The Elder Scrolls: A Comic

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:36 pm

After reading Greg Keyes awesome book The Infernal City, I found myself in need for much more Elder Scrolls-related entertainment. Not cheap iPod or facebook games, but raw entertainment that broadens the universe of Tamriel. Greg Keyes. of course, is already under way with another Elder Scrolls book, but the image kept going in my head about a graphic novel of some sort. The idea of such a thing was intriguing to me because it would possess both writing and visuals in a style ES fans have never seen before. As for story ideas, I'm nearly blank. One cool idea I've always considered is the story of Esbern and how he becomes the last of the Blades.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Is putting Elder Scrolls in comic form really a good idea, or is it just going to impair our experience when playing the game? I'd like your thoughts.

If anyone is aware of the Assassin's Creed: The Fall series, they know that, in the right hands, video game comic series can be well done.

Why would I have to hear you out? If it's TES I will read it. Do people not like comics?

I'd love it. It wouldn't be the first comic in the elder scrolls. there was the one from redguard. I'd love to see the sequal to redguard "the eye of argonia" written in comic format since it doesn't seem we're ever going to get the game or the story for that matter.

This. And I would much prefer more novels as opposed to comics. However, I wouldn't say no to both

I do not think the broadness or the scope of the elder scrolls can be done justice in a comic.
Unless its a very brilliant graphic novel with Divayth Fyr in.

But a monthly or bimonthly comic would lack the depth wich is an integral part of elder scrolls.
It would have to be x-men under Claremont in the 80's quality to not be dissapointing.

If those conditions are met, yes please.

I already bought and read an Elder Scrolls novel. A comic book wouldn't be a stretch. Hell, at this point they could release an Elder Scrolls connect the dots coloring book and I would probably buy it.

Dark Horse could release a comic relating to Elder Scrolls and I'd buy and read it.

The comic they did for New Vegas CE.

Novels, ES never seemed the kind of game that transfers well into comics

agreed. Then again, anything Cyrus would kick ass. Now all we need is a comic of Cyrus and his sword meeting with Vivec.

I'm not into fantasy novels, so I'd probably be more likely to check out a fantasy style graphic novel, just for something different.

Totally agree. Keep the pretty ( gritty? ) pictures in-game.

Interesting! It's true that novels generally leave the way things "look" to the reader. However, if it's done well, it would be a cool thing for Bethesda to try out. Looking at that Cyrus comic and the New Vegas comic, as long as the story focuses on a specific character I think the fans would embrace it. The question still remains though as to what to base your story on. Should they be set before Skyrim? Should they even be set in Skyrim? Should the characters in the comic be included in the game?

I think its a wonderful idea - comics are a great avenue for both storytelling and world development through art.. However, seeing some of the stuff Dark Horse came up with for Mass Effect, I'm a bit hesitant to jump behind it all the way, lest all our women end up with DD's and all our clothes as skin-tight latex suits.

If there was a comic in the collectors edition like all roads in New Vegas then hell yeah, I loved finding places on the map refrencing that comic, including special items like chances knife and his map :D.
