The end of PC gaming?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 9:55 am

Have we seen the end of PC gaming? According to the sales figures the PC sales are only 14% of the total. Do you think they will make a major change to a game that made them millions b/c 14% of the user's are unhappy? Would you in their shoes?

Is PC gaming is a dead market? Aside from Simulations and RTS's will we only see Xbox ports from here on out?

Just wish i hadn't got a pair of 500 series Nvidia cards... there's $500 well spent.

14% of retail sales. At least half (maybe even more?) of the PC version will be sold digitally, and those aren't recorded.

PC gaming won't die, it will get slow though (it is actually slow lol)
Console's are just easier to pick up and play, no need to upgrade or deal with drivers/etc...
Still I like my FPSs on PCs and will always buy them for the PC, unless it is console specific like Killzone or Resistance :)

I still haven't seen a great RTS implementation on a console.

Apparently PC gaming has been on the increase in recent years, however with all these console ports being released recently, I wouldn't be suprised if PC gaming goes downhill, that's unless a game like Battlefield 3 saves it. We don't really need to worry much about MMO's and RTS's as they are very much PC supportive, even though a few RTS's are being dumbed down for console. However FPS's are a big issue as they're probably the most common type of game on console.

I just cannot understand why you would want to play a FPS with a controller... the aiming is horribly stupid!

Okay, you all are idiots. Either that, or this thread PROVES that there are a lot of young gamers (WHO AREN'T **** 17+ -_-). Anyways, the answer is NO. If you answered anything else, you're an idiot.

People have been asking if PC gaming has been dying SINCE THE **** 90s. The 90s!! And FYI, since then it's been on the RISE. So stop making pointless threads like this. Plus this is **** off topic too.

I imagine that PC gaming will get bigger in the coming years.

Consoles are noticeably falling behind, and it's biggest franchise "Call Of Duty" is losing its touch and Halo has finished on 360. (From what I heard)

Now that PC has Free2Play and Cloud Gaming, it makes PC gaming much cheaper for ones who cannot afford the luxury of TRUE PC GAMING. Not the mention that World Of Warcraft is the biggest game ever and its PC exclusive.

PC gaming was never dying, but the player count did reduce due to the consoles, but when PC has Farmville (sad, I know) and others in the market, then it obviously is still going to dominate!

This is just a conversation, no need to get so bent of out shape...

For the record i'm 30 and have been playing PC games sence Wing Commander/wolfenstine. And I have to agree that PC gaming might be on the rise but I think this is due to the massive number of MMO's on the market. I would bet that FPS gaming on PC has been on the delcine in the past few years and will continue to fall.

Pc is not dying

Gaming in general is dying
or even better... Platform Exclusivity is dying

REASON: devs today are not gamers, they are businessmen = MONEY

By its title, the topic may speaking in general, but the poll is specific to FPS titles. I think that ports is going to become the norm for FPSs.

If you want to open it up to the rest of PC gaming, WoW isn't the biggest, The Sims is.

The numbers are probably outdated by more than a couple quarters, but the point is that PC gaming isn't dead or dying, and PC FPS games aren't going away. As we move forward, they're just more and more likely to be multiplatform. With the dominance of consoles--whether real, or imagined by the industry and the gaming community--chances are that the PC platform won't be the lead development platform in such cases.

I think your right. While the market may not die, it will change as we know it. I don't think we will be seeing very many high budget FPS games exclusive for PC or even developed first for PC. Consoles just reach too many people. Why build a $1500 gaming rig when you can pay $300 for a console and get the same game (often better as many are designed for console first). And as a developer why would you spend money to design a game for PC when you know the Console version will make a ton of money and reach a larger audience, and then they can port it to PC?

This thread is dying. PC gaming is alive and well. Considering the piracy/torrenting that is going on PC is tough platform, high quality games with a fantastic singleplayer/multiplayer portion such as Crysis 2 need to have support, I hope the majority on this forum have given Crytek the support.
