The Execution

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:04 pm

I was just watching the Todd Howard interview and I had a thought when Todd refused to talk about how we will be executed. It seemed a little odd that having revealed we will start the game with our execution that he wouldn't say how this would happen as it wouldn't really spoil that much more to know if we were to be beheaded, hung etc.
Unless it was a big part of the plot, which made me think what if the execution is us being 'sacrificed' to a dragon!? This would make sense for plot and tutorial purposes and could be a pretty cool way to enter the world of Skyrim.
What do you think of this idea? How do you think it will start and how would you like it to start?

Look for concept art of the executioner.

He's got a big damn axe.

I really don't thing this is going to be that big of a deal in this game. Last time you espcaped the prision when the Emperor was escaping for his life; This time I presume you will escape from your execution when a Dragon devastates the settlement. ( Just Guessing but this would be the most obvious start )

"Any last words?" asks the priest.
The savage makes an angry face. "Curse you all! I`m going to crawl back from Hell and slaughter every one of you!"
*A large axe falls.*
*Chop*
*Head rolls on the floor*

The end!

Or is it?

I think the person in front of you gets beheaded, then out of nowhere you hear a Dragon, the Dragon swoops down and starts attacking everyone at the execution, but you make an escape.. Perhaps there is three people getting executed, and the other guy is Esbern, and he helps you escape the onslaught caused by the Dragon.. Perhaps...lol But I cannot see Bethesda showing the ending at the beginning, as TES has never actually had a end, it just carries on.

Haha this. :P

Hopefully we'll get to see him lop a few heads off before we're rescued by Esbern.

First off, there are probably people out there who don't know how the game begins and don't want to know. So the topic is a bit of a spoiler to them.

Second, it would be awesome if Bethesda included the ability to give generic lines of dialogue to whoever escorts you, like "I didn't do it!" and such. Flesh our your character's backstory through dialogue.

Meh, it's just gonna be a scene copied from the movie classic Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves. An executioner is about to chop his neck when an arrow hits him in the heart.

Or a dragon lands right ontop of him and then proceeds to charcoal the crowd.

While everyone seems convinced it's going to be a beheading, I would think it'd be a hanging. Generally more efficient and less difficult to clean up afterwards! :foodndrink:

True, but on the flipside hanging often took longer than a beheading as unlike a beheading the victim wasn't killed instantly, often taking several minutes for the victim to finally die.

Also, a beheading just seems to fit the Nords better.

Hangings are more of a crowd-friendly sport. You know, everyone bet on how long it takes until his feet stop twitching!

He just carries that around to look the part. Definitely a hanging. Hangings are great shows for the whole family, whereas beheadings are actually pretty grim. All in all, a hanging would please the peasant folk, and happy peasants aren't revolting.

Executions...

Great social events, where all the neighbors can gather with their picnic lunches, bringing along mum, and the kids for a great show!

Perhaps it will be a double header.

I see what you did there.

But yeah, "civilized" humans were sick, sick creatures from the early 1900s backwards, weren't they?

I prefer a good ol' hanging instead, but ahwell......

Or we could get out the catapult for more intersting results, if they survive they get off scott free.

Personally, I would be amused to be chained to a chunk of ice, and then pushed off the shore, waiting to be eaten by a dragon. Generic executions are so boring and this is a fantasy world... we could come up with something more creative... don't you think?
