The Enclave: Patriots or Misguided Traitors?

Why did you put "Prime Humans" in quotes? Just out of curiousity.

Because the Enclave has a bigoted way. You're either a pure human, or your prey.

you're forgetting Marcus who helped bring down the Enclave at the Oil Rig..so 3 people..

Don't know about you but I'm pretty sure I saw a bunch of Brotherhood soldiers and a gigantic god-robot known as Optimus Liberty Prime bring down the Enclave in Fallout 3.

Actually you might as well change the "chosen one and Lone Wanderer" to "Chosen One and Liberty Prime" because if it hadn't been for that last-minute supposedly unbeatable robot, the Enclave wouldn't have fallen in Fallout 3.

pssshhhh, i took out he entire raven rock facility by myself.
I surely could have got around a few generator shields if there were an in game shovel that could be used outside of point lookout.

Chaos?

how about a better life for the common wastelander.

But nah, Genocide is cooler right.

Oh and give me a break. In Broken Steel you take down an entire portable enclave base and half a million of their soldiers, oh and raven rock, and then everything else with a the help of a dumb robot that occasionally shoots guy and and steps on you.

They would be over-run, how can 1'000 people and an Oil Rig possibly help the NCR, for example, which outnumbers them, in 2242, by a factor of x700; besides the NCR doesn't have a clean reputation when it comes to smaller, technologically advanced people whom won't be annexed cough *Vault City* cough *NCR sub-contracted criminals* cough *For better medical tech*.

Oh sorry, forgot to respond to you. Yes, so since they are low in numbers the only possible solution is to kill off a lot of people so you have less to help.

"and laziness, Breeds stupidity America!"

Enclave could've had more people too. But nope, too elitist to recruit. Kind of reminds me of another tech craving association...

Yeah....what?

Point is, the LW could never have gotten into Project Purity in-game without Liberty Prime. Its impossible.

Also you can't judge the strength of an organization by whether or not a god-character can defeat it. Otherwise, every faction in Fallout would be a "weak" faction.

I wiped out every single Legionary in Fortification Hill including Ceasar with little trouble. Does that make the Legion a "weak" faction? I killed everyone in the Citadel (yes including the "essentials" after I disabled their "essential" status) and in Broken Steel I blew it up with a Orbital Stike, Does that make the CWBOS a weak faction"?

But don't you think after being totally wiped out twice... maybe they are just a tad bit weak?

Unfortunately the society which the Enclave created to ensure social stability (after seeign what happened at some of the Vaults) demanded the need for a few hate figures. As I said, once the lie becomes universally accepted it eclispses the original truth/

th LW totally could have made it back int o prokect purity.

ropes, shovels, catapults, shooting the transpfrmers ont he sides of the shields..
they just wanted liverty prime to be in the scneario.. it doesnt mean it would be impossible.

ive always take issue with not being able to shoot the transformers ont he sides of the shield generators

No?

In Fallout 2 they were a force to be feared, the hardest enemies to fight by far. You couldn't just burst into the Oil Rig and start shooting them up, you'd be murdered in seconds.

Lore-wise, the Chosen One only was able to defeat them by basically sneaking and activating a self-destruct mechanism. I wouldn't call that being "weak" on their part.

In Fallout 3, they were weak enemies to fight, but so was everything else. Lore-wise, like I said, without the deus-ex machina Liberty Prime ( and being backed up by the Brotherhood) the LW wouldn't have stood a chance, if nothing else than because he coudn't have gotten into the Purifier.

Doesn't the fact that they were able to bounce back each time after their 2 defeats, and that they may still be around in some form even now, point to the concept that they aren't a weak faction?

Alright. fine. They were tough. But did that stop them from being losing both games..

I wouldn't mind if they played a small role in the next game. I just don't want to [censored] another president or anything.

Talking about real world politics isn't allowed, comparing 1984 to the Fallout 2 Enclave is perfectly valid (hell 1984 is even referenced in Vault City).

The Fallout 2 Enclave live an isolated life aboard an Oil Rig, everyone believes in the Project and the mission which has been enforced through decades of propaganda, even the President put's his own life behind the Project (hell he laughts at you as he tells you that his guards have orders to shoot through him as opposed to use him as a barganing chip). In such a society they need people to hate (the Enclave Patrolmen are good evidence of what I am talking about) something and believe in something collectively. For 150 years almost nobody, outside of military personnel, left the Oil Rig, for generations people just existed on their; an Orwellian society fits perfectly.

Because the Enclave has air superiority, artillery and multiple force field barriers already establish as well as superior equipment for ground troops; what does the BoS have that could possibly match that?

I would contest them not knowing, how can an Oil Tanker dock and nobody notice; the whole point of using it was so that the Oil Tanker wouldn't activate the Poseidon guns because it broadcasted a friendly IFF, that means somewhere in the Oil Rig something detected it was friendly and let it past; the Rig already being crammed with all that stuff (and it had to masquarade as a Rig pre-war too) I can't imagine that it was in some forgotten room, especially when the Enclave acknowledged the Tanker as a security risk and took multiple steps to ensure that it could not be activated.

Did the Navarro Base Commander, who tells you that your Duty Officer must contact him, never wonder why he got no official confirmation that the Tanker FOB (for the navigational system) was being collected?

I think that it was necessary to create such a society to survive the isolation, the pre-war Enclave worked so hard to ensure that they and their families survived just so that 2nd or 3rd generation Oil Riggers could destroy everything? The regime was self-imposed, by Richardson's time, whilst he was aware of propaganda he wasn't immune from it and believed it as fanatically as everyone else. Once everyone is dead and they begin recolonising the mainland, the need for such a society doesn't exist and it will be swiftly changed. It's not like Richardson or some other leaders would be loathed to give up such power because they don't realise that it exists, it's just their way of life, they will retake the Earth for democracy and freedom.

That propaganda and hate for others is not good though and thats what drove them to make the extreme decisions of trying to murder the Wasteland's population.

In their world there is only Enclave and no one else, Very reminiscent of modern day Americans who are un-cultured and believe their way is the only way.

That propaganda kept them together and united; it was one or the other, and the pre-war Enclave weren't the nicest of fellows.

This is why the Enclave were not meant to take over the wastes because they were too extreme. If I know right wing extremists well, they would not have accepted anything different then the old ways. Sometimes people have to change and evolve to meet up with the modern world.

Man, I have to stop. I'm getting too political. Can you tell which side of the political spectrum I come from :P

tell me if it wasnt for the devs code saying "this isnt a destructable item" that people wouldnt be able to shoot those transformers. or dig underneath them. or catapult mini-nukes or flamiming bags of poo. you also have tot hink that for that water that they want ontrol of (for whatever purpose) has to come out of the there

you dont even need to take it to that level. i am talking just physical gaurds on the rig alone..
how you gonna let a baot pull up to your base?

furthermore how do you have a self destruct mechanism that can be so easily accessed?
no, forget that even.. why do you have a self destruct mechanism at all?
these people want to rekindle the fire of human existance, and you cant even at least seal the doorway that leads to the self destruct mechanism?

Yeah I agree, you could just walk around climb around them and lay some explosives or yeah just fire a missile. But by that logic the Lone Wanderer wouldn't just be able to pop a stim and get his hitpoints back. I get that your making jibes against F3 (at least I hope you are) but short of climbing around the ones on the bridge you aren't going to get around them in a hurry and whilst your climbing your also a sitting duck for Enclave snipers with Gauss Rifles, assuming real logical applies.

Exactly, you'd think that they'd have gaurds everywhere just to give the bastards something to do.

It's not self-desruct, the Chosen One exploits a flaw in the reactor cooling system which had been addressed but no fixed.
