The Elder Scrolls VI is a long ways off - Interview

Post » Sun Jun 19, 2016 11:09 pm

As I said many times.

Yes I know a video game taking many years to develop doesn't mean it will be a good video game.

But Todd Howard says he wants to adopt the newest technologies faster than ever before to realize the visualization and the art of the video games that they want to develop.

They are experimenting with Virtual Reality (VR) after all and Virtual Reality (VR) is not a commercial success yet.

Then there is DirectX 12 which I hope the PC version of The Elder Scrolls VI supports, then to utilize the 6TFlops or so that the Xbox Scorpio will have and for PC as well, well PC should utilize more as we PC gamers get more and more powerful GPU's every year.

For me The Elder Scrolls VI needs a break until 2023 anyways Or at least 2021.

Well, I hope you are very wrong, but we shouldn't argue about speculation. We'll just have to wait and see!

I think as much as the whole fanbase wants TES IV they need to take their time with it. Mainly because 1. They have seen how Witcher 3 surpassed FO4 in every way because of CDPR's great quests and world design. They need time to surpass it because if they start going downhill they will quickly lose all the fans (it's like any industry, very hard to gain support and respect and very quick to lose it). 2. They probably will want to upgrade the engine with alot of new technologies otherwise if they release TES IV now everyone will again be screaming "why no new engine". Like seriously a new engine or updating the current engine could take a long time, but of course gamers always want everything.

Ballowers...dont you think the one needing a break is you from making pseudo apocaliptic TES speculations and making it seem normal?

I can agree with some things you are sayimg...but to say TESVI will be out in 2023 is something I just can't agree. Plus you are taking Pete Hines words as if he was a reliable person regarding statements...mainly cause what he usually does (and I understand) is to twist peoples mind just to hype even more a possible future announcement.

Of course they dont want let TES franchise to die...I mean, people usually forget things if theres a big gap between releases and they just forget about that majestic franchise...videogames needs momentum. They don,t want to lose it and thats the reason of Skyrim remaster. Its like time in between, helping them to continue creating TESVI without too much interferences...but if we assume your words and that TES VI will be released in 2023...7 years before Skyrim remaster and 12 years before Skyrim...then I can assure you it would make TES franchise to be forgotten. And more in the world we live in nowadays where people just jump to another thing if theres nothing to see here. And I dont think they need 7 more years to create TESVI. Hell...then for TESVII the whole Bethesda would be ancient people.

I took Todd's answer as perhaps suggesting that were aiming for the post-Xbox One/PS4 consoles to reach critical mass (I won't necessarily say 'next-gen', because it may be more of a stepping stone generation). He was on the Project Scorpio vid, after all. They might realize that the current iteration of consoles will be displaced by their updated models in ~4 or so years, and is willing to work towards that rather than release the game on a console sub-generation that's already in its twilight years.

A new engine, if it were happening, would obviously need to factor that in too. I mean, he talked repeatedly about 'waiting for the technology' - he could mean hardware as much as software.

My guess is that "very long way off" means at least a year until announcement, possibly 2-3 until release. In this industry, anything over a year is a very long way off.

As for VR, I think they likely have something in the works to test the new technology, and they're waiting for that to either pan out or fail before they commit fully to TES VI.

Yep. Folks you can try to read the tea leaves as much as you want , but its all just speculation, so I wouldn't get too worked up over it either way. It is impossible to draw any definitive conclusions from the vague and contradictory statements released by Bethesda. In the Pete Hines tween quoted above, Pete says TES 6 was not "in the works" but that is directly contradicted by the http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/13/e3-2016-bethesda-is-working-on-the-elder-scrolls-6 where Todd Howard confirmed that they were in fact "working on the Elder Scrolls 6.".

Maybe "in the works" means something different to Pete Hines than the rest of the world. In any event, I wouldn't take anything they say too seriously at this point. We will know when we know. I have always expected TES 6 in 2017 or 2018, and nothing I heard at E3 or since has changed that, but that's just my guess. Maybe we should have an office pool with bets and stuff.

Yeah, that is pretty much my guess, an announcement in mid to late 2017 and release by the end of 2018. Looks like we are betting the same spot in the office pool

I give it two years.

Maybe 2 years is 7 in Pete Hines' years? :\

I would also like to be alive and able to play the damn game when it comes out. I'm 45 now, I would rather not be 60 when the game is finally released. Even if it is 7 years from now that still puts me at 52. Lets do some math, Skyrim came out in 2011. If your date is right that means 12 years between new TES titles. That is UNACCEPTABLE for a series that is top of it's Genre, being the best RPG series on the market.

Take their time with it? It's almost 5 years and they have yet to even look at it. THAT is the whole problem, taking their time is fine but first you have to actually start working on it and they have yet to do that.

I believe that it is safe to say that regardless of the release date, I'm beyond stoked to get my hands on The Elder Scrolls VI. I've been playing for years now, and I honestly don't think I've ever enjoyed an RPG game as much as I've enjoyed The Elder Scrolls series :)

Development time isn't miraculously tied to just one franchise. All told they will have spent 4 solid years making Fallout 4 and its add-ons, so people need to stop counting the time from Skyrim to now, as if the intervening years are some unfathomable anomaly that needs to be justified. You can start counting your clocks again come August, when the last DLC for Fallout arrives.

Add another 3 or so years to that, and then you can start to wonder what they're up to.

I'm counting the time from Skyrim because Fallout 4 should have never been given to the same dev team, it should have been given to another dev team or another company completely. If they can't release TES VI, the series that put Bethesda on the map, within 5-7 years than something is wrong. That might be acceptable to others but it's not to me.

Well in that quote that Todd Howard says they are working on The Elder Scrolls VI he says this.

"I could sit here and explain the game to you, and you would say, 'That sounds like you don't even have the technology. How long is that going to take?' So it is something that's going to take a lot of time, what he have in mind for that game, and we actually have two other large projects we're also doing that are bigger than everything we've done. People will probably hear about those even before Elder Scrolls 6. That'll make sense many years from now."

Pete said there were 2 major projects before they do TES VI. That means NO ONE has started working on it and by chance ONE PERSON has it's still going to be another 7 - 10 years before we get TES VI. Working on it means the Dev Team is working on it as a whole, not ONE PERSON out of 100+ people coming up with a story line.

There are two Bethesda studios: one in Rockville, one in Montreal. And they could easily split one of those studios into two teams.

Only as of December of last year they set up the Montreal Bethesda Game Studios.

We know already they are helping with The Elder Scrolls Legends card video game and Virtual Reality (VR).

Judging by this thread, Elder Scrolls VI is the new Half Life 3.

They'll be finished with Legends next month, or the month after that. They'll be free to work on a "real" game after that. I'm reasonably certain the entire Montreal studio isn't going to work full-time on VR.

While this is surely happening (obviously there's the mobile team, plus the former Behavior Interactive staff helped do the Skyrim SE) it's also true that their combined total is still a fairly modest 160-180ish. Virtually all major AAA games use a team size of 150-500, so there's only likely to be one main title being focused on at a time (say ~75% of the team).

No they aren't. That's Dire Wolf Studios. Montreal is doing Fallout: Shelter, plus they lent a hand on Skyrim SE and contributed some of the tech on Fallout 4.

I'm sure Fallout 5 or Starfield will be the next video game Bethesda Game Studios Montreal will be working on developing.

Well it could be Starfield since Bethesda Game Studios Maryland we have confirmation they are pre-producing Fallout 5 I guess.
