The Elder Scrolls V announced at VGAs Thread #4

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 8:11 am

Honestly, I thought the song in the teaser sounded identical to the Oblivion theme, which I found too bombastic as well. I just prefer Morrowinds understated theme that doesn't try to be epic.

It's the same good old Elder Scrolls theme (roughly), of course, but the elements used (the choir, as I mentioned before) don't seem like Soule's style to me. Note that I'm not an expert. :D

When you think about it, it's fitting. Nords are loud like that. Raising one's voice is part of the culture.

It didn't sound like the usual Soule to me either. But he is versatile, maybe he just went for a change of style?

In my limited knowledge of his music, the general theme did sound rather Sproule-esque. The vocals didn't, but I think they're pretty much required to firmly plant the Nord stamp on it.

Looks like TESIV 2.0.

Come on, talk about jumping on the bandwagon (Dragon Age).

Oooo. Dragons. Evil dragons. How innovative. And we even have the obscure-language chant and high-fantasy music. How utterly cliche.

Generic Fantasy o-rama. :shakehead: I'm not buying this one. *makes a rude gesture at Todd Howard*

EDIT: Actually, I will buy it - once it hits the bargain bin!

I agree that dragons have been done a MILLION times before, but I would withhold judgement until the game is revealed more. Are you really not going to buy Skyrim because you're upset about the content of the first teaser? Suit yourself, but I know what I will be doing on November 11th. :) EDIT: Beth revealed via twitter that it will be a BRAND NEW engine. I assume that would help with the bugs.

OT: I would assume that Soule is doing the music. The general Elder Scrolls theme is in there, and I'll bet that the choir is used to give Skyrim it's own "feel." He's probably just trying to keep the music fresh.

I probably should have waited longer for OB to hit the bargain bin. I played it once and haven't touched it in two years. Morrowind, on the other hand, I am still actively interested in. I can think of many other games I'd much rather play than TESIV. Sure, I can mod it to death - but that's a lot of work and just gives me a headache whenever the game CTDs.

Dragons have been overdone to death. What next? TESVI: Zombies? Might as well jump on that fad, too.

Wait? TESV was announced? Does this mean no more conspiracy theories in the speculation thread?

I'm calling akaviri invasion on the plot, what with the dragons and all.

Well [censored], I stop checking the ES site for a week and that's when they spring the announcement? That's just uncouth. And rude. Ah well. :) It's a good day.

I see both the optimism- and pessimism-trains are in full motion already.
