The Dragon War, documented

I hate self-invented lore. Or fan-fiction. How about talking about the actual Dragon War?

Not sure who the guys playing the dragons are, but the topic creator (who invited them) wrote "fan fiction" that made it's way into Skyrim. Towers, painted cows, ect.

These aren't really Elder Scrolls dragons... They're cool, but Elder Scrolls dragons aren't mountains covered in foliage or filled with acid... Not complaining. I wouldn't mind epic dragons in TES.
You do realize that the games do not represent the full extent of the lore, they are merely an approximation of what the current tech can render and what the creative director decides to include.

You do understand how the lore forum works, right? Devs and writers expand on the lore where the games left off. This is not fanfiction, but a filling in of the blanks by lore insiders through roleplaying.

Wise and mighty Dov, tell us more of ancient days.

Expanding on IMPLICATIONS in lore is one thing. Completely inventing things out of your ass and [censored] the mother of men is another.

The Dragon War is ancient and steeped in mystery, whose to say what did and did not occur. Perhaps this Dov is merely bitter towards Kyne because of her involvement in the war. Let us see what more is revealed before jumping to conclusions.

I read MKs forum posts, but I usually don't consider it lore. He's not really a dev anymore. I acknowledge that it could be lore, but it's "innocent until proven guilty". I like some of his stuff, and it expands the universe, but I know it could just be disproved in the next game. Kinda like game literature, but with slightly less weight because it's not actually in-game.

I like posts like this... where he gets into character.

This is the attitude you should take, I feel. Or at least one similar to it. I personally consider it lore, but will accept it as false if it's completely disproven. Though if possible I'd treat it as in-universe wrong, like many in-game books.

The ideas are cool, but I don't get how some people rage when something from an obscure text isn't in the game.

Fair enough. Heh..

Speaking of Kyne, do we even know why she got involved? I find this about as interesting as dragonrend.

There's a bit too much mystery in general though. I'm just coming off a "Game of Thrones" binge. It's almost all exposition and dialogue. I wish TES was written with more meat on it's bones, like that.

Kyne tends to give involved with Nordic affairs just as much as Shor (actually, she tends to become rather active whenever a Shezarrine is). Though since the dragons fought a whale - or whales - it suggests that much of the Nordic pantheon got involved.

Check out Hasphat's post. All existing implications, and some fascinating interpretations.

Then how about Akatosh? Everything is leading me to believe he's needs to die. And the rest of the divines think as much as well.

I'd like to think I went wrong somewhere though.

Nords didn't like Akatosh much at all.

Their gods probably agree, especially since Shor wants to preserve the kalpa.

Froki in Skyrim says that Kyne is Shor's widow, so it makes since that she gets involved when Shezarrines start showing up.

Also, Pelinal, incarnation of Shor, was best friends with Morihaus, the son of Kyne.

Yeah. Stupid CHIM, stupid Towers, stupid Great War, stupid White-Gold Concordat. Damn that lumpy Greybeard Elk and the fanfiction that he wrote that somehow made it into the games. Obviously it's still fanfiction, and nothing that lumpy Elk writes is 'canonical'.

If you could suspend your disdain for 'fan fiction' for a few moments, you might find in my sig a TES to your beefy taste.

I'm not talking about the "lumpy elk". I'm just getting annoyed by the dragons. The only post I've paid attention from Elk is the OP.

Or is he posting as the dragons too?

In any case, I had no idea he was part of the development team (if I heard correctly). I'm confused now. Last I checked, that doesn't fall under the category of fan fiction.

That's the working theory.

The original poster is an ex-dev, but one whose work still strongly influences the series. Hasphat is a current (as far as I know) dev.

As for me, I'm really enjoying the dragons.

She's all three womans. The DMK, remember?

Either that, or Mara and Dibella chanced an inverso-butch on the elves and completed the DMK in Pelinal and Morihaus. Or something of the two.

She received visions and Mor from Kinareth, so she must be Kine Daughter of Kyne.
