To the dev : Plans on anticheating?

Post » Sat Oct 16, 2010 4:05 pm

Just wanted to know what you guys plan on using as an anticheat program?

Punkbuster or what? Thanks.

We all hate to think about it but there will be hackers in the game like every other one. Hopefully a dev console can help people who own servers keep them banned. :(

its better for us not to know what system they use because there are ways around every system so if we dont know its even harder to hack

Just play on a well admin'ed server, best way of keeping cheaters away for the time being. Don't think we'll get any good anti cheat any time soon, hope I'm proved wrong though.

VAC is probably the best. Past VAC bans carry over too if i'm not mistaken.

Yes they do. You're banned from one... you're banned from them all.

I don't think they will be lot of those type of people in this game, since the game is not doing leaderboards, KD ratios and 1 Shot Headshots snipers, etc.

Good point, but aimbotters will still ruin the game along with wall hackers. A wall hacker alone takes counters 2 things. The light model classes who plan on doing alot of flanking and the spec class.

Valve Anti-Cheat. If it finds a hack installed on your computer (Doesn't even have to be running), it'll ban you forever.

The trick is that it takes an unreleased amount of time - around a few weeks - to ban you. This way, hack makers don't know what got through the radar and what didn't.

Ahh welcome to the FPS genre.

Back in the days of Counter-Strike, Quake, Doom, etc, there were no leaderboards - at all - It was a different time, but were there hacks? In abundance, yes, it may seem counter-intuitive to some, but most hackers aren't in it for their recorded heroics, no! They just liked what they view(ed) as being better than other people. Generally hackers are the lesser abled players, the kids that would be picked on in school, who are prone to failure, and rather then adjusting to their social surroundings, they simply get angry, bitter, and form false rationalizations regarding all things, becoming even more pathetic. This is the hacker.

It's a sad downwards spiral of despair and loneliness for these people folks. As long as we have people that excel, there will be people that inversely fail.

Well, then theres my sad truth. Getting a VAC banned account without me even hacking on it.
Valve wouldn't give me my status back, so Ive got a useless account.

Thats even more fail. Had somewhere around 300 steam friends and lots of games.
I honestly don't trust VAC security at all. Once you're banned, thats it.

I can play Black Ops though, not sure why it didn't carry over there.

Edit: is it possible for VAC to see a program in the bg running as a hack when its not even effecting the steam files?

Good thing there are no hackers on PS3 and Xbox360 (don't really know for xbox) except TF2 on the orange box for ps3 where people who have Gmod and TF2 on their computer could put some files or something on a disk drive thing and put it into the ps3 and then make walls and fly around and change players colours and crap like that, hackers make me a sad panda..... :homestar:

I'm fairly sure VAC only bans you from playing MP in the game you got caught in.

Valve's very secretive about how VAC works, I'm afraid. I suppose that's to surpress hack makers.

I'd have to say yes. Based on the earlier comment about it scanning your system for hack programs that are installed, presumably it could get a "false positive". I knew a girl in school who lost her Internet access when she installed some network testing software we were using at school. They assumed it was for hacking purposes. Not the same but point is they could see a legit program running and think you are using it for nefarious purposes. And of course they can't tell you as it would be a piece of info for the hackers to use to try and break the system.

i dont know about VAC, cause i dont use anything with it. but there is a program that i use, that i had to uninstall (later on i changed some registry files instead) because the anticheat service for a game i was playing wouldnt let me load the game because it could see it on my system.

basically "that software is built and mainly used for cheating on games, so get rid of it if you want to play!"

You do realize PS3 and 360 have hackers right?
360 has more though.
Sony recently sent a police raid to a PS3 hackers house to stop him, too late i'm afraid. He released his PS3 crack about an hour before they arrived.

Tell me about it, you know the MW2 hacks have gotten so bad that it's to the point where the hacker can make you unable to connect back to the servers for an undisclosed amount of time? Not sure how Black Ops is doing with hackers. Only game I've seen hackers in.
