The death of an opponent

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:32 pm

No I was just thinking, what if, instead of enemies having a health bar.. they just didn't... I'm saying what if you could easily or not so easily identify and enemies condition by how they are now staggering, limping, screaming, crouching, or bleeding..a lot. I know that takes away from the traditional rpg concept of health or status bars. I know it's a lot to ask. But wouldn't that be an interesting way to fight?

I.E. : a common raider is just another human being, not that tough, limbs can easily be dismembered from a high caliber weapon or with a heavy blade. Should be pretty easy to hurt them quick.

Now on the other hand with supermutants.. these "animals". Now they could take a beating without giving up. These studs have been around awhile, and seen everything from a more lurk to a death claw. Even after a dismemberment these creatures will continue to fight based off pain tolerances and not having a human concioused mind anymore.

Just a cool topic to discuss, asking whether is strays to far from tradition. Or a spark for someone to mod.

Meh to me its a classic case of if it ain't broke don't fix it, there is a reason your typical HP system is so common in games, its easy to grasp, its easy to use as a gauge and it doesn't take to much fuzz and brainpower, innovation just for innovation sake is no real reason to do it.

I wanna shot off a Raider's leg and leave him there to bleed out. He can scream all he wants for help, the only thing that will hear him are the Rad-Scorpions nearby.

But isn't innovation everything. Let's take the original GM 350 v8 small block. Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Now look at the modern day engine. Fuel injected computer controlled. Someone had the innovation and idea to make that happen. What if the health bar disappears intirely now because someone reads this topic. The Fallout series has always been a go to and a favorite of mine. I honestly think they are the most realistic games for me. TES series is cool and all but it's fantasy. Sci-fi always have a chance of non-fiction.

Would not seeing your HUD engulf you into the game more? Now see what if even more you had to look at your pip boy for your own status, map, and compass (given you can access this much more quickly, smoothly, or a glance rather than opening the interface)

Interesting way of doing it. It could be ok if done right I think. Although when in VATS it's nice to see health of different body parts.

I implement mods to do all of those things. Every element of the HUD should be completely customizeable. Alas, we get the option to turn the HUD completely off and toggle the crosshair.

Every game I play, the enemy always has an animation tell. I want my characters to react to the gameworld and not have to stare at a minimap.

Well there's the solution to seeing the health and status bars of an enemy. Check with vats. But I'm hoping for a chootemup till they're either done screaming or motionless. Real war is gore galore. It's rated m for a reason.

EDIT: And the reason I never turned my crosshair off is because of the shifty motion when digging through the rubble. I could've if there was a separate hand only crosshair when scavengING the wastes. Now for firearm use, iron sights/scopes only. If I spray I pray..

Yes...

....I honestly support ideas like this, rpg's that go his rout in a more realistic ways is always a step to a right direction.

I have no problem with this, if it's done right.

Clearly you haven't played Monster Hunter.

No enemy health bar quickly goes from "imershun" to "oh my god will you die already".

That's why visible wounds, sounds, and animations would be included. I wasn't sayin that the enemy keeps rushing you, or continues shooting at you. Say you and I are shooting at eachother, if either of us are hit, I'm sure the other would know. Doesn't take a lot of blood loss for someone to pass out or faint... doesn't take much for someone that gets shot to get scared and try to run away.

Edit: and clearly this isn't a nintendo ds game. The consoles are beyond capable of producing results for animations and AI response.
