The Empire's Chaos

Zalphon, I think mALX has an excellent idea. As Kalara becomes more feminine, you will find writing for her becomes more and more different. Normally writing a main character of your own six is easier, since you can call upon your own perspective. If you want to try writing the part of a feminine woman, go for it - just beware how different it is. This brings me back to mALX's suggestion. Work with both. Yes, allow Kalara to become more feminine. Experiment and see if you and your readers are happy with you writing from a woman's perspective. Don't decide yet is what I'm suggesting.

Hmm, mALX I like your idea.

Edit: But I like Acadian's as well... Hmmm, I will experiment with Acadian's for the next few chapters and see the reviews, if they like it, then Kalara will be the permenant form, if not then Sheogorath will have fun. The reason I did this is, because a good author can do one character well, a great one can do many well. Look at Stephen King's first book "Carrey" it was written in 1st person view of a teenage girl. May just be I idolize Stephen King, but...

Stay Gold, Kalara

Kalara walked with the necromancers. She was nervous, but ready for combat at a moment's notice. "Well, thanks to Sheogorath, I have a good disguise... I guess," she thought. The necromancers were quiet as they travelled down the dirt roads of the Shivering Isles. A fat little creature called a grummite charged.

The leader of the necromancers barked, "Kill the little beast."

They all muttered under their breaths and suddenly bolts of poison darted from their fingertips into the grummite's chest. It shrieked in anguish as it gripped its chest, but it fell over shortly after. Kalara suggested, "Should we bury it, as an honorable burial?"

The leader hissed, "Listen you golden wench, if you don't stop speaking, I'll cut your tongue out."

"This is Dementia all right, the people are rude and hateful," the Golden Saint thought.

As they continued walking the scenery grew darker, duller, and felt depressing. The place had the aroma of rotting flesh, shrieks of sheer terror could be heard, and it gave an aura of depression. The golden saint trekked with the necromancers, she had a frown on her yellow-skinned face. Dementia had a cold feeling, like death. Kalara walked, even as the breeze froze her legs, her arms, her neck, her face. The necromancers also frowned, but they wore black robes and hoods, unlike the metal-armored woman. As the hours passed, the constellations began to come back again, but they moved. Sheogorath was in the west, the grummite was in the north, the elyos was in the east, and in the south was the golden seducer.

Kalara pondered, "The golden seducer, a seducer on the right, and a saint on the left, how very odd."

They reached the tip of the Mad God's Boot, and there Raminus stood. He had a frown and his eyebrows were bent to show an expression of anger. He asked, "Who is this, Disciples?"

The Leader answered, "This is a golden saint, the Mad One sent for you, to take you back to New Sheoth."

"Is that so, well saint tell your master I have no desire to go back."

Raminus muttered under his breath a spell and Kalara was in front of the Mad God. He cheerfully asked, "Where is Raminus?"

Kalara responded, "He refused to come back."

Sheogorath's grin turned into a frown, but only for a split second, "Well the longer he is away, the longer you are in that body."

She sighed and walked to the Golden Saint Barracks. She removed her armor and set it at the foot of her bed and slept. The next day would be long. Kalara sighed and turned over. She dreamed that night of being trapped in her bed. Then it changed to not being able to speak. The nightmares continued throughout the night, when she awoke, sweat was dripping from her golden locks of hair onto her skin. Kalara put on her uniform, except the helmet, which for some reason was missing. She then started walking to the Mad God's Boot.

Sorry for so much dialogue.

Also, Stay Gold, Kalara is a reference to the Outsiders

Cool twist Z.!
You have created a nice opportunity of using kalarn/kalara's internal struggle of the transition.
A small thing: Why not
The leader of the necromancers pointed and barked:"Kill it!"?

The Deal of Madness: Complete

The cold breeze whisked past Kalara. The golden cuirass kept her chest freezing, and the small scalemail skirt was barely anything against the wind. As she walked, the grummites stood there, not attacking, but glaring ready to kill. Kalara's fear was at its max, clouding her thoughts.

"What if they attack me, what if they try to kill me, what will I do," Kalara wondered. She continued walking, her eyes observed what moved around her. The creatures had their bows pulled tightly, but held them as well. A soft, high pitched, voice was heard in front of her on the road, "This is Dementia, we're in charge here."

"You seducers make me sick," a deeper voice barked.

"Learn your place, Saint."

Kalara walked up and seen a Dark Seducer and a Golden Saint arguing. The Dark Seducer hissed, "Get out of here, Golden Wench."

The Golden Saint hissed, "Come back, please."

Kalara continued walking past them, wondering, "What if this would come back to haunt her?" She was alone with only her own thoughts for hours, once again the constellations changed place in the night.

Sheogorath's constellation looked down at the golden saint and chuckled, "Sleep, Saint, sleep."

Kalara gulped and removed her armor and covered up in a blanket underneath a tree. It was cold that night, but after several minutes she finally got to sleep. This time her dreams were of hatred, war, and betrayal. When she awoke she reached for her armor and discovered her skin was darker. It finally struck her, "Sheogorath changed me into a dark seducer."

Her skirt had been changed to a black skirt with bars of metal, instead of scales. Her cuirass was no longer a cuirass, but a black, metallic bra. Her boots were smaller and dark brown, and her gloves were as black as night and went up to her elbow. Once again she had no helmet. She looked at her hair and noticed it was blacker than ebony. The Dark Seducer sighed as she got up and put on the boots. Then she donned the skirt, and now the bra which felt restrictive. She pulled on her gloves and continued walking. She would reach Raminus soon, and then she would talk to him, as "his chief of the guard."

Kalara managed to keep walking until she found Raminus sitting on a black stool. She said to him, noticing her voice was higher pitched, "Raminus, Sheogorath has sent me, it is I, the head of the Crucible Guard."

Raminus rose a brow, "Ah, yes, Sheogorath sent you, well we better go."

The dark seducer thought with a grin, "Ah, Sheogorath did this to help me."

Then she heard his voice, "No it is a gift of the curse."

Raminus muttered under his breath and they were in New Sheoth Palace. Sheogorath smiled and asked, "Duke, how have your studies been?"

Raminus replied, "Excellent, Milord."

Sheogorath turned to the dark seducer, "Now for my part of the deal."

Kalara replied, "Yes."

The Mad God muttered under his breath and Kalara was once again Kalarn, "Oh, you'll change every three days to a different gender and race, part of my gift to you, Kalara, I mean Kalarn."

Kalarn sighed deeply and looked down, he still had the dark seducer outfit on. He frowned and said to Raminus, "Mind speaking to me, Duke?"

Raminus nodded, "Yes, but first get some decent clothes on."

Kalarn reached into his pack and took off the dark seducer armor and put on some black pants, black boots, black shirt, black gloves, a black cape, a black hood, and a black scarf. He sat walked with Raminus, ready to discuss the Mages' Guild.

This is fun to read and you have a nice twist going. You seem to be handling writing from a man or woman's perspective ok for now, but 'tis still early to tell. If you choose to develop your characters in detail, this will become more important.

"What if they attack me, what if they try to kill me, what will I do," Kalara wondered.
Kalara is a woman, and displaying a degree of vulnerability is a good thing; However, do you mean for her to sound quite this helpless?

'Kalara walked up and seen a Dark Seducer and a Golden Saint arguing.'
GRRRR! Saw!

'Kalarn reached into his pack and took off the dark seducer armor and put on some black pants, black boots, black shirt, black gloves, a black cape, a black hood, and a black scarf. He sat walked with Raminus, ready to discuss the Mages' Guild.'
I would find a better way to indicate the consistent color of his outfit besides saying black seven times. The last sentence (sat walked) does not make sense.

I would keep going on your plot path for now and see how it goes. ;)

Discussing the Mages' Guild

Raminus conjured a table and two chairs. Kalarn sat down in one and noticed it felt, comftorable. They were speaking in the Palace of Sheogorath, but Kalarn still had an urge to tear Raminus' heart out for what he did to him. Raminus stated, "Ah, yes the Mages' Guild and House Mora."

Kalarn let out a deep sigh. It was obvious he was annoyed by Raminus, but he sat there for a second, pondering his next question. He simply replied, "Yes, that topic, and the curse I've been bestowed for following you."

Raminus turned pale white. He sunk back in his chair, out of fear of the Blade. He nervously conjured a glass of clear water and drank it. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, the necromancer was horribly terrified. Rightfully so. He pulled a large cloth bag of septims and handed them to Kalarn, "Here, take these septims, and we'll call it even."

The Blade pushed the bag across the room. His eyes were like fiery seas of lava, he was obviously irritated. The stood up and slammed his fists on the table, "Raminus, you need to get one side of the Mages' Guild gone, it is causing problems for the Empire. You see, when your mages fight, they assume that everyone that teleports to their guildhall is a spy, or they see another mage and try to kill him."

The Archmage conjured a rag and wiped the sweat from his forehead. His eyes were irradiating with fear. The Archmage was afraid that Kalarn would kill him. "I'll inform the legion of all known House Mora hideouts and they'll take care of it," Raminus seriously told Kalarn.

The Dunmer asked, "Shall we go back to Cyrodiil?"

The mage muttered under his breath and a small circular portal opened. They both entered, finally back in the Imperial City. Now Kalarn had more business to take care of, the Fighters' Guild. He gently smiled and thought, "I've saved the Mages' Guild, I am a hero."

He then frowned as he pondered, "But I still have much to do."

I see that you are trying to develop the character of Kalarn some? and doing a nice job of it. It helps to know what is going on inside his head.

'Kalarn sat down in one and noticed it felt, comftorable.'
Comfortable.

'The Blade pushed the bag across the room.'
Pushing the bag across the room sounds odd. Perhaps you mean he pushed the bag across the table? (As if to return it to Raminus).

'His eyes were irradiating with fear.'
Irradiation is the process by which an item is exposed to radiation. I am not sure it is the word you want. It looks odd to me in this context. Would you be better with 'His eyes radiated fear'?

You continue to improve! Keep showing what is going on inside the heads of your characters. :goodjob:

Sheogorath's Deal

"The sun is setting, I should find an inn," Kalarn thought.

The Imperial City had a tranquil aura about it as the sun set. The day was over, but the night wasn't quite here, it was a twilight zone. The citizens made their way to their homes and sat down to eat dinner. The night was on its way, and Kalarn was in the Talos Plaza. He walked up to a tavern labeled, "The King and Queen Inn." When he walked in, the place was gleaming with life, and the innkeepers had a large smile. They were two bosmer, both looking to be in their sixties.

Kalarn asked, "Can I get a room, please?"

The male innkeep smiled, "Forty septims please, we'll allow you to pick between wolf meat and nix-hound meat for dinner with honey mead and in the morning you can have boar meat and tamika 399 wine."

"All right," Kalarn said as he dug into his pocket and pulled out forty septims. He put them on the table and sat at a nearby table. Kalarn shouted across the room, "Nix-Hound Meat."

The aroma of freshly cooked stew filled the tavern, the pvssyr of patrons and the music of the bards also was there. It was a rather clean tavern, but with what they charged, Kalarn wasn't surprised. Finally the female bosmer came over with a silver plate in hand, roasted nix-hound meat with chopped carrots and potatoes along with a bottle of honey mead. Kalarn smiled, "Thank you, Miss."

The elderly bosmer nodded and started to walk away. The Dunmer enjoyed his meal, he ate it over an hour savoring every bite of it. It reminded him of being back home in Balmora. Finally he finished his meal and walked up the stairs to his room. He took off his clothing and slipped into bed.

He had strange dreams about bosmer that night. About their rituals where they cannabalized each other. The morning was cold, after all it was the first of Frostfell. He got up and stretched. Kalarn walked over to a mirror in his room and seen his skin was a deep tan, his hair was brown, and it fell to his shoulders. He noticed he was a bosmer and said into the mirror, "Sheogorath, that fetcher."

Kalara shrieked, noticing that once again, he was a woman. "Sheogorath, that liar," The Bosmer thought.

The Mad God appeared right next to her and said, "Do you honestly expect the God of Madness to keep a schedule? If you do then you're crazy. You will change races and genders at random."

The Bosmer sighed, "Why, Sheogorath?"

"You're a fetcher."

"No, just a merrymaker, oh you may want this," Sheogorath said as he handed her a coarse linen skirt.

Kalara put on the skirt, put on her boots, and got on her black shirt. The rest of her clothes she put in her pack, and started to sneak out of the tavern. As she stepped down the stairs, the tavern steps creaked. The male innkeeper looked and noticed Kalara and shouted, "Guards, a thief!"

Kalara sighed, "Ah yes, they didn't let Kalara the Bosmer in, they let Kalarn the Dunmer in."

The Bosmer started running out the door and noticed guards surrounded her. The Guard Captain hissed, "Come with us, you're going to the Imperial Prison for a few days, Wench."

The newly transformed bosmer, felt shackles go around her wrists and started walking with them to the prison. "Joy, I get to be a prisoner," Kalara thought.

Kalara the Prisoner

Kalara sat there in her cell, sitting, patiently. "What did I do to get in here, oh yes, Sheogorath," The Bosmer thought.

She sat there in the same cell the Champion once sat in. It was cold in here, and across the hall from her was an argonian. He had spines emitting from his head in a crown-like pattern. The argonian's legs were bent in the middle and he light green scales. He asked, "What are you in here for?"

Kalara paced in her cell, nervously looking at the bones, "Sleeping in the bed of a tavern I didn't pay for."

The argonian laughed, "You're going to die in here."

The bosmer poured herself a drink of the water from the clay pitcher. She sipped the water and tasted of filth and wastes. Kalara gagged on the water, but managed to choke it down. She would be spending some time in here, or would she? "Perhaps I can get out of here," Kalara pondered.

She reached into her skirt pocket and pulled out a lockpick, with delight she shoved it into the lock and fiddled with it. The tumblers ticked into place, whether through luck or skill, the lock was open. Kalara smiled and held the door closed, she'd leave tonight and pray Sheogorath would change her race, or at least her gender. The smile was short lived when the argonian shouted, "This woman picked the lock on her cell."

The jailor came in and saw Kalara. He pulled open the door and hissed, "You Wench." The imperial grabbed her arms and dragged her to the same cell as the argonian. He slammed the door shut and locked it. Kalara sighed deeply and started pacing.

"Oh no, I am trapped here," Kalara worried. She punched at the argonian. The argonian laughed as he grabbed her angry fists and put them down at her side.

"Oh, you're a foolish wood elf, thats for sure," the argonian stated. As Kalara got closer she noticed he smelled of rotten fish the scent was disgusting. She sighed and looked out the window and noticed it was beginning to turn to night. The bosmer removed her clothing and covered up in the bedroll, she comftorably wrapped herself up in the blanket and began to sleep. It was cold with only a blanket for warmth, but she managed to get sleep...

The next morning she awoke the next day and the argonian was gone. She let out a deep sigh and sat down...

Fighting with the Fighters' Guild

The slop drudge came in with a bucket of mush. He was a young imperial lad, he was about average height, with dark brown hair, and a pale skin. He dipped his laddle into the mush and dripped the mush onto the floor. Kalara let out a deep sigh as she went to eat her meal. She hadn't eaten in a day, and would rather take her chances with this than nothing. It tasted worse than a horse, but she managed to shovel it down her throat with her fingers. The guard came in and noticed her eating the slop, "Ready for your release, what is it?"

"Verah Shadowsong," She lied.

"Ah yes," the guard stated as he opened the gate and let her out. He shoved a small golden key into the shackles around her wrists and turned it, then around her ankles. The sense of freedom was mystical. Kalara walked out of the prison and smiled. Now she had to speak to local Fighters' Guild leader.

The stone was cold under her feet, it was still day, but her feet were bare. She waded through the citizens, hundreds of thousands of them walking about the city. "Finally," Kalara thought as she saw the Guild Hall. As she ran towards it and pulled open the door. There a tall elderly redguard with an ebony suit of armor stood. On his briastplate it was engraved, "Azzan."

She asked, "You're the local guild master right?"

Azzan smiled weakly, "Yes, but these are dark times." He frowned, "The guild is in trouble and we need help so we don't kill each other for leadership."

The Bosmer nodded, "I could help with that, Azzan, perhaps we could take care of this in a peaceful manner."

"Please," Azzan sarcastically stated, "We're a guild of warriors, there will be blood."

Kalara sighed and nodded. She asked, "Perhaps I can minimize the blood lost?" The redguard stood there for a moment. His brow was raised, his face was stern and in a frown. He sighed deeply.

"I have been in this guild many years, Bosmer, and I know this will result in blood, and lots of it," The Redguard said grimly, "But, perhaps you can help lessen some of it."

The Bosmer smiled cheerfully. Her face was as excited as a child getting a sweetroll. Kalara nodded and started walking out the door, "I'll talk to you in a bit, Azzan, I have some diplomacy to take care of."

Azzan sighed deeply, but he knew he couldn't stop the vibrant young bosmer. Kalara had a lot of bounce to her step as happy as she was. Today she was going to sleep in the sewers, but tomorrow she would get to go to Kvatch and see what has happened to the place she fought at so long ago. The Bosmer found a grate and pulled it open and slid down the ladder. She was going to scavenge some food and blankets from the sewers and get comftorable...

I'm a nord?

Kalara gently set up her bed, laying several blankets on top of each other and a pillow made of feathers. She smiled weakly, glad to have a bed where she could sleep. The dark sewers dripped and had a depressing aura, but for whatever reason the Bosmer felt at peace. Walking towards her was a rat. Its beady little eyes were intimidating, but she gently pat its head and handed it a piece of cooked meat.

"Life is something new, always something new," Kalara happily thought. She opened her pack and pulled out some cooked venison. As her teeth sank into it, her mouth exploded with flavor. The Bosmer quickly drank some mead, out of fear her taste would die out if this sensation continued.

Several minutes passed as she ate her meal, it was savory. Finally she covered herself in blankets and took off her clothes and let herself sleep. As she struggled to sleep, the puddles made dripping noises due to the leaks above. The Bosmer finally let sleep invade her mind. That night she dreamt of nords in Skyrim, fighting off House Redoran.

Kalara awoke peacefully, unaware of what time it was. She gripped her skirt and noticed her skin wasn't a golden tan anymore, but a pale tone. The pale-skinend bosmer looked into a puddle and saw she was no longer a bosmer or a woman, but a nord. Kalarn let out a deep sigh and noticed this time his clothes hadn't changed, he was still in women's undergarments. The nord sighed deeply, knowing he had only the clothes fit for a woman to wear he'd have to come up with a great story. He put on the shirt and pulled up the skirt.

He climbed up the ladder and pushed open the sewer grate. He had only what was in the skirt-pockets and that wasn't much, a few septims and a chunk of rat meat. A tall blonde-haired woman obviously of nordic blood came over and saw him. She asked, "What in the name of Akatosh are you doing in women's clothing, Brother Nord."

"It's a long story, but if you have time and insist," The cross-dressing nord said.

She nodded excitedly and said, "Get back in those sewers quick, before someone sees you like that."

They climbed down the ladder, together. The dripping of the sewers was becoming a nusiance now. He stated, "In my clan, if a warrior disgraces himself in battle, he must wear the clothing of a woman until he redeems his honor." He continued, "I was only a lad at the time, and got afraid of all the dunmer. So I ran away, when I came back, the dunmer were dead, but so were many of my kin. The shaman of our clan called me a coward and sent me to help with the women. For years I labored with them, but when I saw my father's shame, I couldn't bare it, so I left. Now I will regain my honor, by joining the Fighters' guild."

The female nord rose a brow and stated, "Interesting story; what was your name now?"

Kalarn lied, "Riverwind."

She smiled and said, "Come back to my house in the Temple District, we can get you fed and off, Riverwind."

He smiled, happy to get some food.
