The Elder Scrolls Classics!

Please don't move this. This is TES General Discussion if we can talk about TES:V surely we can talk about this. I don't want this to get buried by other topics in TES Past Games forum. I would like to see the past games (Arena, Daggerfall, Battlespire, and Redguard) released in some kind of collection for PC and consoles. So TES fans like me who never played those games can play them without having to deal with the DOS crap.

The first TES game I played was Morrowind. I've been very curious about playing Redguard. I downloaded a demo for it and I couldn't even play that. Apparently I need to practically engineer my computer by downloading a bunch of stuff to be able to play it.

Even if they did get re-released, they'd just release them as DOS anyway. Besides, using DOSbox isnt hard, there are plenty of guides to get the games working perfectly. Arena takes something like 10 secs to get going, Daggerfall takes a bit longer, Redguard just requires you to download some other packages and follow a guide, and Battlespire....I have no idea.

A "classics" collection will probably never happen. Beth is concentrating of FO3 right now and (hopefully) TESV after Fallout's released. I asked GStaff about this once and he said theres no plans to re-release them. Add that to the rumour that Daggerfall's source code is gone; the chances of a re-release of the old games is basically nil.

As this is indeed about past games, that is where it belongs. There are helpful topics there to give suggestions about running the games.

I told you not to move it. Please move it back. I don't want it here. TES General Discussion = only TES:V? Apparently...why not rename it to TES:V Discussion.

Indeed making Redguard work on XP might be frustrating (even if I was able to do that just by setting the compatibility mode to Windows 98, but that may be just because I'm lucky): if I recall correctly, anyway, it should be possible to use a program called Gildos to run it successfully, but you might also http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Redguard:Installation_guide or do a search with google (I came up with some video guides showing how to make it run). Daggerfall and Battlespire can be run quite easily by using Dosbox, as Robbio already said: the only requirement is a quite powerful PC, especially for the latter (but, if [stress the if] I remember correctly, there was a CVS dosbox version which increased the performance dramatically with Battlespire)

About the rerelease: it won't happen. I'd be the first to appreciate an XP port of Daggerfall, but I doubt it'd be even possible to do that; not to mention that Bethesda definately isn't interested in releasing it again.

If you're going to kick things off with the phrase "I would like to see the past games", expect it to be moved to the Past Elder Scrolls Games section.

Well I could add it to the sticky (which I am still working on and almost done, but I haven't got any new questions). But I don't know exactly how/where to put it in it.

You know, people like the thread-creator will never read your,as I see it, perfect sticky. That's why threads like this one are created over and over again.

If you can't deal with DOS crap you most propably can't deal with the games either.
I mean, for example, installing Daggerfall on XP is much easier than finding the Wayrest painting ;)

It's funny that people don't seem to understand that, to play computer games, you have to understand how to use your computer.

I think this may explain the popularity of consoles.

That's why all my friends stick to consoles. They're either too lazy or too computer illiterate to get games running on their comps.

The only trouble with that is they miss all the fun of the first part of the game: Getting it to run!

No one said you're an idiot.

I was just remembering all the time I spent back in the dos days trying to get the games to work. It really was an adventure in itself, one I liked, and I didn't mean to say anything that you would take as a personal insult or anything.

This is why I didn't want this thread here. You guys are very negative. While people in TES: General Discussion are more positive.

Fixed. Post this in the TES General and all you'll get are a bunch of people saying "YES, I'd like that, and it'd be so easy to do, why haven't the developers done this already?" without knowing a thing about how unfeasible it really is. I understand that you don't want to hear it, but it really just won't happen.
