The Engine!

Post » Sun Dec 26, 2010 5:51 pm

Well, don′t remember where i read that. But the information was that the Skyrim graphics will look like "Call of Juarez 2". So, it make us think that the Skyrim will have a customized version of the Chrome Engine 4:

And it really make sense! Take a look in the second youtube link to know the good work on the fire behavior in this engine! And having dragons in this game, we will need a good fire behavior to spread over an intire town.

So... Is the Chrome Engine 4 the new engine behind Skyrim? Any thoughts?

yeh it was an engine built by bethesda, also id doesn't matter what a game looks like, because the different objects can change that, what really matters is the quality, unless it has a different form of lighting like HDR

I would love to learn more about the engine heck maybe a name for the engine. Until I get a name I'm calling it the "Todd Engine Mark 5". :trophy:

They've always described their engines as "in-house" creations, and they've been in-house tweaks of Gamebryo. I'm convinced that it's not Gamebryo this time around, and I'm PRETTY sure it's not just a rebuilt version of another existing engine, but I guess that possibility should remain open until they give us something completely concrete, like a name for said engine.

If you've seen the mountains smothered with fog inside the GI magazine, you'd know that the engine can do graphics well.

I'll have to wait until tomorrow when they say the article will be in stores.

The real question is; What third party renderer did they use? My money is on http://www.emergent.net/en/Gamebryo-LightSpeed/.

I'm still thinking they had some people from ID Software help them with the engine. Not saying its the ID Tech engine, but it will have some ID tech in it.

Wait a second, couldn't it be based on id Tech 5-engine or a branch here off? id Software is a sister company to Bethesda Softworks, soooo? And the engine will run on both PC, PlatStation 3 and Xbox 360. :ninja:

On a related note: :whisper:

Hollenshead's opinion now is that Tech 5 is a "competitive advantage and we want to keep it within games we publish -- not necessarily exclusively to id or id titles, but if you're going to make a game with id Tech 5 then it needs to be published by Bethesda, which I think is a fair thing."

Man, that would be so awesome! *faints*

Todd already put that speculation to rest.

Todd Howard: Not really. Again, it's what the developer is comfortable with. We wouldn't want to force technology on somebody. Even internally, there's no mandate for anyone internally to use id Tech 5. I'm using our stuff.
