The Fallen - Bug. Odahviing will not land or fly near Dragon

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:13 am

Hello,
I've spent a lot of time on my Nord - Sword and Board character. He's now level 42 and at the point where he's gotten Dragonrend and Call Odahviing.

My problem:
During "The Fallen" main quest, I run out to the porch to summon Odahviing (in Dragonsreach), I've made sure the Jarl of Whiterun is out there with me (I've heard this can cause issues) and I use the Call Dragon shout. Once I've done this, Odahviing keeps respawning directly above Dragonsreach, but he just flies off in the distance. I've hit him with Dragonrend 10 times, but he just keeps respawning above Dragonsreach and flies off into the horizon.

Can anyone help? Both my autosaves and quicksaves have been reloaded, but every time I attempt this portion of "The Fallen" this Odahviing bug occurs.

There is no going back for this nord. He's level 42 and I don't have the mental fortitude to go through the game again, just to get to this point.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Did you tell the Jarl you are ready? After he goes to the balcony area?

UESP Wiki:
Spoiler
"Go to Dragonsreach to prepare and spring the trap with the help of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Balgruuf_the_Greater or http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Vignar_Gray-Mane, depending on the current allegiance of Whiterun. The area you need to go is located behind the throne room and up the stairs (you can just follow the Jarl). Tell the Jarl you're ready, then use the Call Dragon shout by holding it down for a moment. Odahviing will appear after a short delay and attack, being curious to test your power. Fight him, and draw him closer to the doors you came in through using the shout Dragonrend. Climb the stairs that start near the doors, or simply back up towards the rear of the room, and a large wooden yoke will drop down and snap around his neck, holding him in place."

I had a similar prob, only he would not come. It was because I was not holding the shout key down long enough. Your prob sounds diff.

Thanks for the reply, but yes. I've spoken with Jarl Vignar Gray-Mane, he says he's ready, out on the Dragonsreach porch. I use the Call Dragon Shout, and Odahviing does appear, but he keeps flying away from Dragonsreach. Once he flies off too far into the horizon, he simply respawns directly above Dragonsreach and flies in a random direction away from the Porch. Straight line, never turns.

I've actually hit him with Dragonrend multiple times while he flies away. The graphic does occur, and he gets all blue-ish, but he doesn't alter course at all. He seems to shrug off the Dragonrend and keeps flying away from me.

I thought I'd try and help anyone else who's had this problem...

It's listed under the quest under UESP bugs: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Fallen#Bugs

After I summoned him, I needed to enter Dragonsreach, wait 20 hours, then return. He will be attacking the guards on the porch and capture-able.

Many thanks,
