[WIPRELz] The Eagle has Landed - Enclave MQ Overhaul

Yes, I assume you haven't heard anything from Kyntak. Damn shame. But it's very convenient that Talyn joined up now. Right now I'm sure any help is needed.

Kyntak? I knew that guy, he used to go on the 2k Forums; mentioned he had something to do with this.

But yeah, like the look of your mod Pistol, damn shame I'll never get to see it in action; are there any good videos of it that you know?

No videos, since I'm too lazy to find a free recording program and I don't want to pay for it :P

Why are you not getting to see this in action? Truth be told, had this voice acting now this mod would be pretty much complete as far as the original story is concerned. It's playable now too, if you don't mind voiceless dialogue.

Well here's a wild thought, how about using the original voice actor, Peter Gil? :) It might be quite possible to hire him to say a few lines.
Maybe it's only the lack of sleep that makes me even think about this, but if there's a way to get in touch with him, there would be absolutely no better option, don't you agree? But being professional, he would ask a payment. Even if it's a small one, I wouldn't ask you to pay for it. But, even as cheeseparing as I am, I might actually pay for it a little myself. And I'm sure I'm not the only one.

But I'm just talking here. I really do not know how things like that work these days. For me too it felt like unthinkable idea just a moment ago

Oh, if there was any theoretical odds that an actor would set up his own pocket-sized studio and record voices for random folks doing a modification of one of his earlier jobs, I would've hired him for Follower Autumn years ago :D

Truth is, we might just even pull it off since Peter Gil is a more low-profile actor, but I'm honestly in a situation in life where I just can't spend possibly hundreds of euros for this.

But of course, if anyone of you knows Peter Gil or is Peter Gil, take two steps forward :P

*takes two steps back*

Would be awesome if that could be done though. I know that some German Crysis modders managed to get the original German voice actor for Nomad to do some voice acting for their mod. :D

Haha, yeah I see how that could prove challenging :P But we are not going to find enough good voice actors just by sitting and waiting for them to come around, that's for damn sure.
But, since there's no real hurry, it doesn't really matter yet

The only voice actor we NEED is the one on the emergency broadcast. It's a must-happen and I thought of posting a recruitment thread in Nexus.

Now that I gave another quick playthrough, I thought of some things:

- Player receives still too little supplies at Raven Rock. To fix this, I will give the player water, food, grenades and a ripper. In the latest version you already get a plasma rifle and some 200 micro cells.
- While I'm proud of the scripts to handle it, the first events at the Purifier need a lot of cleanup. It just doesn't make sense. Notably, the necessity of player escaping the Purifier even though there is only two Brotherhood paladins to "conquer" it. However this is necessary as we don't want the Enclave control the Purifier yet. Or would we? Technically it wouldn't hurt the next quest much, but much of the plot would have to be rewritten which would take up to weeks of extra work. So I say we stick with the current plot.

So we need a good explanation for the Brotherhood invading the Purifier. Some theories:
- The Brotherhood has already finished Liberty Prime and launches it's Take it Back! assault.
- The Enclave, who doesn't know of the purifier's importance due to Cpt. Kaine's accident, does not react until player gets to Raven Rock. (In story, this is a matter of few days)
If the above would be true, it would serve an explanation to why the Lone Wanderer is later met in Vault 87 and it would avoid too much plot mess later on.
Also, it could be possible that the Brotherhood captures Colonel Autumn and Dad.

This would only lead to the necessity of adding a few Brotherhood soldiers here and there, and editing Alexander's (who rescues you with a vertibird) dialogue to point out that the Brotherhood is on the march.
This requires some editing of the Citadel too but it's a matter of few lines of script I can copy from MQ11

I will never see it old sport because I lack the money and such to buy a computer necessary to play Fallout 3 on anything other than the Xbox. Alas.

Well if you give me a run-down I would be glad to help in the capacity of brainstorming ideas; you've seen my level of thought into the Enclave after all.

I got a good one for you: Humbert, a slaver important to the "finding daddy" quest, has some 10 to 15 lines in total. Being a Wastelander it isn't hard to explain why he would have a foreign-sounding accent, and he is VERY minor so it isn't a big job to do.

That happens when you make a popular public appearance. You always get casted for the same roles. :swear:

No worry I am just kidding ;) . Actually it's easier because I don't have to change my tone much for the other roles I am recording.

I looked at the dialog of Humbert in the actual beta. If there are no changes I start recording his lines this weekend.

I'll keep it brief and explain the most fundamental events as of now:
- In the first post-tutorial quest, player starts outside Raven Rock on a patrol. Pip Boy intercepts a message. A vertibird pilot in his last moments reports that he is crashing and is carrying Captain Kaine, player's father and Secret Service agent, above Paradise Falls.
- After making a deal with friend Alexander (who agrees to report player MIA) player rushes to Paradise Falls.
- From Paradise Falls player goes to Mall, where he has to cooperate with reluctant ghoul population to find out where Dad went.
- Player is told Daddy went to Jefferson Memorial.
- Player meets Dad outside Jefferson Memorial, and they go inside together. Dad orders player to check the basemant while he goes to rotunda.
- When player returns to rotunda the James vs. Autumns situation is on. Dad is inside and Lone Wanderer is outside. James dies killing everyone inside.
- Player has to escape, and fights a few Brotherhood paladins on the way.
- Player is rescued by Alexander, who is a Vertibird pilot. Alex takes player to Canterbury Commons and before returning to Raven Rock tells that player can't return to Raven Rock as he is marked deserter and gives player Dad's notes, telling him to go to Rivet City.
- Dad's notes indicate he infiltrated Project Purity, and knows that the Project needs a GECK. He was on his way to bring the information to Raven Rock, but the crash prevented this. Player infiltrates the Brotherhood of Steel and uses the Vault Tec terminal to find out where a GECK might be.
- In Vault 87 player meets Lone Wanderer, and they work together to find the GECK. Once they've got it, LW sets up a trap bomb which knocks player out. LW escapes with GECK (I'm rather proud of this one)
- Player wakes up in Raven Rock, greeted by an angry Colonel Johnson (who was earlier met in the tutorial, as Lieutenant). He succeeded Colonel Autumn and starts interrogating you. President Eden interrupts this and calls you to his office.
- President tells about FEV as usual. Player meets Johnson in War Room. Johnson gives a brief battle plan about the Enclave's incoming invasion of Project Purity.
- Player goes to Jefferson Memorial with Vertibird with any companions and a strike squad. Fights brotherhood on the way, and narrowly escapes Liberty Prime.
- In the Rotunda he is ambushed by Lone Wanderer. He has intentionally similar dialogue to Colonel Autumn, in some places word-by-word.
- Player deals with Lone Wanderer and checks up his pip boy for activation code. Johnson ambushes Player as he doesn't trust he will use the FEV as intended.
- Player can kill Johnson to not use FEV or just go for it. As for now the game ends when Purifier is activated.

That happens when you make a popular public appearance. You always get casted for the same roles. :swear:

No worry I am just kidding ;) . Actually it's easier because I don't have to change my tone much for the other roles I am recording.

As far as I know nothing has changed.

I like it for the most part, aside from my own disagreences on how the Enclave operates but that's your call. I'm not sure what you are having trouble explaining though.

The Brotherhood attacks the purifier for the same reason that they do in the vanila game, "Enclave is evil herp derp."

I also don't understand the Enclave's response. They hold the purifier all the time that the player is MIA and the Enclave responds instantly when it gets attacked by sending the player right?

Ah, I was thinking you'd find that a bit hard to swallow. That is indeed after the first Purifier episode the most difficult part in the plot.
The idea is that Cpt. Kaine was originally commissioned to infiltrate the Project and send any information to Raven Rock. He was getting frustrated by lack of results (as notes indicate) but when James suddenly popped in with the Lone Wanderer, Kaine rushed it, radio'd biggest details to Raven Rock and tried to fly there. He crashed, far enough from Raven Rock that he wouldn't make it in time, so he turned back the the Purifier. When he got there (the player gets there the same time) the Enclave has sent a small detachment to investigate: Colonel Autumn and two bodyguards.
When James gasses himself and the others, the Enclave is left without any reports from the Purifier. They start slowly reaching up and they eventually figure out the Project needs a GECK - like it is in the original story the Enclave arrives in Vault 87, this time soon enough to rescue you.

As this all happens, story-wise, during a few days I would say that the Enclave starts preparing for the attack right after they lose contact with Autumn and they find out the Brotherhood has taken over.

The player doesn't actually make much difference in the Enclave's actions. The player's findings ease it a lot but the Enclave would've acted without him. After all, the player is MIA. The player becomes an important part of the plot not until he is invited to meet President Eden. Eden trusts the player as the player has seen first hand the horrors of the Wasteland, seen the Project Purity himself and would thus be a most likely candidate for a successful poisoning.

That said in this story everything would have gone like it went in vanilla had Kaine's vertibird not crashed. Another potential change is that Brotherhood gets Liberty Prime working earlier and thus has the courage to attack the Purifier after they first hear there's trouble.

Perhaps due to the sensitive nature of Kaine's operation there, the most suitable person to send on an investigation was the Colonel; can you not add more Enclave men that the two bodyguards?

As this all happens, story-wise, during a few days I would say that the Enclave starts preparing for the attack right after they lose contact with Autumn and they find out the Brotherhood has taken over.

So does Autumn get killed or captured by the Brotherhood? Let me get this straight:

1. LW gases Autumn.
2. Instead of Enclave moving in and defending from the BoS, the BoS move in, rescue the LW and capture Autumn and his entourage.
3. The Enclave respond with a full on assult after learning that the Brotherhood are preparing to move on the purifier and gain the support of the people.

So the Brotherhoods reasoning for taking the Purifier could be the support of the local populace, wasn't that Autumn's idea anyway? Or at least to control the locals.

As for Eden's reasoning I can get behind that, the PC actually knows his way around the Purifier; but I don't see how Eden would send him on his own. Why not have a few regular Enclave Soldiers as companions, one of them could explain that they've been assigned by Eden as opposed to Eden himself - who obviously wouldn't have the lines. Or say that the new Colonel assigned them to keep an eye on him and make sure that he did the right thing, I mean the only reason that he wouldn't put the FEV in is if he was a traitor right? Could prove for a bigger final fight against the Colonel and in addition your previous Enclave companions.

That said in this story everything would have gone like it went in vanilla had Kaine's vertibird not crashed. Another potential change is that Brotherhood gets Liberty Prime working earlier and thus has the courage to attack the Purifier after they first hear there's trouble.

So Prime is already at the Purifier when the Enclave assault? Does he get destroyed?

Yes, yes I can. Takes not much time, although they should fit in the control room.
I've thought that one of the future companions this mod uses would be met in Project Purity.

1. James gasses Autumn as usual. Colonel Autumn's demise depends on whether we decide to resurrect him for future quests. But he would survive and would be captured. The Lone Wanderer is watching it all as are you, and has no effect on the situation. As in vanilla, the Lone Wanderer came there a bit too late.
2. That is correct.
3. Yes, but the assault is delayed because of everyone being lost in the Purifier, except you who is still MIA and the Enclave knows nothing of. Alexander, who rescues you with Vertibird, tells the Enclave what the deal is only later when realizes the stakes.

So the Brotherhoods reasoning for taking the Purifier could be the support of the local populace, wasn't that Autumn's idea anyway? Or at least to control the locals.
The Brotherhood takes over the purifier for the same reason they did in Vanilla: to control the Wasteland. Yes, that is exactly what Autumn had in mind. As far as the Wastelanders are concerned, it doesn't matter who controls the purifier.

That is actually true. After meeting with Col. Johnson in the War Room he directs you to Sgt. Granite Jr. (hee hee) who gives you a strike squad of three (you can choose between normal trooper, big guns trooper, NCO and Sentry Bot). The reason thus why the strike squad is given to you is by Johnson's orders - you and your strike squad are the force that will plunge through the battlefield and conquer the Purifier itself while other Enclave troops hold off Liberty Prime and Brotherhood troopers.

The new Colonel, Johnson, is very concerned with you and the FEV and perhaps rightfully so. He is ultra-paranoid and 100% dedicated to the Enclave's original ideals, and in the climix he claims that you have been changed by the Wasteland, that you feel sorry for the Wastelanders, and thus Johnson follows you to the Rotunda to make sure the FEV is used. If you kill him, well, for now nothing happens, but in the future your companions will revolt against you if you haven't completed their personal quests.

So Prime is already at the Purifier when the Enclave assault? Does he get destroyed?
He would get destroyed. For now he isn't present at all, as I'm worried about his LAZOOOR and extensive scripting to make all that happen, but he will arrive and next time you talk to anyone you are told that the bot was torn down, although with huge casualties.

Now that I've updated my other mods I started working on TEHL again. For your information, I've also almost finished the design document for this mod. In the future, this mod will consist of three Acts, the now-existing five quests being only the first act. The second act will borrow elements from my EIP mod and involves you taking over the Wasteland for the Enclave. The third act takes place 3 years after Act II and features presidential elections in the Enclave. However, this quickly escalates into two opposing factions fighting for power: The Hardliners who support the Enclave's original Genocide ideas, and the Moderates who wish to follow Colonel Autumn's ideals.
The ending will be inspired by Fallout Tactics and will give a big picture of what will happen. Here's the ending if the Moderates win and FEV is not used in Act I:
FRESH WATER, SECURITY, AND A PLAN FOR THE FUTURE (No FEV, Moderate Victory): The Enclave cancels its plan to commit total genocide in the Wasteland and instead works to control the local population as its subjects, as American citizens. A great social gap remains between the Enclave and the locals, but peace comes to the Capital Wasteland. Those that survive the Enclave’s occupation wars start a new life under the federal flag.

After a hard two centuries of work the Enclave’s fierce dedication finally paid off and the United States was finally proclaimed reborn in July 4th 2286, 510 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Enclave pushed forward, quickly taking over nearby areas and forcing its people to submit to Federal law. All mutations were ruthlessly put down, and only those called near-humans were allowed to live, and even them under a harsh military occupation. By the turn of the century the Enclave’s iron hand had reached Pittsburgh in the West and the Commonwealth in the North. The Enclave’s victories were numerous and soon after they reached Canada and in South bogged down in conflict with a Caesar’s Legion. Nonetheless, the new United States of America had become a true power to be reckoned with, none matching its technology and training. America would once again be the world’s policeman.

So.. Yeah..
There won't be a "happy ending" for this mod. All endings will either result in total genocide by the Hardliners or a harsh military occupation by the Moderates. For happy endings with sunshine & bunnies, there's the original game.

What happens now is I start working on the new quests. I've given up my hopes of improving the old ones - my scripting skills just won't suffice. Thus I make my plea for talented folks out there, ones with the flash and whazam :P Talyn82 is assisting me of course, but we are both rather crude modders and appear to have little in the arts of Perfection.

I apologize, I have been slacking terribly on getting this done as a number of RL projects have been eating up my available free time to sit down and do a recording. I think I might take the opportunity to do some at my next "Podcast" recording (more of just talk internet, not so much a podcast). Might even see if the other folks involved would want to drop voice samples and possibly help out with this project. That would be this Saturday, so probably won't have anything ready for you before then.
