The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim anolysis

Post » Tue Jan 25, 2011 5:42 am

So Elder scrolls V was just announced.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/vga-10-tba-game-2/708369

Dialog:
Dialogue from the trailer:

"You should have acted.
They’re already here.
The Elder Scrolls told of their return.
Their defeat was merely a delay.
Though the time after Oblivion opened, then the sons of Skyrim would spill their own blood.
But no one wanted to believe; believe they even existed.
And when the truth finally dawns, it dawns in fire.
But, there’s one they fear, in their tongue, is (incomprehensible), Dragon Born."

Any possible suggestions as to what's up? Are we possible going to be(come) the dragon born?

edit: The name of the dragon born sounds like Dovarkim or something similar.

I believe that it is the akaviri tiger-dragons. and the incomprihensible(nova kin?) is nordic for dragon born.(talos?)

I think we need to start looking into what we know of akaviri and go over everything to do with talos. If memory serves me correct isn't there heirs of talos in skyrim? could that be the reason skyrim is fighting itself?

Is it possible that we become an incarnate of Tiber Septim himself? I think that would be cool, and it would be neat to be able to rule Tamriel. (If it ties into Infernal City, it will need to be something that would allow the establishment of the Median Empire.) I can't wait, and I will DEFINITELY be asking for it for my b-day and Christmas. If I don't get it, I will buy the best collectors edition or whatever they do, as I am such a major fan of the series.

I....can't think of anything, only that it will involve dragons (who are likely the antagonists)

Getting past how pumped I am seeing it finally announced, I'm pleased that they'll finally give us some lore where it's been woefully neglected; on dragons.

'Dragon Born' sounds like it's obviously something to do with the same kind of prophecy as to what Talos was involved him (Wulfharth having tried to fufil the prophecy beforehand, but was blasted into ash). You'll also notice in the trailer the 'Dragon Born' has a dragon-like mouth with a tongue coming out of it, indicating the 'Dragon Born' can use the Thu'um, further connection with Talos/etc.

Hopefully they don't ignore the lore from Redguard regarding dragons (the only reliable lore we really have).

Now that I rewatched the trailer I believe the (nova kin) however it is spelled is the tounge of the dragons not nordic.

I don't know anything about anything, especially in my crazed state of excitement, but my initial impression is that it'll involve the Akaviri. Something seems to click thematically about "evil" dragons being linked to akavir, and for the Akaviri to invade Skyrim.

That would make logical sense as well, wouldn't it? If they were invading, they wouldn't come in through Morrowind at this point.
Wait. What point is this? Do we have a confirmed timeframe?

P.S. The UESP says that the name is "Novak'leen"

Edit: Also, the trailer refers to "their defeat". How would that make sense, referring strictly to dragons? I don't know much dragon lore. It seems like it's meaning the Akaviri. After all, they've been "defeated" many times in history.

Wow I'm very excited for this! and it's coming out relatively soon! I wonder if the Thu'um will be used as it is in the PGE? or if it will be present at all. I imagine that akavar will be the main threat, but I don't know...

The music definitely had a sort of foreign feel to it; but with the chanting men, I'd say it's more Nordic than Morrowind-ish.
I don't recall where the nerevarine was called dragon born...?

Edit: Nevermind, found it. In http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:The_Lost_Prophecy.
But I think it's simply referring to the fact that he was born an outlander, in the Empire... the "Dragon".

Sounds like he will be making ergonomic swords or something.

I thought it was "Nova-chim" to be honest.

But I can hear the "d" in it now.

Oh! You're right!

Good ear!

You may also notice they slipped the Oblivion theme in there, near the end.

I think that's a good sign. :D
