The downfall of Brink/Bethesda

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2011 1:35 am

At first:

I love the old games like ET:QW and Wolfenstein. They did a great job there.

I was hyped as well as they announced Brink. The first gameplay-videos looked pretty good.

The core-features are still god, but bad is... a buged game.

I can only talk about the PC-version, cause i will never play a shooter with a pad... :whisper:

We all know the broken parts, so i dont tell the whole story onemore.

- some ATI-users even CANT play till now
- there is lag - sometimes more, sometimes less
- soundbug

(Terrible weaponbalance, poor mapdesign and stuff like that is another story and not part of "broken core-mechanics").

There was a epic-patch which should fix the soundbug and improve the performance... to bad it wasnt working for much players.

really devoted fan-question: Why did you post this? We all know the game is broken/unfinished!

Answer: I hope some guys read this and dont support a company like Bethesda anymore (and im at work and have some time - i work for Bethesda, so there is nothing to do right now, cause we almost have youre money :wavey: )!

@ DLC

Announcement last year: "Brink will be released with 10 multiplayer-maps"

True story: Brink wasnt released with 10 multiplayers-maps!

So, where are the missing maps?!

You will get them now as supa-imba-11-FREE-DLC!!! (normally you should pay for the DLC, but the game is to broken - thats the story about the supa-imba-11-FREE-DLC!!!).

A fact that puts a smile at my face is the steam-statistics: http://store.steampowered.com/stats/?snr=1_4_4__110

Release-week: Peak = 12-14 k users playing at once

Second-week: Peak = 8-10 k users playing at once

Third week: Peak = 3-5 k users playing at once

Today: Peak = 3,9 k users playing at once

ATM: 1013 user playing Brink

:swear: :toughninja: :gun: -----> Very nice!!! Bethesda, the community have spoken!!! <----- :gun: :toughninja: :swear:

EDIT: If you cant get enough of broken games, jump over to "The Hunted"-forum (Bethesda as well). Multiplayers isnt working as well. :celebration:

Thank you so much for your post !
Apart from the terrible spelling and the partly nonsensical text it was a fun read. Especially funny is the part where you, a common mistake, think your own oppinion reflects some kind of absolute truth we all have to accept.

I do feel sorry (honestly now) that you did not get what you wanted from Brink, i for myself am having fun. The only thing i find disturbing is the following things:

1) Consumer Lemmings that do not buy Brink because of bad Metascores...
...which it got because of...
2) ...some people that seem unable to distinguish between "personal oppinion" and "absolute truth"

Yes, it has technical flaws, none that ever stopped me from playing though. The soundbug was annoying but got fixed. (At least i never ad it anymore and i play every day)
It also has some desing flaws, most of which are down to my taste.

So long story short, i already preordered Hunted, i enjoyed Bethesda games in the past, i enjoy them now and i see no reason to not do so in the future.
Others will differ and that is great but the Witchhunt going on on some forums is just plain stupid.

This pretty much says everything about the state of the game.

The game could be so glorious but it is a unfinished, untested piece of crap.

That's why people leave.

Skyrim and Rage Pre orders are cancelled.Bethesda can shove it.

I am really sad about the state of this and how bungled the release has been on PC.

Let me tell you, on the PC there just aren't a lot of good FPS games released anymore.

I think it's got a lot to do with the death of the dedicated server and sloppy port-itis but there is a big PC shooter market eager for proper releases to play.

On forums I frequent it seems like we're all playing Bad Company 2 because it's one of the few properly featured shooters out. Nobody is even talking about CoD5 or 6. For those of us in PC land they are pretty much nonevents (Peer-to-Peer? ur mom is Peer-to-Peer).

I see no reason why a game with as much going for it as Brink shouldn't be a raging success but I am a bit astonished at some of the problems that have been allowed to happen with the release.

The ATI thing. The sound bug. The incredibly terrible server browser. Brink is still saying this when I shop for it on steam:

Home > Oops
Oops, sorry!

Make no mistake, I really dig Brink and I think with a few tweaks it could be awesome but it's gonna take 3-4 maps in that DLC and a second sales push ("Brink! Now it's like we want you to play it!")

I'm happy with my purchase on PS3. It's been worth every cent, so I WILL continue to support Bethesda, thank you very much. I don't seem to be having any of these problems you list, neither the "core-mechanics" or your opinionated flaws.

EDIT: I apologise on behalf of the poster below me.

First: Brink is one of the best Shooters I ever played
Second: The Map Design is awesome
Third: The Weapons are well balanced and work well
Fourth: @PAX, the Game Rules, go and play CoD or whatever... oh and S:T:F:U:

Guess I'm lucky I own an Nvidia card. The only issue I've had is the sound bug which got patched away.
I've thouroughly enjoyed the game so far and look forward to more Brink in the future.

The lag you talk about is likely local internet. I have no lag, but then I only play on low ping servers. As for "broken core-mechanics" I completely disagree unless you can come up with an actual example.
Weapons seem fine and you can select what you want and what you don't. Classes are fine and each has it's uses. Maps are good: tight enough to stop snipefests and yet roomy enough to jump over and around things.

Announcement last year: "Brink will be released with 10 multiplayer-maps"

Can you back that up? Do you have a link? I don't remember them giving numbers other than the number of combinations for customisation.

EDIT: JesterSyxe, seriously? You couldn't have been civil about this? *facepalm*

Impersonating a developer is a serious offense.
