The Diablo thread

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 4:54 pm

All I know is Blizzard makes good games. That simple. So even if Diablo III turns out to be quite different from its predecessors, I'm sure it will still be a good game. :)

Prior to Oblivion, Bethesda only made good games. Prior to Might and Magic IX, 3DO only made good games. Either you haven't been around long enough to have your heart smashed by a designer you love, or you're just lucky to have a more universal taste for video games than I do. ;^)

All I'm saying is I see absolutely no reason that an oldschool loyal fan of the Diablo series should expect Diablo III to be a good addition to the Diablo universe. I'm not saying that it won't be, how the heck would I know? But there is absolutely nothing indicating that it should be. However, I see no reason to doubt that a Blizzard fan like yourself will be fully satisfied with the game and get hours of enjoyment from it. :^)

Post-it's or and electronic calendar that reminds you a day before

That's not recovering a deleted account, that's logging in to prevent it being deleted :)

They should never be deleted anyway. I think EQ still has my old characters from 8-9 years ago. I don't see why they have to regularly delete D2 characters or even accounts.

I didn't want to make a new thread, so hopefully this is the right place to do this. I have a few questions to ask.

Yes, I fianlly found my Lord of Destrcution cd and key. I can finally play again. I don't like playing Diablo II without LoD. So after reading the past Diablo II threads I wanted to play but coudln't because I couldn't find my cd. Well I found it and installed it. Yeah for me.

I do not like playing online. I just play alone. I tried it online and didn't like the experiance. The only time I went online was to try and drop some items I found, exit out, and come back in again so another character I made could use that item. Lots of times people steal the stuff, so I hate playing online.

I found an editor along time ago that let me make my own things. Well I only used it if I found something with one character say the soreceress and she found something that my necromance could use, then I would use the editor to make it, since I found it with my sorceress. Since I havn't played in a long time, does anyone know what I am talking about or know of any good editors?

I don't know how people "mule" characters on one computer so I could never do this and had to use the editor.

So can anyone help me here? Also since it's been years since I played, and good tips or hints that I should know of? I just downloaded the latestet patch 1.13. I am still shocked that Diablo II is still getting support. I will defintenlty be getting Diablo III. I just hope my computer can run it.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.

No I feel I can be part of the discussion here now. :)

How do I do the players X command? I hit enter and typed it in but I can't remeber if I am suppose to get a confirmation if I did it correctly or not. Am I suppose to adjust an .ini file or something? I do not remember since it's been so long since I played.

Also I installed the game, but I just used the LoD patch. I didn't patch up DII because I am only using LoD. Should I update that as well or if I am not playing LoD I do not need to update DII?

Hit 'Enter' then type: /players1
Obviously, exchange the 1 with any number from 1-8, depending on how much you'd like to scale the difficulty.

As for the patching question: no. If you fully installed Diablo II then installed Lord of Destruction on top of that, then all you need to do is log on and try to connect to Battle.net -- it'll check your versions and update you to the lastest, 1.13

I just found and installed the other day the http://phrozenkeep.hugelaser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=133&t=56527 for single player. It's easily the best thing for single player I've ever seen if you aren't looking for a total conversion. It gives you infinite personal storage space, infinite shared storage space between all your characters, lets you use ladder-only runewords, adds the ubers, adds uber tristram (although the maker said it does not work like online yet), lets you reassign stats and skills, and gives you other options.

The only option I changed in it's .ini file is /players 8 so I don't have to type it in all the time, but there's other options like making it regenerate the maps every game like online etc.

I don't know how I ever played single player without it. It's everything single player should always have been.

Brother! I too prefer single player to online. Single player is a challenge, it requires you to plan ahead, think and solve problems, whereas online play is mostly mindless grinding. No, I don't want a rush. No, I'm not interested in your damn leveling services! Give me a battle axe and a briast plate and tell me where I can find something to kill, thankyouverymuch!

Aaaaaaah!! Thank you! My brother and I found that thread one day a few months ago but somehow we lost track of it and never got the mod. What a pleasant surprise to find a link to it posted here! :^)

It was an even more pleasant surprise to me when I found it completely by accident while looking up mods that increased storage space to offset not having mule characters.

I have an old mod that (Still works with 1.13 despite being a 1.05 mod) that gives you a huge inventory and Cube space. Called Packrat mod.

Ah thank you, so I forgot the / when I was typing it. Thanks, I was playing with 8 players till level 10, but now the game is getting a bit hard so I had to go back to 1 player now. "7

Thanks I will check it out. So are you telling my what ever my Necromancer finds, I can give it to my other character the sorceress?

What characters do you play and why? I like the sorceress because of the magic spells, and I like the Necromancer for having minions. I tried the Assasin, but I guess I svck to much because I can never do the combo to get the combo attacks set off properly.

One more question. How many curses can the Necromancer cast? I tried casting the one where you weaken them so they don't do so much damage to you, then I would cast the curse where I do more damage to them. But I see the fire over their heads, I am thinking one replaces the other. Does this happen, or do they suffer both?

Ok, I installed the Plug Y mod. How do I use it? I do not see where I can adjust things or change settings.

*edit* Ok I think I know how to change settings, I will just leave them so nothing gets screwed up. My question I have is, how to I trade say what the Necromancer found and give it to the Sorceress? I found a few things and my Necromancer sold it since it took up too much space (well not an issue now :)) so how can I give it to the soreceress now?

Praise Mephisto, IMO the most powerful of the three. Maybe not physically, but he corrupted the holier than thou order of Sanctuary, he's also the oldest and smartest Prime Evil.

Interesting. How do you do it? My old account doesn't seem to exist anymore and I don't want to bother leveling another character only to have it deleted again.

Mind you, I can go months if not a whole year or more without playing Diablo 2.

You just need to select your "deleted" character and hope that no one has made character named as it while it was deleted. AFAIK.

Open up the stash and in the bottom left corner is a chest icon. click on it and it will open. Now place your item(s) in the gird there and then Save & Quit and start up your sorc. Now go to the stash and click the chest button and there they are.

Edit: Edited for clarity

There's a small icon bottom left when you open your stash that lets you switch between personal and shared stash. In the .ini I also changed it so it starts with /players 8 by default, because anything else is too easy and you get more drops. I do have to say though that act bosses are TOUGH! Omg I couldn't even get past Lister and the other minions last night on normal difficulty without spending forever isolating 1 at a time and slowly killing it. Baal was even worse. I'm level 46 on normal difficulty and it was that tough.

I'm playing a frozen orb/hydra sorc at the moment. I always liked the idea of hydra, used it online but it wasn't so great, but 1.13 buffed hydra so I'm trying it out. If at the end it still doesn't perform, I'll respec to frozen orb/meteor.

I'm also trying real hard to like the act 5 barbarian mercs, but compared to act 2 they still aren't that great. The one failing with Diablo 2 is the imbalance between mercs. Act 1 can be useful, act 3 are never useful, act 5 are sometimes useful, but act 2 are simply the best for any build. You can't beat the utility of their auras.

My favorite build is a skelemancer. You can only apply 1 curse at a time, they overwrite each other. Always use amplify damage on regular monsters, decrepify on bosses. Get an act2 nightmare offensive merc for the Might aura. Max raise skeleton first, skeletal mastery 2nd, possibly raise skeletal mage (I like them but others don't), and some summon resist. You don't need more than 1 point in any curse, and you might want some corpse explosion. That's it.

You just need to select your "deleted" character and hope that no one has made character named as it while it was deleted. AFAIK.

My account is gone is the problem. I haven't used it in well over a year, maybe longer. I read that maintenance will delete inactive accounts so I won't be playing online anymore because I don't want to worry about logging in every once in a while to make sure things don't get deleted.

Diablo 3 better not be the same!

I only know of how to mule items online.

Perm a game with password, make a game with a password (normal difficulty, open to all levels), wait in it for 10 minutes then exit game and reenter to make sure its still there, then drop items and quit and join with he character you want to take the items. Or, you could pm a friend or someone on here to stay in a game while you drop and xfer or they could hold onto the items.

I'm playing a frozen orb/hydra sorc at the moment. I always liked the idea of hydra, used it online but it wasn't so great, but 1.13 buffed hydra so I'm trying it out. If at the end it still doesn't perform, I'll respec to frozen orb/meteor.

Hydras can own in PVP. I use a doom runeword with my hydra sorc when in pub duels. The doom has a holy freeze aura so enemies get slowed down and trapped in the middle of hydras :flamethrower:

You need really good gear in order for those mercs to be real effective, act 5 that is, well all of em. Act 2 is easy and the polearms have good runewords.

I also like the skelemancer, my skelemancers also has poison nova (maxed with synergies maxed), I can tele, shoot poison and curse and the summons will take damage.

I'm gonna try a poisonmancer I think. There's so many characters I need to try, actually all but skelemancers and orb/meteor/hydra sorceresses. No PvP though since it's just single player.

I currently use ATMA V for moving items between characters in single player. Should I just delete ATMA V and use PlugY mod instead and does PlugY mod work with Win98se? I use my Win98 machine to play Diablo.

I don't think win98 matters, but I would definitely get PlugY. It has so much more than just the storage.

I love the Y mod, thanks again. I love this mod so much now. I hate finding things and can't keep them just because there is no space. Now I can.

At first even playing a /players 8, I thought this game was easy. Well now I am playing at /playes 1. Well I think I am, I am finding this game so hard now. When playing with the Y mod, is it set to players 1 or players 8 each time you start a new game?

One more other question. I am about to imbue my weapon. From last experiance I saved my files just in case I click on something by accident. Well I am playing a Necromancer right now. I love using Poison dagger magic spell. Thing is, I only have a crappy Dagger. When I imbue a dagger, it still svcks. I don't ever rememeber my dagger svcking so bad. Should I save my imbue and get a better dagger later, or should I imube another weapon say a sword or what not and use that for the Necromancer and forget about the poison dagger?
