The dumbest things about the Blades...

Post » Wed Mar 11, 2015 4:41 pm

Everything you say is true. However..... The way Delphine tells it, the blades have ALWAYS been dragon slayers, and so far as they are concerned, there is no such thing as a "good" dragon. (aside from dead ones.) I don't think she even believes in a 'neutral' dragon....

I always wondered why she gives Odhaving a pass myself. Anyway, her arrogance ( and bizarre certainty she could take you no problem with you being unable to reply to that all) paranoia and control freakness really turn me off. Just for a tactical standpoint even the Blades are thel less useful and more reliable faction to side with.

The idea that the Thalmor are behind Alduin and that a person who has a death warrant out on him by said Thalmor should infiltrate there embassy is so dumb, it always stalls me on the main quest for a very long time.

I like that quest. It gives me the opportunity to kill a bunch of thalmor. An opportunity I take every time it presents itself.

You can trust Paarthurnax, the Grandmaster who teaches his disciples to believe that if they and the world are to be destroyed it was meant to be and should expect no say in it, if you want to. :-) I'll kill him.

Hey You, that's more the reason she's a complete nut case. :teehee:

Paarthunax does more than that, though, he helped you defeat Alduin. He seems a more balanced and complex character to me, who is able to contemplate multiple points of view, multiple possibilities and interpretations of events. Sure, he teaches meditation and a kind of non-violence to the greybeards, but he also admits he can't see everything, and does not know how long this world is meant to go on. And he respects you as the dragonborn wanting to save it. It was the human greybeard underling, not Paarthurnax, that wanted to just let the world end. Actually, to me, Paarthurnax seems like he is probably the wisest and best character in the game.

I liked the blades up the point they make you choose between them and Parth. I'm mean it's kind of silly to call themselves dragon hunters and you refuse to help the only person in Skyrim that can actually kill a dragon.

It's sad because being a blade and serving the Empire was the one of the best things about Morrowind and Oblivion for me. It was me showing my gratitude to the one who was responsible for my freedom.

just wanted to say I find this disscussion very interesting, and that I have a feeling I should talk to the blades again, I really didn't talk to them in a long time.
I don't like the idea of blades as dragons hunters to begin with - to me they are spies for te empror ( I know he's been gone for a pretty long time), and used in those game to give me a fair base to know most of the world in the basic level, I have to admit that at frist I thought that the jarl of whiterun willl replcae them, I was wrong and they send me around Skyrim, when we reached the temple sky, they turned useless, and we got a dragon instead.

I have a feeling I'll have more to add to that after I defeat the dragon, BRB :-)

Problem is there is an exit on the other side through the little courtyard...

The Greybeards don't give a rat's ass about the Nine Divines. If anything, given that they know about Alduin's role as the Cosmic Reset Button, they worship the old Nord pantheon.

Most of the Nine Divines (Akatosh, Mara, Stendarr, Talos, Dibella, Kynareth (Kyne), Julianos) are included in the Nordic Pantheon....genius . And that's not even the point of this discussion.

Their very inclusion hurts the integrity of the story.

For instance, how could Delphine have correctly assumed that the Greybeards would send the LDB to Ustengrav?

In what manner did she obtain the Horn of JWC without using Whirlwind Sprint?

How is it that Delphine, having a keen mind and being well-travelled, could even suspect that the Thalmor are behind the return of the dragons? (And this is also considering that she was working with a scholar well-versed in Skyrim's history no less.)

Why would she put you directly in harm's way to infiltrate the Thalmor Embassy alone? What if we did not have the right skills? Can't she get into contact with someone more qualified for the task?

Did they purposefully make the Nords ignorant of their culture and history in order to give Esbern some value by being the only one who can remind us that Alduin is the Aurbis' Kalpa-reset machine?

The parts of the MQ which involve doing any sort of thing on their behalf are among the worst since I find myself asking questions that I really shouldn't. They feel extremely shoehorned-in.

Don't forget Delphine's answer to the Dragonborn's asking if they could trust her: "If you don't trust me, you were a fool to walk in here in the first place." Like we had a choice, since we HAD to meet her in order to retrieve the horn of Jürgen Windcaller. She tries to make the Dragonborn seem like a weak-minded fool and her seem like a wise and noble rogue.

I just hope community reaction to Delphine means the Blades take a hike in Elder Scrolls VI, rather then continue to be around as a living reminder of the utter failure of the Septim Empire.
