The Elder Scrolls V announced at VGAs Thread #4

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 3:38 am

Certainly a fraction of the time it took to announce and release Morrowind/Oblivion, but what about the time from Arena to Daggerfall?

Im sorta disapointed we diddnt get to see ANY of the game. Im hoping for a screen shot or sum footage soon. Maybe a Dev Diary.

Were all just staring at a rock wall.

Every big game announcement of the past few years has been a CGI trailer. I wasn't disappointed and I certainly wasn't surprised - this is business as usual.

Im trying to look for anything hidden in the site but nothing so far

If you press a button on your keyboard it should zoom in (I pressed "1" first, but it seems to work with any key).

Hi all,

This is is my first post here.
Because i'm fairly young i'm pretty new to the Elder Scrolls (less than 2 years), but I have played all the games being enthralled by the series.
Before now although reading these forums a lot I haven't had the need to post but in light of recent events that has changed.

I had been checking this site and others a lot lately sensing an announcement around the corner.
My internet goes down for 36 hours and I am completely out of the loop with Skyrim's announcement.
I was wondering if Skyrim looks better than Oblivion straight after being announced.

Thanks Guys

Well, all we saw was a CG trailer. I think it looks a lot grittier and mature. That makes me happy. If you have ever played fallout 3 you know what I mean.

The teaser was probably one of the most uninspired teasers I've ever seen, and a cynic that I am I am not too optimistic - but I am interested in seeing what they come up with this and if & how have they imrpoved from Oblivion (and Fallout 3).

I must say, I found the theme for TES V more epic than both Morrowind's and Oblivion's. I want more.

For anyone curious, http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9867/timeline18.png, now with Skyrim added in.

*Sniff* It's all grown up...

As you can see, 11 months is definitely the shortest time between announcement and release so far, post-Morrowind anyway. And by the looks of things, it was made in less time than Morrowind, which would be cause for concern until you remember that it has 3x the number of developers that Morrowind had (~30), and 1.5x the number Oblivion had (~60).

I hope Jeremy Soule will do the music again. He did a great job with the past 2 Elder Scrolls games.

Indeed. I would buy the Collectors edition just for the soundtrack. Bethesda gives so much. Just think. That is only one song.

Well, i thought it was pretty much a micro of everything we wanted. the main char (dragonborn) seems to be the epic char we wanted. the music is epic (actually its exactly what i was humming to myself a few weeks back, with the vocals and all... not the lyrics, but the general thing), and dragons. So I think Beth has at least listened to us.

I'm thinking that is because they are going to touch more upon the lore of the Dwemer. From what we know they have some history with the Nords when the Dwemer and Chimer unite to expel the Nords from Morrowind.

Also in the Dwemer ruins of Bamz-Amschend in Mournhold, Morrowind, there are numerous piles of ashes present next to weapons and armor, on chairs, and in beds. This suggests their physical presences were suddenly reduced to ash in some way. Maybe the whole Dragon theme going on in ESV?

From the looks of it. The carvings look kinda like tunnels. So I'm going with your theory.

That makes me wonder who composed the music for the teaser. Doesn't sound much like Soule to me - I haven't heard of him using a choir before.

But it was Soule's tune. It's The Elder Scrolls' theme, but Soule wrote it, so he kind of owns it. I doubt Beth would be able to use the tune without him or at least his consent, so I assume they've got Soule back.

Reasonable assumption. Soule is a diverse composer and his music is evolving all the time - the powerful choir does fit the jagged roughness of the Nords and Skyrim... well, whatever the case, I do hope he's back.

It looks as if this game is going to be EPIC!!!!!!!!
Hopefully all the music is going to be this amazing.
There seems to be plenty of references to be Oblivion in the game.
The story seems to have heaps of potential.
I know we haven't seen any in game footage or screen shots which will be the real test. But I'm EXCITED!!!!!

Honestly, I thought the song in the teaser sounded identical to the Oblivion theme, which I found too bombastic as well. I just prefer Morrowinds understated theme that doesn't try to be epic.

"Can we has dragonsss? PLEEAASSEEEE? Please please pleaseseeeeeee?"

"Fineeeeeeeeeeeeee."

Holy [censored][censored][censored][censored][censored][censored][censored], I'm like a 12 year old kid bouncing up and down on my seat :| I'm damn near ecstatic that it is in Skyrim, after all the speculation. I love those sort of settings, and I thought Solstheim was done brilliant.

I'm not too sure what to expect quality-wise. Nostalgia ensures it wont be better than Morrowind, but if I get the general amount of game time I got out of Oblivion, with the general "quality game" feel of Fallout 3, they'll have done a damn good job. Just so long as the main quest consists of more than just "close teh Dragongaytz!" :P

11 months is a long time. I wait with impatience.
