The Ending (NCR)

Post » Tue Oct 05, 2010 4:02 am

Hello everyone! I wanted to write this because if you are like me where you work a lot then your time is limited (and the game is long). It's taken me a little over 8 days to get to level 27. I am hoping that by writing this then people will make the choices you want to happen. To start I allied myself with NCR and defense of the dam (seems like all other factions want to blow it up). Most of the side quests and Helper quests effect how the game ends and what type of ending you get depending on what faction you allied with (when you complete the quests). Keep in mind that most of these side quests require a certain skill level. I will do my best to alert you to the skill required. Please refer to the Prima Games, Fallout New Vegas Strategy guide for details on how other factions and how each choice effects the End (and what happens).

Quests that effect the End:

-All Helpers. Note that the Helper Veronica from Trading Post 188 her quest is Still in the Dark. Take her with you when helping the BoS. She has one other Quest I Could Make You Care

-Heartache by the Number (Helper Rose of Sharon Cassidy)(NCR Quest, Mojave Outpost)

-I Forgot to Remember To Forget (Helper Boone from Novac)(NCR/Novac quest)

-Lily and Leo (Helper Lily from Jacobstown)

-ED-E My Love (Helper ED-E from Primm)

-Helper Arcade Gammon is confusing. I only completed one quest with him called For Auld Lang Syne. In my dialogue I made him join the Remnants. This requires that you get "points" with Gammon for it to pop up. I had him join me and we visited The Fort and the Crashed Vertibird. He will talk to you when you visit one of the places that triggers the points. How you talk to him effects the outcome from what I can tell.

-Nothin But a Hound Dog (Helper Rex)

-Crazy, Crazy, Crazy (Super Mutants, Black Mountains)(Note I am including Raul who you find there)

-Jacobstown and the cure (get this by speaking with the human doctor). I remember that I helped the town kill the nightstalkers in the quest Guess Who I Saw today

-Primm and who you pick for a Sheriff (My Kind of Town)

-Come Fly With Me (Friendly Ghouls deep inside the REPCONN Test facility)

-Why Can't We Be Friends? (Powder Gangers quest, Vault 19)

-G.I Blues (Freeside, The Kings)

-Still in the Dark (Hidden Valley, BoS Quest)

-Oh My Papa quest (Great Kahn Quest, Red Rock Canyon)

-Volare (Boomers Quest, Nellis AFB)

-Three-Card Bounty (NCR Quest, Camp Mcarran)

-Return to Sender (NCR Quest, Camp No Hope)

-Flags of Our Foul-Ups (NCR Quest, Camp Golf)

Note that a lot of these quests the skill required is Optional. There are other ways to go about the quest. I don't have any information on Lily or Boone's Free Quests. Because they are not a Side Quest they don't register. I never got the quests due to bugs.

In Heartache By The Number it has a part of the quest where you can choose to use a 50 Barter, a 75 Barter, Speech 50 or Speech 75. One of the options puts you in a drinking contest with Sharon Rose of Cassidy and you will need 12 Whiskeys for this (and Med-X lol... jk not being serious).

ED-E My Love has two skill checks and one part option. There is a Science 55 and a Repair 35 or a 65 Repair check. Or you can use 3 Scrap Metal, 2 Senson Modules and 1 Spare Electronics.

Nothin But A Hound Dog has 3 options. If you choose to ask Old Lady Gibson for the part you can use 70+ Barter to get it and she pays 571 Caps.

In For Auld Lang Style there is only one check I can see of. To convince Orion to stay and fight with the Remnants takes 80 Speech.

For Crazy, Crazy, Crazy there is an unknown level of Speech required to ask Neil for help. There is a 75 Lockpick check to unlock the gates to get around some of the Mutants. There is a 50 Lockpick check to open some of the trunks along the way (to get a minigun and ammo sometimes plus caps). There is a 50 repair check to repair the robot (which makes Tabitha happy and she leaves plus gives you her key). Or you can try hacking Very Hard Terminals to get to Raul.

For the quest Still In The Dark it has a 100 Lockpick check. This is if you don't bring Veronica with you. If you bring Veronica with you she gets on the intercom and makes the BoS open up. If you don't you can pick the door and begin the quest as an intruder rather than a friend. This only results in a detour and adds a quest before you can start.

For the Volare quest the skills effect the fame with the Boomers. It is possible to skip some of the Side Quests and turn in Missles or Scrap metal for fame. For Pearl at the beginning is 20 speech. When talking with Pete at the Museum each speech option that involves a skill gains you fame. There is a 40 explosives check, 35 science, unknown Survival, Repair 40, and two Speech checks (40 and 55). There is a Snow Globe in the Museum. For Argyll the doctor this requires medicine. To say you can heal his patients takes 40 Medicine. Patient #1 is 40 Medicine, #2 is 50 Medicine, and #3 is 60 Medicine. Jack's Side Quest Young Hearts has a 35 Speech Check to obtain the quest. For later on in the quest you can use 75 Speech or a 65 Barter check.

When speaking to Jack for the rebreather (optional part of getting the B-29 out of the lake) you can give him a pressure cooker or you can use 45 Science and make a rebreather from corn silk, a rubber hose, and removable adhesive. Talking to loyal about the B-29 being out of the lake you can use 7 Intelligence (what for I don't know). Note that the Rebreather stays with you after the quest and is great for exploring the submerged Vaults.

For Jacobstown when talking to the Doctor about the Cure it has I think it was a 90 science check. I know it was the highest I ever saw.

In My Kind Of Town when you attack the people in the Hotel you can ask Deputy Beagle to help you with a 25 Speech Check. This however adds a detour to the quest. To Repair the Primm Slimm Robot it will take 35 Science. To have NCR militarize it you will need Barter 50. Or you can help Ranger Jackson I think it is. He asks you to shoot up some ants. Complete that come back and said you helped and they send troops. To have Meyers take over you will have a 45 Speech Check or you can pay with 200 caps.

Come Fly With me the only check you have is if you sabotage the rockets which is a 50 speech check . With this quest if you sabotage the rocket you will need 3 Sugar Bombs. If you don't and help get the parts you will need about 510 caps to complete.

In Why Can't We Be Friends? There is two paths. Path Two does not require anything. Path one you start by talking to the Overseer Philip Lem instead of Samuel Cook. In this you will need Science 40 to get started. Then there is a 60 Explosives Check and you will need 5 units of C-4 to blow up the caves. Then there is a 40 speech check to end the quest and have them join the Great Kahns. Or you can have them turn themselves into the NCR. Keep in mind choosing the option to blow up the Vault (Explosives 55) results in a failed quest. This effects the end.

In G.I Blues when you deal with the Body Guard Orris Part you can use 6 Intelligence or 30 Medicine. Failure to pass will require you to pay for the body guard again. This time without caps from The King. If you pass then you can use 51 Barter to Extort him or you can kill him. If you don't have the password for the train station you can use 30 Speech. To get the password do the optional "talk to julie farkas to see if the followers know anything". Then you do the optional "talk to major elizabeth kieran" and mention julie farkas if she doesn't help. Then you go to the squatter camp and answer three questions correctly:

Q: Who was the most popular president in NCR History? A: Tandi

Q: What Was the original name of the NCR Capital? A: Shady Sands

Q: What animal is on the NCR's Flag? A: A Two-Headed Bear

Then later on Pacer will stop you from informing The King. You can get more caps from his extortion with a 50 Barter Check. The best way to do this in my opinion though is inform The King anyways. This will result in him owing you a favor which you can use to get a Passport into The Strip. Or you can use it to have his men stop shooting at the NCR in Freeside. To purchase your way into The Strip is 2,000 caps btw.

In Oh My Papa Quest there is two paths as usual. The assasination path takes a Lockpick skill of 75 to open the rear door I think. The book mentions 50 but, that sounds way off to me. The assasination quest requires a silenced weapon and that you kill him before he gets a shot off. If you don't the other Kahn's in the building will hear it and open fire resulting in infamy. The Non Assasination route will take a Speech Check of 25 with Jack. Or you can speak to Diane and rescue Anders at Cottonwood Grove. There is a 50 Lockpick check to open the locker and steal Karl's Ledger. Or you can talk to Karl with a 25 Speech Check. Then as you talk to him more you will need 50 Speech, and then 75.

In Return To Sender there is only one check I can see of and it's Speech 30+. This is if you ask Lenk about what happened with her and the Omertas. There is also Negative Karma or Good Karma right after. For Good tell Lenk She'll get back at the Legion. For Bad tell Lenk The Rangers shouldn't of taken her back.

In Flags Of Our Foul-Ups you can use one of three checks to complete 3/4 possible paths. There is a 40 Speech check to get them to be nice. For hacking the computers is 50 science. This path is useless. It only results in Negative Karma and NCR Infamy! The last path has 6 checks for 6 different dialogues. This takes 25 Guns, 35 Guns, 45 Guns, 25 Explosives, 35 Explosives, and 45 explosives.

Dang that was long! Not only to read but, type it and double check myself in the strategy guide! If I missed anything please feel free to correct me. If there is information you wish to share to better help with these quests please free to do so. Please sticky this or post every now and then to keep this where people can see. I am not typing this again! Thank you for reading (if you did) or for posting.

Yeah this is just the NCR Line. It's about as long as some of the others. I think it's shorter than two of the others. I never looked into that. As for why did the NCR kick out the Followers? My best guess is they were researching something they didn't want them to. I know with the ED-E quest (when it's not bugged) that they upgrade it's Laser. If not maybe it's because of the Brotherhood of Steel stuff. Vidya mentions them. I don't remember if it was a good or bad thing. I know that people were paranoid with the group as they were unsure of their motives.
