The DLC is like fallout

Post » Wed Aug 31, 2011 4:34 pm

I hated the mini expansions on Oblivion since most were all just new houses ect, Mehrunes Razor addon was great though 'gonna miss that bladeturn hood!' but if they make Skyrims dlc like the Shivering Isles then hell yeah! The Shivering Isles is a perfect example of what they should aim for =D Fallout 3 addons were a good size too, but were kinda... Bland... But then a wasteland is kinda bland.... Meh, it was a depressing game :sadvaultboy:

The Wizard's Tower, Fighter's Stronghold, Vile Lair, and Thieves Den plug-ins(all of which are sold separately and cost about $2.00 each).

Oh, boy do I feel stupid now. I hadn't realized all those DLC packs added up to 7 new places to live.

Battlehorn Castle's a cool house for fighters, nobles, and Daggerfall fans.

Frostcrag Spire's a magical house for reclusive wizards.

Deepscorn Hollow's for evilTM people

And Dunbarrow Cove is for Piratey Thieves... I had them all, but then had to change my computer, and am not sure how to transfer them :(

I'd like the best of both, Bethesda need to get on their Hovis game.

Start off with 4-5 "The Pitt" style adventures then drop a Shivering Isles bomb on the DLC market.

I liked the Oblivion small "house" DLC: Unlike the one-off bonuses of the Fallout DLC that may have given lasting bonuses, but not lasting scenery, they kept on giving, being an active role in a player's game.

That DLC is going to lean towards small self-contained missions (which New Vegas went with as well to my understanding) or full on expansions is a good thing as long as Skyrim doesn't need it's own Broken Steel. They were self contained adventures that allowed the player better access to the lore, and also gave the player something new to do. It would also be nice if they did something similar, and had the player eventually grant ownership of the adventure area, ala Mothership Zeta, as long as it's not one tiny room with a single chest and a bed not designed for you. It'd kill two birds with one stone.

IMO, I think what Matt mean't was maybe that the DLC would be in different locations, not talking about the size. From the countless Todd interviews, hes sad that the DLC would be more of Shivering Isles style but on the different places like Fallout 3 did.

I hope that's it because i don't want small stupid DLC i want huge ones like shivering isles and i thought todd already said that but this interview is the exact opposite.. I thought more people would want large expansions over small DLC but i was wrong

They said these DLC would be fewer but bigger. Kinda like the expansion packs of olden times. I like that.

Why would Bethesda release a 30+ hour expansion pack for $30 when they can release five or so 2-4 hour DLCs for $10 a piece and the brainwashed masses will still eat it up? They simply realize that there's a much bigger profit margin in small DLCs. And there's no way to fight it because people are going to keep buying into the gravy train. And meanwhile, Bethesda employees smugly chuckle about how people are still buying Horse Armor. Those silly little peasants.

Something between Fallout 3 DLC and the Oblivion expansion Shivering Isles would be ideal, and it sounds like that's what we're getting.

I would rather pay for Fallout sized DLC than the Oblivion DLC, which was too small. The exception being Shivering Isles, as it did feel you were getting some value for your money.

Personally i think there should be Expansions and Smaller DLC but the DLC should A) be very cheap or B) come free with an expansion

I actually liked the idea behind plug ins and their way to expand RPing while giving you more tools to RP with. Hopefully the DLCs are like that as well. Geared towards expanding certain RPS etc.

Hines said that DLCs will be more GTA-style. Which is much better then F3 I guess.

And the only thing that made the Fighter's Stronghold good was it included an homage to Daggerfall and gave you a firebreathing sword...

Er... The two things that made Fighter's Stronghold any good was the overall homage to daggerfall, firebreathing sword, and cool mini-dungeon to explore.

Sorry... Only the three things that made Fighter's Stronghold any good were the overall homage to Daggerfall, firebreathing sword, cool mini-dungeon to explore, and badass castle to call your own.

Erm... let me leave and try this again.

And a nice red uniform - oh, damn!

OT: I thought fallout 3 DLCs were very good. In fact I preferred Broken Steel to KotN.

Have to agree with this. Extra factions are always good. Bards, necromancers, pirates, whatever, a fully fledged questline, and a guild headquarters, maybe a new player home thrown in, that is worth the price of admission; a player home with no quest, or let's face it a joke quest, much less so.
As far as size for extra content, KotN and Unearthing were kind of ok, but if you are adding new lands, if SI is too ambitious, then Point Lookout sounds pretty acceptable. Wouldn't see me complaining.

Just a simple question, from a simple person. Why are we discussing DLC when Skyrim hasn't even been released yet?? Dont get me wrong I am looking forward to everything to do with this game but I cant see the point of discussing DLC at this moment in time

I notice a lot of you people are confusing DLC with expansion packs. Spell tombs, horse armor, and the houses had been DLC. The Shivering Isles and Knights of the 9 are expansion packs.
