Is the 1h decapitation perk annoying?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 9:56 pm

My character has 4 perks waiting to be used. The first perk allows a double-critical attack when sprinting. The other perk increases standing power attacks with 25% damage and allows decapitation or dismemberment. I didn't like the way Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas presented this, and neither did many FO players. Considering this, is it annoying in Skyrim?

I want the 25% damage bonus, but not when it's going to interfere with combat and give me ridiculous visuals.

I haven't seen it in action, so I don't know what the in-game animation looks like, but couldn't a mace simply knock off a person's head with a strong enough sideways sweep? Makes sense to me.

does it do the same animation as swords/axes?

i was really hoping if you did it with a mace, then you would thwack them in the head and it goes flying away

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "I'll knock your block off" lol
But no they aren't frequent enough to annoy and they are fairly short and sweet, fairly well done with a bit of variety and don't interrupt gameplay to much plus you feel like a total badass when you lop the head off the dungeon boss :D

No, the mace passed across thier throats like a sword would, and BAM... head comes off.. It's not so bad with the orcish mace, because it has blades on the side... but come on...

The "one" thing? Because ignoring armor (with perks) is not enough? That is an awesome perk right there.

Losing a head to a mace makes more sense than losing a head to a bullet fired from a pistol. (Lookin at you Fallout 3...) I won't be playing Skyrim again till after the upcoming patch, but hopefully there will be a way/mod to disable the head loss (without breaking the start of the game)

You have REALLY watched too many movies.

With my idea, I was really considering the fact that the player character represents someone of unusually effective knowledge of how to cause destruction with their weapon. I expect the he/she will understand how to synergize the movements of their body to multiply the impact force to awe-inspiringly high levels. No, I don't expect the normal swing of a mace to lop someone's head off.

Though, now that you've made me reconsider, it does seem much more likely that the body would fly away from you before the head separated. And even more likely that the head would explode before simply leaving the body. Good point, maybe I have seen too many movies, lol.

I'm glad that you added this bit. I have no doubt that you could break someone's neck with a swing from a mace and destroy their skull, but the fact the head is held on pretty damn well with a lot of strong and flexible tissue means you're not going to knock it clean off without some velocity of which humans simply aren't capable.

I dual wield, and I've only seen the decapitation once on that character. It was actually very well done, and I squeeled with excitement as the orc's head rolled down the dungeon's stairs. It was a magical moment.

Not sure what it looks like without dual wielding. Decapitations are more prominent with my 2h warrior, and that got old pretty quick.

It isnt as stupidly slow as fallout kill cam so you aren't taking hits for nothing if that's what you are asking.

I looks pretty sweet with a twohanded warhammer, a hit to the belly so the person bents over, then a over head hit to the back of the neck.

Its no where as bad as fallout, and isnt as annoying as the bloody mess perk, is see the head roll 1 in 10 finishing moves.

The finisher on bears annoy me more, since he miss with the hammer part, and basically hits the bears open mouth with the handle of the warhammer.

It is much better than fallouts ridiculousness if thats what you mean. It doesnt happen all the time and when it does you get a sick sense of satisfaction with the finisher like a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0DdtTw_Cxc decapitation rather than fallouts "oh look ANOTHER head exploded from shooting a .22 at it....yeah, wooooooo..."

It's more likely that you'd compleley destroy someones head with a mace while it's still attached. If the head were to explode instead of seperate intact from the neck in the animation, then maces would be an excellent 1h weapon.

I suggest watching either Ironclad or The Black Death, both movies have realistic (and explicitly gory) weapon impact effects (watch Ironclad if you like 2h swords... Trust me ;))

Actually the animation is infrequent enough to be really cool when it happens. The game also seems to use it for harder opponents, and I can tell you that it is truly satisfying.
