The Elder Scrolls Novels Thread #7

1: Any plot discussion outside the samples we already have should be put in spoiler tags for at least a few days after release.

Preferably longer; since I have a habit of tearing apart larger books in a day, and this one's not too thick, I'll be trying to stretch it out for at least 2 or 3 weeks. :D

I figure I'll read it in one go as soon as I get the chance, but see I have no idea how fast or slow the library will get it. So I may have it done with by the 25th but it could be up to a month (when I cave, cancel my library order and buy it based on the sample).

My friends,

I purchased a copy of "The Infernal City" a couple of days ago, even though it was not set to be released until Nov 24th. Am I the only one to have an early copy? I would LOVE to discuss some of the things that it contains (such as the fate of the Dunmer in Morrowind during and after the Oblivion Crisis), but I am awaiting a "go ahead" before I do so.

Be sure not to post any scans or quote large portions to display here. Also, if you do discuss it at all, use spoiler tags. We would like for you not to discuss it at all until the release date. And thanks...

Hey that's cool. Where'd you get it? Internet?

Also, just random appraisal of quality or something? although I am gonna have to agree with Summer as to the other thing:

I really want to read it myself. But I would just like a random 1 to 10 quality appraisal.

I think we could deal with that.

I am happy with it so far. You will not be disappointed. Many of the questions that we have asked are being answered, so I would suggest buying it.

While I don't want the story spoiled for me, maybe we could get some of the interesting lore tidbits that have shown up in the book? (like the sample chapters telling us that Black Marsh had declared independence, and that something bad had happened to Morrowind, and so on)

I'm afraid this will have to wait until Tuesday.

And be put in spoiler tags. Seriously, I remember when I was starting Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone, someone posted one of the many plot twists in it. At the time I didn't know it was one of many, of course, but it still pissed me off.

Comes out tomorrow. I may have it anywhere from tomorrow to a few weeks from now. I may have been the first person to order it (in fact, the library added it to the system and will purchase a copy because I sent an email request to the central library) but if I was also the only it may take some time.

I want the second book to be closer to the time of TES 5, it should explain what's happened over the last century

Will this book be carried in stores? I thought I recalled someone saying Barnes and Noble wouldn't be carrying it in their store (unless it was just a local one), and on Borders' website it said it's not available in stores. However, it could just say that as it isn't released yet, but I don't know.

I don't know if you need to order it or not but I think they will have it on the shelves. After all, they carried the manuels for Oblivon, KoTN and Fallout 3 all right on the shelves.

But who knows how many will buy this. I would imagine most who buy it are fans of Keyes or fans of TES and how many fans of TES won't know about the book until the game is announced and discussed all over the web. Anyone's guess.

Oddly, the book is already being processed at the central library and should be shipped to mine in a few days. That was a nice surprise when I got to work today.

I received an e-mail from Amazon that the book has been shipped to me and should arrive during the first week of December. I'm looking forward to it, since Keyes is an imaginative writer, but I'm going to try to keep my expectations low.

Thanks, Word Merchant. I shall give it huge consideration, which means something since I'm not the type of person to go out of my way to buy books

It wont arrive that soon, but it should. I think that if you preorder a book, it should arive at your home the day it is released. What a crock of [censored].

I preordered mine sometime ago as well, but i'll pry see it in a book store this weekend before i get the thing in the mail. What crap

Yeah, I console myself with the fact that mine's a library order so it's free, but it'll take a while yet.

Anyways, to you lucky bastards who already somehow have it or get it day 1, this is a final reminder less than a dozen hours before release: All plot points and lore discussion in spoiler tags outside the lore forum, and please don't name your lore forum topics "OMG such-and-such happened" because people will see those when they are still on the main forum page or TES Series portal.

Hmpf. According to the Borders website, it's out in Australia, and they have copies in stock. So, I went to every Borders (in fact, every bookstore) in my area, and none had it. In fact, the book database search thing at Borders didn't even seem to think it existed.

So, I've ordered it off the Borders website. Oddly, they say it'll be shipped in 24 hours, but it won't arrive for 7-10 days. They probably have to get it from some warehouse in Sydney or something. But c'mon, that'd take what, a day to arrive? The postal service isn't that terrible!

This book better be worth it.
