The Elves' language

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 4:37 pm

Do the Elves have their own language? Does anybody know where I can find a list of sayings (along with a pronunciation guide or something ...)? I'm asking because I'm in the process of doing extra VA stuff for Skyrim and I thought it would be 'neat' if the Elves sometimes greeted the player in their mother tongue.

Not all elves have the same language. What race are you playing?

I'm not doing this for me- I want to make it available for downloading on SkyrimNexus. Ideally, someone here would point me to a collection of non-human sayings or words that I can then pick through, decipher and record.

Anyone?

All mer have their own language, though it's mostly derivatives of Aldmeri. Only Dwemeri is independent of Aldmeri, as far as I know.

What I meant was "what race do you need words for?" We have pretty good vocabularies for Dunmer, Ayleid, and general Ehlnofex, but they're quite different. Your best bet in general would be TIL's dictionary which Moophl linked.

Ayleid is pretty different, too.

Does TES have any 'Nonhuman' language that is complete. Or at least close to it.

Like De'shineth of the D&D Drow.

Isn't Ayleidic a rip-off of Quenya?

rip-off, or easter egg teaser for people-in-the-know?

I can already see names straight out of Tolkien. Pretty sure -iel / -riel means "Beauty" in LotR elven just as it does in TES. Dawn's Beauty, Tamriel. Bosriel (the baby in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:2920,_The_Last_Year_of_the_First_Era#Book_Eight:_Last_Seed), Beauty of the Forest.

Or just ripoffs.

.... imperial ...-el. -al. beauties of the empire? ... ...
