The Escapist's 2010 Developer Showdown

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 2:21 am

I'm hoping that the communities of blizzard and bioware and other developers, will standing together against zynga, if bioware becomes the last hope.

So it looks like it's going to be Zynga vs BioWare in the finals. The hard-core gaming community better pull together and bring down this colossus.

A last resort.

Sickening. :shakehead:

It would be f'ing awesome if BioWare managed to pull ahead and beat them in the finals. Not just because I love BioWare, but because it would be a victory for all gamers if Zynga and their army of clueless moms were defeated.

Forget [censored], they probably delight in seeing us suffer. Instead we should contact every game forum who would vote against zynga and stop this atrocity.

Zynga is telling people to vote for them via a huge notification on their forums:

http://forums.zynga.com/index.php

You can't go anywhere on the forum without seeing that huge notification!

You know, this whole thing really makes me want to boycott their games... too bad they don't make anything but little flash games on facebook.

It's so sad. Oh well, hopefully the twitter votes help us beat them.

Do you people realize what you are saying? You have blown this completely and utterly out of any semblance of proportion!

You make this sound like freakin' World War III, it's a competition of which developer is most popular, for crying out loud!

Clearly Zynga is more popular than its competitors, there is nothing more to it, and sure we already knew that the casual crowd of non-gamers vastly outnumbered the ones who sit in front of personally assembled supercomputers with Linux installed and playing a heavily modded version of Oblivion.

Well, for more than 17,000 people, this is no longer a popularity contest, it's a full blown war between core gamers and facebook gamers.

Nobody in this topic is blowing this out of proportion. We're just stunned at how Zynga is winning everything, nobody is really butthurt.

Is it blowing it out of proportion to want your favorite developers to beat this non-game developer?

They'll obviously get past Valve, but if they actually beat Bioware... the Universe will a splode.

Tun dun duuuuun.

Yeah I'm too lazy to make a seriously overly dramatic post. I'll just shut up.

We're sorry but the current forum traffic is overloading the thread display hamsters. Your posts and votes will still be recorded, but may not be immediately visible. Please do not spam the thread in an effort to view it, it will only make things slower. In the meantime, consider the walrus.

EDIT: Lord, it's not like Zynga is some kind of evil crime syndicate. It's a legitimate company, it just happens to make free games, which therefore means that many more people are able to play them. It's not really fair (for the purposes of this competition), but that's the escapist's fault, not theirs. Let's all calm down a little bit and remember that they are both just companies.

In all likelihood, Zynga will win. I bet the people at the Escapists are pretty happy, after all, not only do they get free advertising from the developers, they get it from everyone talking about how Zynga is 'stealing' the contest.

Valve is actually somehow catching up. If a lot of people voted via Twitter, then Valve might win.

Well after hours of the topic not loading, it's finally working again and now I can see that Valve has really narrowed the gap. There's only a 335 vote gap now! If there aren't any more zerg rushes from Zynga, and the gap stays small, Valve may just win with all of the twitter votes they've gotten.
