The Elder Scrolls Lore in a Minute

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 12:52 am

There is a video on Youtube called, The Elder Scrolls Lore in a Minute, I just wanted to see what the lore buffs thought of this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kw9_M8w-N1c&ob=av3e

Personally I think the video should be renamed "The Elder Scrolls Main Quests in a Minute" What are your thoughts?

My initial reaction to the video "lol 2 deep 4 u." but hes more or less just summarizing the series in a nutshell for people who don't know Skyrim. I don't know why he went with lore instead of something along the lines a recap for the series, but eh.

I loved the Star Trek reference on the Emperor. It was a clever nod to Patrick Stewart. I think this was a fun video, if maybe not entirely accurate.

I'm subscribed to him, I like watching his videos they make me chuckle. They're not meant to be taken super seriously.

I like those videos. Although the main result of me watching them is that now I am subscribed to Dodger's "coffee" channel.

But it isn't supposed to be a hugely in-depth thing. It's "in a minute" after all. Just a working knowledge of the big points so you're not flying blind when starting Skyrim and nothing he said is strictly wrong.

Like one of the comments said, only Chuck Norris can explain the Elder Scrolls lore in 1 Minute. :o

.. I can. It'd be hard and I'd have to talk really fast and would probably need a cacophanous musical accompaniment, but I could do it.

I wonder why someone doesn't take it upon themself to actually dig into the lore on a youtube channel. other than the fact it would fly other the general audiences heads.

Actually, I think that'd be fun if some of us (and I say us meaning me and people with cameras) took a week and tackled bits of it, including dramatic readings of texts and little annotated bits and bobs. Oh, for a video camera.

It would be great if the lore community got together to get a youtube channel and did things like lets plays of the series, general talk about it, lore debates, and maybe exdev interviews kinda like the fireside chats over on the imperial library. I'm not active enough here to really be of any use but its a idea I can throw out there for other to consider.

Astion (anyone remember him?) and myself once considered a series of lore videos. Never took off, though. It's definitely something I'd be interested in doing, if there was interest and I could find the time.

Lady nerevar I saw you did the fireside chat with MK have you considered trying to do something similiar with other developers? I would really like to see some with some of the older ex devs like how the art style of mark jones has helped shape the series or maybe have julian Lefey(if you can find him) talk about his experience with the series. In many ways I feel like they would have lots of ideas about the lore and creation of the series and give new perpectives.

Well it's safe to say anybody who visits the lore forum here even half frequently would be more than interested in following lore related discussions or interviews on youtube. You'd have a daily/weekly/monthly visitor to a channel like that in me anyway.

You know what? [censored] it. Let's do it. Let's get like six people, make a youtube channel the six of us can access and we can each have our own little thing.

Be aware that my videos wouldn't be the best quality for at least the first few weeks, though. Dibs on doing the pilot Arcturian Heresy dramatic reading and talk.

EDIT: I'm creating the channel tomorrow morning, EST. Also, I do remember Astion, where the hell is he?

MK is actually the one who came up with the idea of the chats. Haven't asked other devs - I don't communicate with any of the other ex's, and the current devs tend to not be able to talk about as much. It was never intended to be a full interviews series, just Michael and myself having some fun while putting some things on the table.

You're in luck. I've got a DSLR that can shoot HD so [censored] stunning it makes my PC choke on its oatmeal.

I have actually been talking to mark jones lately over email and if you'd like I could ask him if he would be interested in doing one or two interviews. Also if I remember correctly the creator of daggerXL has frequent contact with Julian Lefay I could try contacting him to see if both of them would be interested. And since your close with MK, Lady Nerevar you can ask if he could get a few more ex-devs in on the action.

Dunno what any of those words are except oatmeal, but if you make a video lemme know.

Takin' the Dreamsleeveish transmissions to a whole new level, I see. Can we make this an in-character thing?

Someone can. I think I'll be taking it in a more "looking at it from a literary perspective" style of thing myself.

You all seem to have several bases covered here, but if further assistance is necessary, i have a camera and a voice that I'm told would be well suited for dramatic reading.
