The Elder Scrolls RPG

Thanks very much for the encouragement - and no worries, maybe someday you could try and introduce some of your friends to RP with this game when I finish (if you have any friends who are also fans of the games, maybe they will bite). It has certainly been interesting going through and getting this setup, and trying to come up with a decent method to not overwork players or storytellers while still sticking as true to the way the games work (and obviously the lore) as possible to keep things familiar to people. I think the Lore has been the most interesting, especially in areas where I need to attempt to gently expand upon the current available lore to present the game in a full and proper form, but in pretty well every case so far this is small things that will be easy to correct in later updates if they are ever addressed in cannon (the exception to this being to try and develop a full world map of Nirn based off of available lore as best I can - I am sure Akavir will need some revisions there if it is ever touched).

Anyways, again, thanks for the support, and feel free to drop back anytime and look into things here, everyone is welcome to join in and make it a "community project."

One question will you need permission to use this lore for this project?

I know it is okay for mods but this is not a mod!

Probably a good question, and one I can't rightfully answer at the moment.

I am inclined to think it will not be an issue, as it will be released as a non-profit fan made project (like most other Fan Fiction that is produced). This does not mean, though, that I will not be contacting the company before actually releasing the finalized PDF files to ensure there is no issue.

Either way, much like mods, I am doing this more for me than anything as I enjoy RP, so if I can't release it I will still be able to play with my friends and such (and others may be able to do the same by compiling the info I drop in these posts here - the more data I give the closer anyone who reads the thread is to being able to actually play without a fancy digital book).

Thanks very much, though I dare say not very original, but still :)

It has also become my focal TES project since I don't have any of the games installed at present.

Small update, this project has been on a slight hold for the time being due to a lack of available playtesters at the moment. Hopefully I should be able to get a small group together soon, and then it will be on to hammering out anythings that become clear problems after attempted in an actual game. Also want to work out some more dynamic systems, too, before tossing out a PDF.

Probably gonna pick up one of my mod projects again for a little bit, though both got scraqed and are going to be started fresh - might make a new WIP thread later tonight.

This project has been on a long delay, but it will probably get picked back up when I get a little closer to finishing off my other P&P Project that I have been working on recently (and have quite the play testing troupe available to process through it). That one also happens to be based on another Bethesda game as well, and I will probably be using it in some degree as a framework for this project when I decide to jump back at it again (since from the sounds of Skyrim and the updates it will present so far to the game world, that should be right up the proper alley).

So, sorry to folks who had been following this - I am sure a lot of the information present in this thread will now become obsolete as well in a short time, and I am also sorry for the delay on getting it done to begin with.

This is funny because The Elder Scrolls started as a home game of DnD.

Most of the original party members of that game, of course, do not work for Bethedsa anymore. And that's why most of the newer games seem to be somewhat lacking in the "Lore" department. I think the last, best game for lore purposes was Redguard. And what a game, eh?

I have a little experience with crafting RPG systems, myself. I normally focus on modern-future games but the "use it to gain it" principle is something I have always liked.

Indeed, a very interesting concept that I think will probably be staying in this once I get moving forward with it again. The other project, to be fair, is a Fallout P&P that is using the Jason Mical version as a base and then begin heavily modified to better update it for FO 3/NV as well as and also to incorporate some better RPG aspects as well (since in many regards both games are a little lacking in some respects because of their computerized nature).

I've has some experience in the past with creating RPGs as well, one of which I had worked on was called Freelance (that last I knew was still being worked), which was a system designed to be able to easily incorporate a character from almost any game system with little effort. My new tastes tend to be working on more unique and individual systems these days.

Considering some of the moves with TES, it sounds like Skyrim will be taking some of the concepts from FO to utilize, such as Perks and the sort - and I will be looking to bring these in as well. I think the main difference that I will end up seeing between the two systems will be the "use it to raise it" theory, plus the addition of a magical overlay too.
