The Dubstep Thread

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:06 am

I've never really seen any dubstep threads in the community section of the forums, but I'm sure that there's plenty of members who enjoy dubstep.

So, this is basically a thread for all things dubstep.

Personally, I've been listening to dubstep for about 2 years now, ever since my brother introduced me to the genre with some tracks by Rusko. I didn't really know too many other people who listened to dub back then, but in the past few months dubstep has gotten extremely popular at my school.

Some of my favorite tracks
Rusko - Mr. Chips (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8T5OesYoZY)
Rusko - Take me to the Hospital (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w2PAcwIsaE)
Flux Pavillion - I Can't Stop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q9rewnLFYw)
Bassnectar - Heads Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bii91B3nbaY)
Mt Eden - Sierra Leone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maTcoGZ3feY)

Mt Eden isn't an artist, it's a duo. :P

Dubba Jonny - All In
Skillrex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

Also, stuff by Chase & Status.

... and Swedish House Mafia isn't dubstep. It's house...

I guess that's why it comes up on Pandora under the Dubstep channel and that song is classified as "dubstep" in the genre.

I quite like dubstep, but I don't listen to it all that often, I'm more of a House guy.

I do like some of Chase and Status's stuff though.

That remix was though ;) I must admit I didn't like it that much however...

Recently been listening to Feed Me, where I'd consider "Blood Red" to be a nice start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6GIdGhxyHw

I'm more of a House guy.

I would never have guessed

Well, just because one artist does a specific type of music doesn't mean that's the only thing they do. Deadmau5 does some Dub stuff also. His stuff is widely classified; tehcnno, house, dubstep, trance. He has a wide array of styles he does with his songs.
And yes, Swedish House Mafia does mostly House, but the song I linked is a remix, a dubstep remix. :goodjob:

lol, never thought I'd see a dubstep thread on the elder scrolls forum. Guess it's a sign that its getting quite popular.
So I would be extremely interested to know how many dubstep fans in this thread are from the uk? Crazy that it has become this big worldwide thing now, I remeber listeing to dubstep back in 2004 (yes I am cooler than you).
However, It annoys me when people completely write off grime, but like dubstep alot, considering grime is dubsteps rough edged drunken wife beating father.

Nope, from the states, in Chicago. And yes, dub is becoming extremely popular.

It's kind of like a mix between Grime and DnB (Drum and Bass). I can't do any better than that. It's evolved from a lot of different UK sub-genres, so it's a little difficult to describe. It's pretty easy to hear though, once you learn to tell the difference.

Anyway, just found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqF9FVxUzJ0. Thought of you guys, enjoy.

its a musical genre based around sparse dub reggae-esque beat structures and super over the top basslines. It is somewhat of an aquired taste imo

Effeminat - welll thats just cool as [censored].

Dubstep is what I would consider techno or house with a lot heavier influence on bass. The "wubwubwub" sound, as it were.
From wiki:
"Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South East London. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals"."

Damn, I just found that a few days ago myself, it's actually pretty chill for dubstep. The video is pretty classy.

Oh, and just found this track from Skrillex, it's sick - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaIZ0mUJzr0
