The dummer and Helseth

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:21 pm

I never quite understood why the king was a dunmer. The dunmer in morrowind all say that "that is imperial follishness". So why would the king who thinks its imperial follishness become the king when hes a dummer? Wouldnt it be an imperial. The dummer also say that the dummer dont have kings?

Sry for spelling dummer mistake :P

(It's Dunmer, not dummer.) Helseth grew up among the Imperials and is determined to be a true king instead of a figurehead or puppet. As one of the dunmer says in "Morrowind", "No one's laughing now" at the king, whereas they used to with his predecessor. From what I've heard, one of Helseth's few allies is his mother Barenziah; they both spent years of their lives walking a tightrope amid court intrigue until he was able to achieve power for himself.

He seems like the Scot, Robert the Bruce to me in some ways; collaborating and negotiating with an empire while gaining enough power to be no puppet of the empire.

As yet, though, Helseth hasn't fought the empire, although he does allies who provide him with military assistance even if he probably doesn't trust them.

The King of Morrowind is an Imperial creation, as far as I know. Before the Armistice it was ruled by the Tribunal, and before then by a Grand Council, which was led by a khan.

He is an outlander. Whether his views are different or not (and as he is allied with House Dres, they may not be as different as people seem to think), many Dunmer don't like him.

He grew up in Highrock iirc and got a reputation for being quite the "alchemist" so to speak. Also, he is trying to force the empire upon Morrowind, and despite being a Dunmer, he's almost more of an Imperial stereotype than Tiennius Delitian (his head of guard).

He allied with the slave-holding Dres and then called a halt to slavery. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot! How stupid can you get?

Yes, I think he's not quite worked out how opposed to any sort of Imperialisation Morrowind is, especially his allies. He may have gotten rid of the Houses who supported the Tribunal, but he's only made the traditionalists even more powerful, and almost unopposed.

I suddenly find myself wondering, is the initial establishment of the Morrowind monarchy recorded anywhere? It's implied in Tribunal that it's a new institution established for the benefit of the Imperials, but I don't recall seeing any details as to exactly how that got started. I'll have to pay more attention when I go through Tribunal again (which I probably will fairly soon).

Well in my particular lore Helseth is dead. I killed him with a hammer.

Barenziah married King Eadwyre of Wayrest, and thus she became the Queen of Wayrest. It is here that Helseth and Morgiah grew up together. Whilst Morgiah had her own schemes in order to become

queen of Firsthold
, Helseth was constantly competing with his step sister Elysana for who would become the next in line for the throne. The two were constantly plotting, blackmailing, scheming to secure power for themselves. Following the death of King Eadwyre, Elysana took the throne, so Helseth and Barenziah moved back to Mournhold.

As a result, Helseth is an outlander and comparable to House Hlaalu in that he's among the more "Imperialized" Dunmer.
