[WIP] The Eagle Has Landed - Enclave MQ Overhaul

Post » Fri Feb 12, 2010 6:47 pm

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED
Which basically is.. Fallout 3's Main Questline told from the Enclave's perspective.

You were born in 2258, the very same year when the Lone Wanderer was born in Jefferson Memorial. Your father is Captain Lucas Kaine, and your mother is Captain Chloe Kaine. You, like every child born to the Enclave have one sole purpose: to serve your country, to serve your president and his goals. No questions asked. To restore America to what it once was, to what it is meant to become again for the time to come.

You live the first ten years of your life being grown up by your parents and by the Enclave like any other child in Raven Rock. The next nine years will pass as well, until happens something what will change everything in your life. When patrolling outside Raven Rock with your good friend Alexander Johnson, you'll hear a tragic radio message: "Raven Rock, this is Sgt. Moore reporting, we're detecting severe damage to the vertibird carrying Captain Kaine. We cannot establish communication. Rotors have recieved red damage, I repeat rotors of vertibird carrying Captain Kaine are at red damage level. Crash intimment, over!" A few seconds pass. "Raven Rock, Sgt. Moore reporting in, vertibird carrying Captain Kaine has disappeared over Paradise Falls. Possible hostiles in that area. Cannot contact Captain Kaine or the rest of his crew, over." You will leave your post to search your father.

[Spoilers start from here!]

Search for your father starts without any remarkable success. You will visit Paradise Falls, and recieve only minor information, telling you that your father is heading south, towards D.C. Where from there? Your only option is to rely on the local ghoul population for information. And they are not going to just give it out. Helping ghouls? Hmm.. I'm pretty sure Uncle Eden wouldn't like that, now, would he? As ultimately you find out where your father went, things are getting hot. The Enclave has assaulted Jefferson Memorial, where this so-called "Purity Project" is being led from. Tragic death of your father and having to escape incoming Brotherhood assault, you will head into the wasteland. What now?

Narrowly rescued by your childhood friend, your last choice is to continue where your now-dead father stopped. You recieve a clue and with that head to Rivet City, where your father worked on infiltrating Project Purity. A note reveals that the Project lacks a G.E.C.K., and the Enclave knows the location of one. However, due to complications related to your father's disappearance, James' sudden emergence and failures in communication, the Enclave had to rush it. Therefore you must search for the G.E.C.K. The note also reveals that the Brotherhood of Steel also might be in possession of one, so you have to infiltrate it. Your path leads to Vault 87, where you have to co-operate with your nemesis, the Lone Wanderer, to recover the G.E.C.K.
Getting the G.E.C.K. would prove easy as it is, but getting away with it will not...

You will fall into a trap set by the Lone Wanderer who takes the G.E.C.K. However, you will be rescued by the Enclave (too late to stop LW though) and you are shipped to Raven Rock for interrogations. They aren't exactly happy about your whereabouts: Deserted, not contacting superiors, fleeing from battle.. However, you have done remarkable job in the search for the G.E.C.K. so you are given one last shot.. By President Eden himself..

[Spoilers end here]

The "big idea" of this mod is simply to allow you to join the Enclave without having to rely on pretending and imagination. You will also have plenty of time to explore the Wasteland, allowing a similar game to what you have seen in for example AS-R. You will start as an NCO, be promoted to a full officer late in the main quest, and ultimately to a Colonel and President. The path to presidency will be set after the main questline, and will deal with removing opposition by different means. You will also get to decide the fate of the Wasteland: A pro-FEV way of Pure-Strain supremacy, or Autumnist, a more humane approach. Taking models from Tranquality Lane, the best scenario would include a more or less total reconstruction project for some parts of the Wasteland.

The mod will include post-MQ activities as well. Simple deeds, such as BoS respawns and miniquests.

What this mod actually does?

+ Whole new Main Quest from the Enclave's point of view.
+ New NPCs
+ New armor and weapons
+ New locations
+ New, interesting sidequests
+ Will be completely compatible with your favourite mods, like FOOK, MMM and Enclave Commander.
+ Mod will be also a modders' resource when finished, so everyone can make their own plug-ins to run with the actual masterfile.

MOD PROGRESS:
Main Quest: 50% (Total 5 quests, 1 fully working, one lacks an ending and one is 65% done)
Post-MQ: 0% (To keep player busy. Only primitive models as of now)
Side Quests: 42% (Only two planned at the moment - moving by that)
Misc: 25% (Perks, new locations, new armor, loadscreens etc.)

The progress percentages are calulated by estimations. Zero was when I made the first post of thread 1, and 100% is when I can finally release a working BETA. After that, more percentages such as Voicing appears and Side Quests, Misc and Post-MQ are expanded.

******************

As of today, 5th of December these things have been done:

- First MQ quest works fine (made by me, perfected by FoxtrotZulu, debugged by Kyntak)
- Second MQ Starts as intended
- Second MQ's ending has "base" but so far unfinished
- Third MQ works as itnended, sans the "locate Vault 87" part and bugs.
- Two sidequests started, of which both around 40% ready.

Post ideas. As usual. As I have stated before, I will continue with this mod in my personal use so long as I can. When I simply stop at achieving things, I will release what I've done so far and let pros take care of the rest - Those that want that is.

Oh yeah and it would be grand if someone could make us a logo. Add mod name, theme faction's symbol and a few Enclave dudes (or just one officer). Vertibirds and dark environment a plus.

Looks good Pistolero, can't wait to Download, when it's released of course.

Edit: And your logo probably needs to have like a Vertibird landing in the background.

Good work Pistolero!

One question, what are you going to do about vanilla side quests/NPCs mentioning you as someone from the Vault. For example, when you first meet Moira, she knows you are from the Vault. Are you planning to edit the dialogue?

All vault-related dialogues will be cut. Moira will never say her Vault Stray line, and I will replace the Vault with Enclave in Eden's dialogue.

But also, Moira's quest will not be available for the player character. The radiation quest is too risky.

What's it about? Besides a Wastelander? :P

All right, sounds good. Any other side quests that will be cut?

When i heard the G.E.C.K was revealed i automatically imagined a new MQ with TONS of new quests and from a new perspective. its been a good year now, and you are the only one in the modding community to undertake such a project, with seriousness too.

i salute you (as a fellow enclave soldier)

P.S. you should incorporate classic enclave power armor

Well although I put it on hold for awhile to get used to the geck. its basically the story view but from a waster landers view instead of the Lone Wanderers, or the enclave.
There are a bunch of twist and mysteries involved with your character, and the people around you. The story also may twist with the original game but I'm not sure.
New places and a whole new quest line.

Most super-good-guy quests will be cut, including:
- WSG
- Big Trouble in Big Town
- Reilly's Rangers (not sure)
- Galaxy News Radio

And of course, some quests need to be rewritten, such as
- Trouble on Homefront
- And, and...

I don't know. Stealing Independence maybe, to allow shipping of the Decl. to the Enclave's Preservation Society, mentioned in thread 2 (some pics in Gallery too).

for tennpenny tower you could have it the other way round (roy ghoul tower and tennpenny trying to get in)

It's technically possible but that would mean we'd have to rely on un-voiced dialogues. Plus the fact that re-making the same setup with different sides would take too much time to be worth it.
Haven't tried, though

Yes, I waited for one, too. And as no one started it, I decided to throw in my minimal modding skills and give it a shot. Hence the long time this mod needs.

Good luck with that then
Making quests is not really that hard. In fact, the only reason this mod isn't ready yet is the amount of scripting it needs to al the moves and tweaks.

You can have the file after Kyntak has finished with the debugging and whatever he does :)
And in advance I'd like to apologize - again - for my BAAAD writing. I just plain svck in dialogues :(

Okay thanks.
Don't worry about not being able to write good dialogues, I svck at mapping and I'm sure Kyntak has a weakness.
For me, it sort of makes it more fun to work together.

My weakness is the graphical side. I can make areas and clutter them, but I hate navmeshing :P. I'm just going to give you the files now, because if I debug and script this version before you do your thing, I'm going to pretty much have to start from sratch.

I agree it makes it much more fun when others do the stuff you dont like :P

EDIT: I didn't work on it much, but I did do som tweaking to errors in the script. I havn't had a chance to test it, but up until the purifier scene the game should work.

If you want i can work on the script. Been a while since i wrote anything but I could probably fix that up for you if you think its bad.

Also as an enclave soldier how would you deal with the vaults? And will the lone wanderer be an enemy?

As of now me, Kyntak and Zulu are taking care of things, but of course after BETA I will likely be recruiting more :)

You can deal with Vault 101 in a unique way brought by this mod. It's tied to the Overseer's message from the Enclave. However, unlike in vanilla, he will let you in to discuss the future of the Vault.

Lone Wanderer is your enemy but you have to co-operate with him in order to get the G.E.C.K. from Vault 87. He will betray you and steal it, though.

ah. Sounds like it would be pretty cool, Im guessing LW knocks you out (With the geck or he shoots you and presumes your dead?) And when Autumn strolls in to get him and the G.E.C.K. one of the soldiers tell him theres a soldier inside?

By future of the vault im guessing get him to allow Enclave troops inside to study the dwellers life styles and recruit them/move them to Raven Rock or kill everyone and claim the vault as a mini base for the enclave?

Uhh, to be honest, I have never seen the film :embarrass:
But it can include kidnapping if there's a good reason to..

And Zulu if you are reading this please report if you are working on the mod file. Your inbox is full so I can't PM.
