The Dragon Slayers Discussion Thread

Blech. Tired of fighting, tired of complaining. Glad noone took that to heart. I was PUA(Posting Under Anger), please disregard.

I was right about the weight of the Wood though, wood is porous instead of solid, which makes it both resistant to impact and lighter than comparable metal. Also, don't count the Spear into the weight, as he was using it as a sort of walking stick, so if anything, it would counteract some of the weight. As far as the Khajiit thing, it wasn't just the fur and climate deal, he's carrying less than the rest of us. Also, I never heard anything about horses from the GM or anyone else, so I assumed we were walking it.

I was mildly confused as to why anyone would walk that distance when they are sent by a king. You'd think he would have provided horses to begin with...

Anyway, I commend you for editing your post, Sannes. Thank you for withdrawing your statement, I'm glad to see someone who can maturely deal with something even when they do not agree with it. I look forward to RPing with you

What kind of Knight doesn't have a Horse? :P Of course... why walk or ride when you can snowboard?

And because Wood's porous, it needs to be thicker than Steel (Even when alchemically treated) to offer a similar degree of protection. Unless there's some sort of treatment to make Silk as strong as steel as well. His steel plating's only about 3 mm thick. I doubt the wood's less than 5 mm thick.

It doesn't offer protection similar to steel. It is a compromise between weight and strength. Revis doesn't expect it to protect him entirely from a slice or bite from a dragon, he relies more on speed and maneuvering to keep himself alive, and relying on his more durable companions to take the brunt of the attacks while he deals damage from the rear with his bow, or, if possible, kill the things outright by impaling it on his spear. Alone, he would take on a creature with hit-and-run tactics and complicated traps, but, instead, he had you guys top bait it for him. Not that he thinks of you guys as glorified meatshields or anything, but functionally, you guys' are most useful for soaking up damage and creating holes in the creatures defenses.

I'm drawing all of this from all of the old-school party-based RPG's I play. Tough guys up front while more circumstantial damage dealers, "Glass Cannons" if you will, stay behind and wait for an opportunity, while dealing ranged damage to back up the main fighters. This is how I'm thinking it out.

I do not play WoW, but this is the best way to explain it. Hybrid means they can fill multiple roles besides those listed.
Xerca-Hybrid DPS/Support
Jarn-DPS/Aggro/Midrange Damage
Rex-DPS/Aggro
Tariq-Ranged Damage
Davian-DPS/Situational Damage/Hybrid
Revis-Situational Damage/Ranged Damage/Hybrid

Of course, that just my opinion based on what little I know about your characters.

Also, theres no way davian would know what Revis was thinking. Because he never voices his opinions, because he doesn't really talk all that much ,if you haven't noticed. So just cut that part out, kapish, and I'll edit my own post now that I know your on a horse, got it?

Oh, and shield snowboarding isn't HALF as cool as you think it is. Not nearly. In fact, it sounds very lame in type, like he's trying TOO hard to be cool. The rest of us are trying to be serious here. You can have some fun, but that doesn't mean every single post has to make your guy out to be Generic Fantasy Hero #3.

Done.

And on the second point... that's because to a degree, he is. He's a hot-blooded youth trying way too hard to live up to a legacy that's lasted and mutated over several centuries, with the deeds of some of his forebears being almagalated together. Yes, he can kill giants and Dreaugh... but there was One Hawkstar (Actually several, but who's really keeping track?) who killed over a dozen Ancient Liches! And was a Werewolf! And Fought off the Daedric Invasion at the end of the Third Era! and he could SHOOT FIREBALLS AND SPIT LIGHTNING!

So yeah, the kid's trying too hard.

Heh, 'ya know what, I'm just going to roll with it and pretend this is a Fantasy Character Party parody. We have the "Kill It and Eat Its Heart" orc warrior, the well intentioned dark-elf with nerves of steel leading the party(Drizzt, anyone?), The "Big Bad And Mean" Nord Warrior, giant frickin' claymore and all, the "Sneaky Cat-person Ranger", and of course, me, the "Dour, Possible Psychotic, Rarely-Speaking Wood Elf" Who is, at least, not cliche' when you consider that usually Wood Elves are played as either talkative idiots or Legolas Ripoffs.

Actually Tariq isn't a Ranger.. he's a Witchhunter, he only uses a bow because I practically stole the class buildt from Oblivion. And maybe I was too lazy to develop my own :P

Although a Witchhunter is kinda even more cliché since that's basically a professional monster hunter, alá the millions of demon/vampire/werewolf hunters, or in some stories 'witchers' that have sprung up throughout the decades of fantasy storytelling.

I actually like Revis, Davian too, he is, to me, a bit of a comic reliefe (no insults intended I just find him amusing :) )

From what I can tell, Davian is definitely at least partial comic relief, but with some actual ability to back it up, rather than just a complete fool. He's good, he just thinks he's a lot better than he is. Which makes sense given his ancestors. Revis knows the stories about the Earlier Hawkstar's, which is why he's so critical of Davian. Revis thinks that its all a bunch of played-up BS, and has no actual EVIDENCE the Davian is good at anything.

Davian Hawkstar's supposed to be be amusing, being a boisterous adventurer deconstructed/reconstructed to the point of parody. :P

It would be interesting if the previous Lord Hawkstar, Davian's father, were to show up (Current status: MIA, last seen in the Daggertail Mountain Range). He's like Davian Hawkstar with 19 more years of experience. Or, the Retired Lord Hawkstar, who's too old to "Keep up with the duties of Lordship", but not too old to keep kicking ass, despite being in his 70s. NONE of them have mellowed with age.

Though I've been requested not too do this sort of thing, I can't help but think in tropes when conceptualizing my characters. They've become ingrained into my subconscious: Davian Hawkstar is an exaggerated http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BoisterousBruiser (Note, TvTropes Link. Stay away if you favor your day.)

While Xerca may be cliche, atleast he's got a funky tattoo! What have your guys got? Hmm? Hmm?! : P

A slice my throat. From a Daedroth, that [censored] up my vocal cords and makes it sound like some sort of Eldritch Abomination is talking for me.

Yeah. TvTropes Will Ruin Your Life.

What can I say? That's how I roll. Although hopefully Rex will prove more interesting (and amusing) than your typical Orc warrior.

Ok. When I got home and saw the first part of this page, I was ready to kick some of you guys out of the RP to stop all this arguing, but after seeing you all can hold a reasonable well-thought discussion, it is all forgiven.

Anyhow, I'll try to get my character done today, and maybe add in a post for Bjordi once Darkom posts. This RP is going rather well. Keep it up.

PS: Kyrrin is joining the RP. Josh never sent in a character as of now, so I'll stick Kyrrin in the second group. His/Her character will arrive with Darknova's and Darkom's.

EDIT: I also added a new "groups section" to the OP. Check it out. I think it's pretty awesome.

I posted. Once again, Revis isn't one to contribute much to Idle conversation.

Hey, Darkom, is your character based off Hannibal Lector?

So that's what he was talking about when he told me "he basically stole the character"...

Okay, so we have whoever that guy is, Dragon Age quotes about cookies, and cannibalistic Bosmer. This is going to be fun.

PS: Kyrrin, Darkom, I'll get you guys into the OP asap.

Yes, as a matter of fact he is :P I made him almost right after reading the books, and I was thoroughly obsessed with him. People don't lie when they say he is one of the most well made characters ever :D I consider it more of a tribute than outright theft, but...

And I promise he'll be better soon, I didn't have much room for a good introduction :P I promise he will be much more interesting once Kyrill's character arrives ;) Me an Aulakauss had a Hannibal-Starlet thing going on in the last RP I used him, and his chivalrous charm quickly became a cornerstone of his character.

By the way, I didn't really have time to post it very well, but Surius exudes an air of sneakiness. He is greasy and carries an obviously fake smile, so characters used to human nobility will recognize his sleaze on sight :P

Well... when it comes to character inspirations... Davian Hawkstar's very much inspired by Duke Nukem and President Michael Wilson, for what it's worth.

EDIT: Oh yeah. He('s) also has/had quite a few Tiger motifs that I'm not quite sure how to emphasize, despite the animal in his name. Making it rather fiting that he'll be fighting Dragons. Except for his house's signature "Fire Damage on Touch" attack, which is a thinly-disguised Falcon Punch.

Kyrrin I don't know if Darkom basing his character off another one gave me this idea, but your char makes me think of Bilbo Baggins from the Hobbit. Especially since you used "Burglar" as the class and gave her a Mithril shirt....and the fact that she's going after a dragon's treasure :P

I'm not really sure how to imagine/envision the clawed boots (talons?) and gloves on Kordin.

Just look at the picture I linked on the armor section of his character sheet. You'll see it.
And also, in your post you were talking about being in Solstheim, or am I mistaken? Riverwood is in Skyrim. :P
