I think the elves somehow look like the Navi race from the movie Avatar.Especially the Dark Elves.Not all of them,but there are many that resemble the Navi.Probably because the distance between their eyes are too wide.

I just wondered if I was the only one bothered by it.

I didn't get that at all - the Navi seem much more soft looking and cartoony to me.

dark elves have been out longer so the navi resemble them ((and i dont see it... but i didn't see the movie sooo :/ )

Navis are what child of a dunmer and khajiit would look like.
