Is The Elder Scrolls your gaming comfort blanket?

Post » Fri Jan 10, 2014 2:45 am

Hey it's me xbenblasterx coming at you for a second time today! (Seriously I love this forum!)

This one's a little bit of shameless self promotion, I've written a short post over on my own blog site here http://lifeizagame.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/what-i-want-in-2014/ and I'd really appreciate some feedback from you guy's. It's about how recently due to the lapse in release of new games over the holiday period, I've actually found the time to return to Epic games such as Skyrim.

It got me wondering Is Skyrim the one game like a good ol' friend that you can always depend upon to simply fall back into once your own unplayed list has died down. I really appreciate games like Skyrim because I know I can always pick it up and find something to do! Even when I'm stuck trying to find something new to play, Skyrim or any other Elder Scrolls title is there to pick up the slack!

Is The Elder Scrolls your gaming comfort blanket?

You might want to post that link in your signature. The rules of the forum and the mods dont allow self promotion.

I always keep coming back to Skyrim. It is my comfort game. If I'm bored and just want to tool around in something I'll play for a bit. I take breaks now and then. Like right now I am on my 8th or so complete with all DLC Mass Effect series play through. Its a nice break but I know when I am done I'll be right back in the Skyrim world again.

No matter what I always come back. :)

I will leave this thread open. However, we do not usually allow posts advertising blogs or other websites.

However, do add a link in your signature called something like My Blog, keep the font small and reasonable, use other forum signatures as a guide here.

Now, to answer your question. TES games have always appealed to me as I don't always have two or three hours to play a game. But, I can load up a game like Oblivion or Skyrim and do one quest or explore one dungeon and it only takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete one of those. I can then see if I have time to do some more or take care of Real Life. Most games require more of a time commitment to make the session worth while, especially those who only let you save in certain places.

I do get lost in the game. I play it to relax. I play it when I'm stressed. I play it for long sessions. I will take a break from time to time. some breaks are much longer than others. But I always come back to it. This game NEVER EVER gets old. You can know the dialogue for NPC's or quest givers or whatever and know all the ins and outs of this game but it still has so much play value. Thats the sign of an epic masterpiece.

I guess I could say it's my "gaming-comfort-blanket." But truthfully, my game list is extremely limited. I have simply lost all interest in games that are not TES or Fallout.

I'm faithfully married to Skyrim after my divorce from Oblivion, sure I'll check out other games but none hold my attention or a place in my heart like Skyrim does :tes:

This is me as well, being able to save on the spot and play at your own pace is a big selling point of these games for one who doesn't always have time to play.

I feel the same (about TES only) and I have several games that I haven't finished yet I prefer to play Skyrim and create new characters instead. I have GTA 5 which I played for about a week or so then set aside for Skyrim and the funny thing is I have little desire to play it, even after a friend offered to give me $50 million online to play...I told him I'm too busy tracking down Miraak

Oblivion is my alltime favorite game and that game made me further fall in love with RPG's. Skyrim is no exception, I love that game a lot. Is it perfect, no but what Skyrim offers it's just so much fun playing it.

Ever since I started playing Skyrim I have lost interest in almost every other game. I do play other games but they never keep me interested for long.

6,700+ hours and still loving it.

tes is simply the best video game(s) ever.

a multiplayer fps can't even qualify. halo can due to its single player campaign.

gta is a joke.

Oblivion is my "go to" game of which I can always find fun and interesting things to do. Skyrim, is only second to this. New Vegas, third, and the rest fall in behind them.

For me, yes, that, along with Fallout 3 (though haven't played it since Skyrim came out), X3:Reunion (my trading empire has taken actual years to develop) and Rome: Total War (with the Europa Barbarorum mod)

Pretty much this, except Skyrim falls lower on my list, and with more games, The Sims, Civilization, Masters of Orion, Pokemon, and Might and Magic also fall on my comfort blanket list.

Morrowind, Oblivion and then Skyrim have been my mainstays although Mount&Blade is close. I don't play anything else except for a very occasional trip back to Gothic 2/3.

lol, if attributes aren't relevant than: no.

if factions aren't relevant than: no.

I want , I demand all new single player games assassinate multi and vote for micro-management.

It's a game I come back to, but not as the come back to be-all, end-all.

That would belong to either Aardwolf (online multiplayer) or Phantasy Star (the original Master System version, single player).

Definitely before the next TES release.

This.

There are so few games that I still play after 2 years and skyrim is one of em.

Even when I get burned out from it, 3 days later I find myself playing it again haha.
