The E3 Demo Gameplay Customization Delay

I know EVERYONE has seen this video. It's awesome. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by posting the link. But if you notice the delay that happens between selecting things and it actually showing up on the model. Do you think it's got something to do with in game server and playing with others? Or maybe it's just that it's an incomplete version of the game? I'm hoping since I will rip the game to my console I won't have any delays like that as waiting 2 or three seconds to look at each color change or minor selection would get annoying after a while.

Anyone have some insight into this?

By the way if you haven't seen the video watch the whole thing it's awesome.

Edit: The menu system is nice and slick BTW.

Character customization should not be going through the server. I think it's just slow loading from dischard drive. x_x

Yeah I figured. I hope they have that streamlined and instantaneous by launch. The menu system is pretty smooth and clean looking.

To be honest, i havent, thank you for showing me! :)

and yes i can see the delay as well. Very obviously, i would imagine its just a bug in the game at that point in production. Hopefully will be fixed. If not, i hope it gets fixed once i install it on my hard drive!

One thing that confuses me, is no apparent colour organizing system. It's like beige, dark colour, dark colour, beige, red, brown, beige.
I just don't see any kind of organization with the colour. Hopefully they will change that.

When I played it had delays too, couldn't be bothered setting char up just wanted to play ^.^ some games do have delays when customising tho, especially with so many options. It wasn't as long as in video but there was delays.

Atleast each faction has somewhat its own colors.

The menu is lookin' slick. Those delays really are a turn-off though but I'm sure it won't be so bad once the game is out

Eh, 1-3 seconds delay for the clothing to pop up on your character does'nt bother me really, it's still pretty fast :P

Just one thing I don't really understand.. You can change texture and colouring, or is it the same? I mean at 0:43 he changes the colour of his shirt, and it turns striped red and gray, can I have that pattern in let's say.. Blue?

And in some other video, he turns the Voice shirt into green camo, can I have that in red?

EDIT:

I just noticed that in the video, when he plants the HI-Charge, he does'nt have the new clothing he just customized, is this becuase it's not finished?

Some textures are changed when you change color. You most likely won't be able to get a red camo. Yes, it's just because it's not finished.

But there will probably be something everyone likes, one thing too.. You were able to customzie your pants with colours and textures too, right?

I'm excited that you can even change all the colors and such. Whether it's a rendered preset or not.

Yeah, that is pretty nice, being able to change every item to another texture.

I still hope I can get a flannel shirt without ripped arms :l

Almost all of the demos we have seen so far are from the various expos. So it could be possible that the game was running on one server-system and had clients running on the playing-systems. That way there would be almost lag-free gaming on the expos and people would get a perfect gaming-experience.
However, all the customisation would have to be "requested" from the server as well, so there would be a small delay for such a thing.

Also if you watch some other customisation videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0Y1YrX9Tqc&#t=3m43s for exmaple), you'll see it changes much faster, because the game is running on the "showcase-system".

I just don't see any kind of organization with the colour. Hopefully they will change that.

There is rather a style-selection, than a colur-selection.

For example, there is a security mask (I think it is "The Look"), which drastically changes styles with different "colour"-selections.

... actually found it: http://features.cgsociety.org/stories/2010_11/brink/im26.jpg. There are similar ones (e.g. http://brink.chefenco.com/files/2010/03/brink_characters.jpg), but the one of "The Look" does represent this colour/style change thing very well.

It was already addressed why this was. It was a combination of 1) an early build and 2) the system it was being played on.

At the time, the console versions were not optimized yet, so things like load items were still really slow, BUT they wanted to showcase the PS3 version, so they made do with what they had. Had it been the PC version (like in virtually every other expo) everything would have been much smoother.

Wrong. I played the PC version and I actually went into the customisation first (because some other guy crashed his PC by skipping the intro-cinematic ) and it was delayed.

Well, according to people that have played it on PC at QuakeCon and EGE over on the SD forums, you seem to be the odd man out.

Here is some in0game footage (crappy quality) from EGE. You can see that the options load much faster, and there is barely any delay. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zltY-yXEOk#t=1m39s

REVO that "showcase system" is OLD and not even in use anymore. I mean the interface. It looks more like the E3 video now

I've heard atleast four different voices, ''American'' being one of them

Jamaican(?) - ''I'm hacking the ventilation system, cover me!'' - When hacking

American(?) - ''get some'' - When handing out ammo

Russian(?) - ''taking fire'' - From the Container City Preview

British(?) - ''yeah, but it was'nt incoming'' - From the Container City Preview

But this one ''MULTIPLE ENEMIES SPOTTED!'' what is that? Jamaican?

I really hope they get a lot more voice recorded to vary the things said AND inflection. And give the illusion that not everyone sounds EXACTLY the same. Because that could be annoying. I heard "mucho bad guys spotted" many times.

As long as they are all speaking the same language. It frustrates me to no end when I'm playing BFBC2 and my toon spouts some nonsense instead of telling my team their is a tank comin'
