The Elder Scrolls Travels - PSP & nDS

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:16 pm

Alright, from now on, let's show the developers how much we actually want a real TES game in our pockets where ever we go.

This thread is about The Elder Scrolls Travels, and to make it clear and new for everyone to enjoy, let it be a new beginning...
It will include mayor suggestions, but before you write even a one, please anolyze the needs of others alike, thus making the idea more or less believable and possible.

I myself am an owner of a PSP, and never held a Nintendo system, though i respect it as much as I do Sony's, so i leave the nDS part for those who use it.

Alright, so for everyone to easily overlook what ideas and comments they seek in this thread, ill make a system for you. Just copy/paste the big single title word in the first line of your post to make it clear and stand out:

Voice
- Suggestion that mainly includes naming or anything related to words or dialogues.

Environment - Anything related to world, map, nature and so on.

System - Anything related to game system. Like how fighting, questing, control and so on should perform.

Feature - What features should the game bring.

Miscellaneous - Anything that just doesn't belong to the titles listed above.

These go on the top of your post, ONLY if it is a suggestion, if needed, this shall be the following after the suggestion:

* * *

(copy/paste) If under the suggestion you are posting anything else, like speaking with other people or quoting.
If youre just talking, you dont need any of these titles in your post as long as there isnt any suggestion...

I think i don't need to explain anything more about what i mean, I'd rather post my own suggestion as I will, and i will as long as i have time for it.

And the line I told before in one of TES Travels topic: "I believe these developers, and only these people together can do it - be the first, and push the next gen portable systems to the limit." The Elder Scrolls has more than enough potential to lay tons of reviews rated 10 of 10. It does NOT have to be as big as the stationary systems versions of Elder Scrolls, neither a supreme graphics somewhere near PS3 and X360.

PSP's UMD disc can hold up to 1.8GB of disk space, nDS slightly less, but that doesn't mean it cant be good either.

Ill sketch up a world map on a paper and scan, then upload it here on this thread to give a suggestion for Environments. In a few days you should see some of my ideas popped on another post here.
The size might seem huge for an UMD to hold, but if they make beta demo version of this game that will include most content of the game that can be tested and need to be tested first, and learn the player bug reports of the content that is or is not necessary, the mistakes meant to be in a game will be pulverized, greatly reducing the size of the game in UMD.

Enough writing for now, I will post an example of how as suggestion post with parallel quoting should look like...

This is just an example post of what a suggestion should look like, your suggestion goes in this part.

This is just an example post of what a casual post should look like after a suggestion post, to avout double-posting, here goes your quotes and text you just want to say.

D-Pad down - Switch weapon down (or items in hands)
D-Pad left - Qucik Slot left
D-Pad right - Quick Slot right
Left shift - Use left hand
Right shift - Use right hand
L + R - Cast Quick slot (magic or item that are manually added to the slots on UI (about 5-10 slots max)
Square + Cross - Hold to sneak

anolog Stick up - Move Forwards

I'd love to see this game come to PSP. I would suggest to make it look as similar to TES IV: Oblivion as possible but obviously in portable form. Features such as character creation, customising weapons and armour, guilds and sidequests are a MUST...:foodndrink:

Environment

This is what i made and scanned just before 3 minutes (the overall it took about 20+ minutes). A simple idea of how the world map could look like, but there is no point on continuing writing about it, the places and lore for it, because I'm waiting for somebody else to show their ideas, and there is point on continuing something like this only if most people here consider the idea good. But after all, the final word goes to the developers.

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/4ee182e6fa.jpg

Yeah i thought of a continent (virtually maybe around half of the size of Vvanderfell). Shouldn't be too hard to pull off, neither it will feel small on a portable console. But i assume that world and environment consumes a lot of memory on and UMD for PSP, or a Chip or what ever was it for the nDS.

The Island on the left side of the left continent has 2 harbors connected with the continent, each might be for a faction or guild, and the isle in lore, would be the center of their war... (blah... blah...)

At the southern side of the smaller continent are those pointy "horns", which are made of the southern ocean crashing into the continent. The southern ocean in lore would be slept peacefully for a very long time, until 'something' happened that awoke the winds coming from 'somewhere' thus those waters became most dangerous ever to be known...
The eastern ocean is the biggest of all...
Then the mid-sea which, of course is in between the two continents, and the safest way of sailing...
All 5 isles you see there are pretty much important to the geography and would be critical in main story line.
I seperated continental parts with soft lines...

P.S. Don't mind the letters, they dont really matter. :)

MISC

I, personally, have been awaiting rumors on TES: PSP since I read it in my PSM years back. Within my opinion, the TITLE of the game should be based like God of War: Chains of Olympus... basically a mid-point between the GOW1 and GOW2, but the title relvant to something within the story. Make the game, obviously based on TES: Oblivion, but maybe with a side story RELATING through TES 3 - IV. Maybe what happens to the Nerevar after he defeats Dagoth Ur, maybe he has something to do with Dagon in IV openingthe gates of Oblivion... anything really. As creative as Morrowind and Oblivion both were, I'm sure an action packed TES game can be jampacked into a PSP UMD and a lower-res version for the DS Cartridge.

If the title begins with "The Elder Scrolls"...the only thing I can say is:

SOLD

For example, look at Test Drive Unlimited. The island is enormous! Though TES version could be smaller, but better graphics and gameplay for that penalty.

This is perhaps my favorite thread on this website, yet it is by far the most superfluous. It goes without saying that an ES game would make a fine portable (just as it goes without saying for any game) as long as it fulfills some basic requirements for portables and that series. It wouldn't need to be 3d or have voice acting so theoretically the game devs would devote more time to what matters, mechanics and story that breaks convention in standard lore telling. However, this could only be achieved in the time span it takes to create a big console game, like Oblivion, because what they have done so far is simply create Travels that act as filler quests in between releases, or release a bad port of an existing title (Oblivion). But yes, there is potential here and I think Beth will try it someday, though I doubt for the current gen.

I have a PSP, but I can't see myself buying this, even if I am a fan of the franchise.

I can se TES on a DS, and i can even se a collector edition with both Arena and Daggerdall(small engine swap+ it can now be compressed). A little experimentin with GUI or low-poly 3D models in MM9 style as replacement if people are too much of grapic nubs.

Environment

Lots of comments on this board about how the PSP couldn't handle it, anyone who thinks that should see Crisis Core. General environment for wandering around and accumulating quests is excellent, the missions on CC are essentially defined dungeons.

I really cannot see how a limited version of Oblivion could not work.
Limited as in overall storyline, obviously no user mods, but NPC's, quests and some dungeons would translate very nicely.

nDS in a lesser way, from what I have seen of nDS games it is aimed at a much younger audience.

I've got an nDS. I mostly use it for homebrews and ports, like DooM and Quake, and such, but a Elder Scrolls games would be an welcome addition. I do own a few DS "Native" games, and for the most part they could have been made for kids, based on the graphics and such, but the gameplay would probably be a bit hard to grasp for the younger audience.
Graphics might not be as nice as the PSP, but the dual-screen would allow for a bit more seamless gameplay, as in not having to open up the journal and inventory and such (though a pause button might be good to have in the situations that you need it). I'm not sure how the open environment can be done, but considering that Quake could be ported to it, a game that normally would require 4 times the memory that the DS actually contain, I suppose that a real game developer could figure something out there too.

Ow! And i thought this thread was bond to die anyway. But you just look at this! :D

I saw at gamespot that they've changed release date from cancelled to TBA. :)
Lately Square Enix has been promising some exclusives for PSP, and I'm aware that there will be even better graphics than CC.

It is really not that important to beat them in graphics, but to hit these consoles with something new that has never been made for them before. They should leave graphical enhancements after gameplay, and yeah, voice acting doesn't need to be massive, just enough for some cut-scenes and main storyline.

I have a PSP, Both Oblivion and Morrowind have defined the RPG genre. I would love to see either one of these games in some way, shape or form. when i first saw that oblivion might be coming to the PSP i had to grab one. Then seeing what other games there were available I really had to grab one. So much for my rambling it would blow my mind to play Oblivion a game i love so much on PC if it were ported to the PSP like I said in any way, shape, or form. Could be good with a top down third person type view.

The problem with this is that because of various technical and physical disadvantages with handheld consoles limits Beth's scope. I'd love to see a new ES Travels game - I loved the old ones - but it wouldn't be the same as the main series; some people would not like this, of course.

Well they made an Elder Scrolls for mobile phones, and those are even more limited devices. If they made it for either the PSP or DS they would also have alot more success!
