the elder scrolls face creation curse

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:39 pm

so from what i have noticed from oblivion and fallout 3, whenever you create a face in those two games the tools seem to have a mind of their own, for example whenever you costumize a feature like the nose, when you change a feature like nose length to 5.5 and then you change nose hight to 6.2, but then you find that by changing one thing you also change the others as well, so now nose lengh=4.2. i was wondering if skyrim was going to be the same as these two games because if it is, then i'm going to be pissed.

nope, they ditched the face gen thing. instead they opted to make several different noses, ears lips, etc that you can choose from and tweak slightly. no more wall of sliders. check my sig for a link to all the info you'll need.

20:36 Facial creation:

"There's an all new face system we did. On the one hand you have less control than you had in Oblivion, but what you're doing looks cool. Our joke was Oblivion would have been better if the Random button was renamed the Ugly button on the face creator. So we've redone that completely with really, really nice results. Something simple like a nose, we have a lot of prebuilt shapes you can pick from, and then you can adjust the size and position of that, as opposed to lots of fiddly sliders. It lets us hand craft a lot of options that you can mess with. If you just start messing around, you're not going to end up with something that looks bad."

I liked character creation in The Sims 3, if they did it sort of like that I wouldn't mind at all.

...........makes me love the Creation kit even more.....seriously sliders are as accurate as one can get(me) to the intended faces. the preset faces in the Fallouts were such crap.

I think it's already been confirmed that Kinect won't be enabled - sorry mate. That does seem like a cool idea though.

Lol you found the ONLY useful thing that Kinect could be associated with TES through. But even then it would probably not come out very well. Look at all the other Kinect and Move titles that do that. Would need some kind of modeling program built in and would take up a lot of space.

just take a picture of yourself, print it on your pc, then tape it in front of your tv, and start from there.

the tech for the kinect needs alot more refinement before it can be used in a "real" game but its a great idea and fun to play with friends and family. but i definatly wouldn't want it implemented in any gameplay way in TES

I just hope they have TONS of different facial features to choose from. I love to spend hours just tweaking and creating my character to look perfect, so I will be very disappointed if it is just choosing between nose1-nose10 and mouth1-mouth5. I have noticed that in the screenshots and video, all the player characters look very similar. This could just be the devs using the same character, or the character creation could cause all characters of one race and six to end up looking very similar. Only time will tell...

i think that you will choose the feauture style and then twick it to just how you want it, so in that perspective i think it will be somewhat like dragon age.

As long as it isn't like Dragon Age 2. They don't even allow you tweak anything in that game!

Yes they do. Hawke is fully customizable.

On topic: I like this news because at first I loved my first Oblivion character. And then after hours of playing I noticed he frowns haha

Yeah. You start off playing as the default Hawke then after the tutorial section is finished (which is maybe 5 minutes long) you can create your own character. For me it's really stupid though. How does Hawke go from having brown hair and a bushy beard to a long, blonde hair, goatee lookin dude (that's what I intend to make) in a few seconds. Meh. I have been visiting the DA2 boards all day at bioware's site and I can't believe people are complaining about that game. Really, just enjoy it because Skyrim will trump any RPG made anyways!

I iz excited
