So.. the dragonborn is from cyrodiil.

Post » Tue Dec 24, 2013 3:04 pm

Obvously the whole crossing the border thing is a bit of a giveaway, but iv'e noticed alot of conversations choices that point out that the dragonborn is from cyrodiil. Its probably intended that you could believe what ever you want for your character but it seems like this has been set up as a base backstory.

You're not necessarily from Cyrodiil, but it appears you were traveling into Skyrim by crossing the Cyrodiil/Skyrim border.

Just like you aren't from England if you use the Chunnel to travel to France if you're an American citizen.

Your character is told you where trying to cross the border and that your character came to Skyrim from cyrodiil. what's not bad about that.

About what?

One of my characters was a Nord traveling through Cyrodiil, and wanted to go home.

My Breton wanted to see Skyrim and traveled through Cyrodiil first.

I could have a lot of reasons for coming from Cyrodiil to go to Skyrim.

I'm not a fan of cyrodiil so I don't want to be told that my characters came to skyrim from cyrodiil.

Instead of "you where trying to cross the border" I would have preffered "you where in the wrong place at the wrong time" or something like that. :(

For him, everything that connected to imperial, even slightly, is bad.

No exception.

I remember a post in the lore forums awhile back, where someone said all the protagonists from the main series are from Cyrodiil

(CoC was in jail there, LDB Eternal Champion, and the Agent was implied to be from there, and the Nerevarine was sent to Morrowind from the Imperial City)..
person said this while trying to support the theory all the player characters are Shezzarines..

don't know if the person was correct or not, but it was an interesting read..

Your character in ALL of the games somehow end up in jail (except for the hero of daggerfall, and they talk about the Nerevarine being in the jail of the imperial city, same with the hero of Arena and the CoC. That is not bad writing, it seems to just be tradition.

I don't see it that way at all. nothing states that your character is actually crossing anything. I mean why can't the character simply be hunting or exploring "near" the border, when Ulfric and his men were running around close by. They run by you and the Imperials just happen to catch up with him and lo and behold YOU are seen as part of his little forerunners.

That scenario puts you there and you have never even been out of the Rift.

EDIT :

As a matter of fact there was a Skyrim movie that a guy put together that depicted that very thing. It was a brilliant piece of work. I'll try to find it...

well.....Hadvar DOES mention that you seem to have been caught in Cyrodiil or at the very border coming in, as he mentions "you're coming to your homeland." Of course, he could just be confused or have been mislead.

It make sense to cross from Cyrodiil at least considering it's the heartland of Tamriel. What better and faster way to hop borders than through Cyrodiil.

Now, it doesn't mean the Dragonborn hales from Cyrodiil.

That's a good point.

I did find a great cinematic piece but not the one I was thinking of. However, this particular one shows the DB actually starting out in Cyrodiil. An epic show that no fan should leave this world without watching.

I believe it serves as a reference to TES IV, which took place in Cyrodiil. How the player character ended up there in the first place, that's up to the player to decide.

A hallmark of the Elder Scrolls series is consistent use of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreliable_narrator It's foolish to accept, unquestioningly, what any NPC tells us (or what we read in any book) in any of these games. As PKMN12 points out, Hadvar may not know what he's talking about. He is most likely just repeating gossip and that gossip may be wrong.

Well then I guess your character is from Cyrodiil. Mine isn't.

My Breton was born in High Rock and raised in Hammerfell, before traveling to Cyrodiil and meeting up with Ri'saad, who told her there was much money to be made in Skyrim, so she traveled with them before getting separated at the border. And then things got worse.

I don't really think the Dragonborn is from Cyrodiil. He COULD BE (it's up to you) but only Hadvar makes that assumption and the dialogue is a bit inconsistent since you can ask Fasendil what Cyrodiil is like which would be a weird question to ask about a place you apparently lived and just came from.

Basically, it's up to you but I agree with everyone in that it's more likely the PC was only in Cyrodiil for a small amount of time before entering Skyrim.

My character is from the summerset isle though.

It's only been set up that you were COMING from Cyrodiil, not that you're from there.

he only mentions that "your are coming home" if you are a nord, and does not seem to infer you being from Cyrodiil, just that you are not from Skyrim itself (or at least not their currently)

Hadvar and Ralof also DO have some comments about how "you don't pay much attention to the war back in Cyrodiil", IF you ask them questions about the war. Since they don't know you, it can still be a mistake from their side, they're just assuming you're from Cyrodiil. With asking those questions you just proved to them you're not from Skyrim, because then you should have known what's going on there.

Well, just because they say you were trying to cross the border doesn't make it so. They're clearly not running at the very top of the accuracy charts.

As many has already said, the dragonborn was in Cyrodiil when he crossed the border. It doesn't mean that he was from there.

Hadvar never says that you are from Cyrodiil; just that you were in Cyrodiil.
