stepped back a few yards and picked up his amulet.

Behind him, the gates of the castle flew open and several guards rushed out. "Get in! Get in!" they all shouted, and Fanier simply stood there, not yet back to his senses. A few seconds, or for all Fanier knew, a few minutes passed, when he finally realized what was going on.

"Everyone in the castle!" he yelled to the others as he ran inside.

Dynter covered amiel and Fanier's back as they returned to the castle. They got in safely. Dynter ran up to the guard tower and watched as the street were fillled with the creatures lumbering around horridly. If they had stayed longer they surely would not have survived. He turned to Amiel and Fanier. "What now? Do we hold the castle and Journey to the Imperial city tomorrow?"

Amiel failed to catch sight of Fanier's effort to retrieve his amulet, but as Fanier began moving towards the castle he caught sight of him.

"Quickly Fanier!"

FAnier and Amiel both made it past the gates, inside the castle courtyard. Noting that everyone was now behind the gates, Amiel yelled "Close the gates!" One of the cheydinhal guards, noticing that everyone was inside the walls, closed the metal gates that would protect the castle residents. then, Dyntar approached Fanier and Amiel, asking about what to do next.

"Yes, we will go to the Imperial city tommorow. Fanier, round up anyone that is interested in coming. I'll get Dyntar screened and we'll be waiting in the kitchen."

Amiel moved towards the grand doors of the castle and entered. The breton healer with black hair approached Amiel, and agian asked him to stick out his tongue. Amiel complied.
"You're clean."

Primo

Primo stood at the gates, watching the Corpus come nearer to the gate, a large group of them.
Then he heard Hirrus yell as a volley of arrows rained down on them, killing a few, the others continuing on with arrows sticking from them.

By the Nines, if they don't hurry up we will all be dead!

As the Imperial, Elf, and Nord-Elf came in through the gates, Primo rushed to close them.
Mere seconds after they were closed, there was a banging on them.

" That was a close call there, next time a bit faster? You put all of our lives in danger. "

Fanier barely heard Amiel's instructions. Fanier walked up to him, but did not look him in the eye. "I'm sorry, Amiel," he said somberly. "I..." he tried to find the right words. "I need to sit down for a second."

Without waiting for Amiel's feedback, he walked across the room, to a secluded bench away from everyone else. He sat down, clasped his amulet, and let the unprecedented flood of memories fill his mind.

"C'mon, Fanier," Lathora pleaded, smiling.

"I don't know, Lathora, I mean...

"Pleeeeeaase, it's perfectly safe. I mean, Dagoth Ur's gone, what do we have to worry about?"

"I said I don't know, Lathora," Fanier said sternly. "Well," he paused. "There's corprus beasts in there."

"So we'll get a Buoyant Armiger to come with us. We'll be fine, they escort tourists all the time now."

Fanier podered this for a bit, and was about to say no, but then he looked at Lathora. She was smiling, her eyebrows raised, waiting for an answer. He looked into her eyes, and knew that he couldn't say no.

"All right," he conceded.

"Thanks, Fanier," said Lathora, right before leaning in and kissing him.

Fanier let the memories flow through his mind like a stream, though he could remember every detail. Fanier got up to help the others.

Dynter looke at Amiel. "Excellent" He said and continued on to meet the healer. The healer looked at him and seemed suprised when Dynter stuck out his tonuge "Uh, oh....looks like...oh wait, my bad your clean. NEXT PATIENT!" Dynter was worried for a second. Dynter followed Amiel out of the room. On the way out he noticed a sign saying "The docter is in". He continued to follow Amiel. "Wait amiel," He said "I'm going to the gates to help the guards defend." With that he walked away, and posistioned himself over the gate. HE threw rocks at the monster. He was not skill with a bow.

IC: "That's fine Dynter, but I need to see everyone who's willing to come with us at some point before we head out." Amiel figured the meeting could wait a little bit, but considering that he was terrible with a bow, he could not really help defend the gates.

Notcing that Fanier seemed troubled, Amiel approached Fanier, and asked "Are you okay Fanier? Did something happen during our fight towards the castle?" Amiel was worried, after all, his companion seemed as depressed as he was during Ulfgar's burial. Fortunately, the heat of the moment had taken Amiel's mind off the death, but he was worried about the sudden change in behavior that his companion had just expressed.

Primo decided he would take advantage of the moment of calm.
Walking towards the castle interior, Primo looked for the Imperial who had rushed through the gates.
This was the first time he had actually been inside the Castle, with all the fighting going on he hadn't had the chance.

Primo spotted the Imperial, standing next to the Elf.
Walking towards them he gazed around the room slowly.
" I remember you saying something about heading to the Imperial City? "

IC: Amiel looked up at the legion officer, and noticing his question, reesponded "Umm... yeah... Meet me in the kitchen and I'll brief you about the current preparations for the trip and the available routes." Amiel then turned his attention back to Fanier, as he was still waiting for a response.

(OOC: Wow, three pages in one day?)

Tadave rifled through what the guard had offered him. He fought well without armor, so he didn't need any. His desicion was between bows. There were two fine steel bows he was surveying. His father had taught him to survey his equipment carefully, making sure they had no flaws, no deformations, perfect. Tadave picked up one, running his hand over the bow, nodding in satisfaction. He pulled the string back, which twanged, but loosely. Tadave sighed and switched to the other bow. The stock was a bit rougher, but the string, was taunt. He sat down and looked into a chest, finding some rough parchment, much like sand paper, and began smoothing the wooden part of the bow.

OOC: Sorry Krimsin. I wanted to make a good sized post, but I couldn't think of anything else to write except for my response. (this is so I don't forget: 14 arrows, 17 knives)

IC: Dro'Raska heard the Argonian reply, "Look at this place." motioning towards the ruined city, "There's nothing but the sun to stop the creatures from coming back. While they lie dormant in their caves, we should be on the move." He thought deeply about this. His mind vacillated from one decision to another. Taking a tremendous effort to decide, he finally replied deliberately talking in a slow, calm, and low voice, "This place," he paused, "Is where I will find them. Some creatures won't stop me from finding them. Nothing will. Not you, not the beasts, not anyone. I came here from Black Marsh to find my family, my relatives, my friends. Why would I leave this place?" He uttered, holding back tears, "For all I know there are more beasts waiting in the wilderness to fight me. At least I have the walls to protect me and the safety of height, not just an open sky. No matter how beautiful Masser and Secunda are, they aren't going to give me any damn protection!"

Breathing deeply, he waited for the Argonian to reply. Dro'Raska leaned back and rested his head on his cloak. Shaking off the cape from his torso he let his chest bask in the remaining sunlight. The peaceful moment brought him to the edge of tears. Just remembering days like this where Ral-Kitjar, or Rakeem, would stretch out on the highest rocks they could find. The odd pair would bask in the sun for hours, rarely speaking, but seemingly communicating their thoughts on a higher level. Blinking back tears, he rubbed his eyes and hoped the Argonian would not see. The last bit of sun clipped the large battlements on the wall. Throwing the already dim city into a dark shadowy veil, the beasts approached.

Several roars and screams were heard throughout the city. The turmoil of swords hitting flesh and battle cries were muffled in the distance. Dro'Raska's ears perked up at the first grunt he heard. Groaning as he sat up, he gazed at the street. A crowd of the beasts were huddled below the two figures on the roof. The silhouettes of the two people were sharp against the light wooden roof. Wrapping his hands around the neck of one of the bottles, he swished the liquid contents quickly. The beasts groaned and roared while beating their arms onto the backs of others and the ones closest beat the wooden walls. Some made lame attempts at jumping or grabbing for the ledge. Dro'Raska bared his teeth and concentrated magical energy into his balled up fist. Releasing the tension in his hand and opening his fist, a surge of magical energy rushed through his hands. A single flame burst into life at the tip of his claw and he cautiously lit the rag on fire.

Grinning sadistically, Dro'Raska peered down at the creatures who, unbeknownst to them that their lives were at an end, if they even were alive. The mad grin left his face as he retracted his arm and held it in place for a moment. Dropping his arm violently, Dro'Raska let the bottle slip from his grasp at the end of his arc. The bottle spun awkwardly, its contents and inertia propelling it, and hit one of the beasts, in the very center of the mob, on its bony shoulder. A shatter echoed through the crisp night air and liquor burst free from the now shattered container, covering all the nearby creatures. The shards of glass pierced the skin of some, but still none bled, but simply oozed a yellow tinted red goo from the slits. The flaming rag was in midair, and the large crowd of beasts was engulfed. In a ball of thick, crackling, flames.

Fanier hesitated before answering Amiel's question. "I'm fine," he lied. He wasn't sure if he could tell anyone yet. "It's just, erm..." He tried to think of a suitable excuse.

"It's not much," he finally answered. "I think I hit my head pretty hard during that last fight." He didn't look Amiel in the eye.

"The kitchen, you say?" Fanier changed the subject. "I'll be there too, you know, dicussing routes and preparations."

Xa-raku backed off, "I meant no offense." He watched the mob burning and crossed his arms, remembering how chilly the night would get, "My plan was to cut my trip short and go back to Black Marsh, where their numbers would be crippled by the unforgiving swampland." Xa-raku pondered. If the frontlines of the creatures had decided to press onward past Cheydinhal, then fleeing the city could only mean tougher resistance, "Perhaps staying would be a wiser option. But if we do, we must stay together if we are to endure. I would offer my help to find your family, if you will accept it."

ooc: I'd thought it was as standard a font as any, but apparently, some people don't have the font I used for the diary entries. If it looks absurdly huge and like italic Times New Roman, you can get the proper font http://www.fonts101.com/xt_fontdetails_az_FID!25409~Amienne~font.html.

con-tur-eh, I think you mean either Masser or Secunda, though I can't recall which is big and which is little.

ic: As the sun began to set, Trisha quickened her pace through the city, glancing around frantically in fear. Stay out of the dark and you'll be okay. She said repeatedly in her mind to calm herself, They don't like the light. Stay out of the dark and you'll be fine.

Sadly, the sun got down below the rooflines faster than anticipated and soon, dark was all there was. The things started to come for her, hungering for meat. Rounding a corner to go up the path to the castle, rotting face with milky eyes greeted her with a dull groan. Trish screamed and, just out of pure fight-or-flight instinct, punched the thing square in the face. It stumbled a little, then bit into the leather armor covering her arm. Again, she screamed and this time thought to grab her dagger. She rammed it into the squishy, disgusting flesh of the beast's nasal cavity and the thing went limp and fell off it. She stared at it on the ground and almost dropped her dagger.

I.. I killed it? I did! I actually did it! Trisha's moment of surprise was short lived as a groan behind her reminded her that it wasn't alone. She didn't even bother to see what had groaned. She just ran from it, up the path and into her house. Upon entry, she slammed the door and locked it, as it that would hold them off.

"Mom?" She called, still daring to hope that her parents were alive, "Dad?" The second call was weaker, with an undertone like someone on the verge of tears. A sharp bang and an accompanying crack of wood brought Trisha to her senses again and she gasped, backing away from the door. Turning, she ran up the stairs and, without questioning why the stairs were down to her attic, climbed them quickly, pulling the mechanism up and latching the trapdoor. She had her back to Radek and didn't notice him at first, instead sitting down on the bed and sighing. When she did see the other Argonian, she screamed loudly and scuttled backwards on her bed. "Who.. who are you? You're.. you're not gonna hurt me are you? Please, I don't wanna die! I.. no.. don't hurt me.."

In her panic, she'd forgotten the usual guise she used with strangers. She didn't care right now, though, since she was sure this man was going to do something awful to her.
