The Elder Scrolls Novels Thread #7

Quick question: I know the basic lore of TES. Can I read this book without missing anything, or does it make many references to lore details? Also the events of the book are at the start of the forth era (right after the events of Oblivion)?

and a little off topic came to my mind: where are the events of Shivering Isles placed on the timeline?

You can read it, but there are many niggling little details that only somebody who has delved in will understand.

Have you read articles on the Imperial Library, or just gotten it from the game itself? If the first, you'll understand alot. If the second, you'll be missing out on alot.

I am not sure if someone already mentioned it here, but if you are interested in reading some more samples of the text, you can go to http://www.mobipocket.com/en/eBooks/eBookDetails.asp?BookID=236227, download a free sample and read the prologue and the beginning of part 1: Arrival. However be warned that in that text you can find a very big thing about happened to *some province* in Tamriel. :)

E: Even more text for free (about 2 pages more) is http://www.sharewareebooks.com/previewBook.asp?bfid=14509.

Fortunately I've done my homework from the imperial library, though it's been a while and I dont remember a lot of names or places

Im also in Australia, except i ordered mine through Kangaroo pouch express (er... amazon) and they sent me an email saying i wont get it till 31st of December. I hope they mean thats the lastest date i will receive it. Anyway, i also will be keeping my eyes on my magpies nest (umm... mail box).

Sorry to reply to myself, but no one else has *ahem..amazon!* (that's right, i wanted amazon to come here and reply to me... :P) Anyway, theres been no progress as to the whereabouts of this book, resting in await of my beloved stature unpon thee; unscathed beauty of delightful insights. Clearly i am going insane, and when thou dost make her apperence infront of thy, i will caress her spine and a kiss upon her title with open arms and hungry, hypnotic eyes. I am waiting for you my love.

The novel doesn't even mention the word "Blades", but at one point Prince Attrebus sees a temple with Akaviri architecture:

The only place he'd ever seen with similar architecture was Cloud Ruler Temple, which he had viewed from a distance when he was ten, hunting with his father's traveling court in the mountains north of Bruma. (p. 184)

The Blades' replacement is a service called the Penitus Oculatus. They seem to be almost the same as the Blades, but without the Akaviri armor and traditions; they're plainclothes so far.

The events that happened in Shivering Isles are placed at 4th Era 1.
